How long does it take to get your Washington ESD unemployment debit card in the mail?
Just got approved for unemployment benefits last week after waiting through adjudication for almost a month. My weekly claim finally went through and shows paid on my account, but I still haven't received my debit card in the mail yet. It's been 8 days since my first payment was issued. Does anyone know how long Washington ESD takes to mail out the unemployment debit cards? I'm getting worried something went wrong since I need to pay rent soon.

Usually takes 7-10 business days from when your first payment is issued. Make sure your address is correct in your Washington ESD account - that's the most common reason for delays.

•I double checked my address and it's right. Guess I just need to be more patient. Thanks!

•mine took exactly 9 business days last year, so you're probably right on schedule

The debit card comes from Bank of America, not Washington ESD directly. Sometimes it takes up to 2 weeks depending on mail delays. You can call Washington ESD to verify they have the right address on file.

•Good to know it comes from Bank of America. Should I be looking for mail from them specifically?

•Yes, it'll be in a plain white envelope from Bank of America Prepaid Services. Don't throw it away thinking it's junk mail!

I've been trying to call Washington ESD for 3 days straight to check on my card status but can never get through. Anyone else having this problem? The phone just rings and rings or I get a busy signal.

•Yeah the phone lines are always swamped. I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an Washington ESD agent in like 20 minutes. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•Never heard of that before. Does it actually work or is it some kind of scam?

•No it's legit, I was skeptical too but it really worked. Way better than spending hours on hold.

My card took 12 days to arrive and I was freaking out too. Once you get it you have to activate it online or by phone before you can use it.

•Good tip about activation. How long does that take?

Henry Delgado
•The activation is instant if you do it online. Just go to the Bank of America prepaid website.

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO SLOW WITH EVERYTHING!!! I'm still waiting on my adjudication from 6 weeks ago and you guys are complaining about debit cards taking 8 days???

•That's rough about your adjudication. Have you tried contacting them about the delay?

Pro tip: once you get your card, you can check your balance and transaction history on the Bank of America prepaid website or app. Don't rely on Washington ESD's website for payment info - it's not always updated quickly.

•This is so true. The Bank of America site shows my payments way before they show up on the Washington ESD portal.

•Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to download the app once I get my card.

Mine got sent to my old address even though I updated it with Washington ESD. Had to fill out a form to get a replacement card sent to the right address. That added another 2 weeks to the process.

Madison Tipne
•Oh no! How do you request a replacement card if that happens?

Jibriel Kohn
•You have to call Bank of America prepaid customer service, not Washington ESD. They can rush a replacement for free if it was mailed to the wrong address.

•Good info. The Bank of America number is on their prepaid website if anyone needs it.

Does anyone know if you can get direct deposit instead of the debit card? I hate having to use those prepaid cards.

Kyle Wallace
•Yes, you can set up direct deposit in your Washington ESD account under payment options. Takes 1-2 weeks to take effect though.

•Sweet, thanks! I'll set that up right now.

I'm on week 3 of waiting for my card. Should I be worried? My payments show as issued but still no card.

•After 3 weeks you should definitely call Bank of America to see if there's an issue. That's way longer than normal.

•Yeah or use that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier to get through to Washington ESD and make sure they have the right address on file.

The debit card fees are annoying but at least it's free to withdraw from Bank of America ATMs. Just avoid using it at other ATMs if you can.

Madison Tipne
•Good to know about the ATM fees. Are there other fees I should watch out for?
0 coins
James Johnson
•Yeah there's a fee for checking your balance at non-BOA ATMs and for getting paper statements. The fee schedule is on their website.

I remember being so anxious waiting for mine too. The first unemployment payment feels like it takes forever to actually get in your hands, but once the system is set up it's pretty smooth.

•That's reassuring. This whole unemployment process has been so stressful.

•It gets easier once you get into the routine of filing your weekly claims. Hang in there!

Why can't Washington ESD just do direct deposit automatically like normal employers? This debit card system seems so outdated.
0 coins
Kyle Wallace
•They probably have a contract with Bank of America that makes them money. Plus not everyone has a bank account to receive direct deposit.

Emma Bianchi
•Makes sense from their perspective I guess, just inconvenient for us.

Update: Just got my card today on day 10! Thanks everyone for the reassurance. Now to figure out how to activate it.

been waiting 2 weeks now... starting to think mine got lost. anyone know how to track if it was actually mailed out?

Kyle Wallace
•Call Bank of America prepaid customer service. They can tell you when it was mailed and help you get a replacement if needed.

Gianni Serpent
•Or if you need to talk to Washington ESD about it, definitely try Claimyr. So much easier than trying to get through on your own.

My card came damaged and wouldn't work at ATMs. Bank of America sent a replacement pretty quickly though, only took 5 days.

For anyone still waiting - check with your local post office too. Sometimes mail gets held up there and they can help track it down.

Just want to say this thread was super helpful when I was waiting for mine last month. The 7-10 day timeline is pretty accurate in my experience.

Madison Tipne
•Glad it helped! Hopefully my experience can help the next person who's waiting too.

One more thing - make sure you keep your debit card info secure. There have been some scams targeting unemployment recipients lately.
0 coins
Madison Tipne
•Thanks for the warning. What kind of scams should I watch out for?
0 coins
Isabella Russo
•Mostly fake texts or emails asking for your card info. Washington ESD or Bank of America will never ask for that stuff over text or email.
