Washington ESD unemployment card - where is my card supposed to be delivered?
I got approved for unemployment benefits three weeks ago but I still haven't received my unemployment debit card in the mail. My Washington ESD account shows my claim is active and I've been filing my weekly claims, but without the card I can't access any of my benefits. Does anyone know how long it takes for the card to arrive? I'm starting to worry it got lost in the mail or sent to the wrong address.

Usually takes 7-10 business days from when your claim gets approved. Did you double check your mailing address in your Washington ESD account?

•Yeah I checked and it's correct. Maybe I should call Washington ESD to see what's going on?

•Good luck getting through on the phone. I tried calling for two weeks straight and could never get past the busy signal.

The debit card comes from KeyBank, not directly from Washington ESD. Sometimes there's an extra delay if KeyBank has issues processing the cards. You should also check if your mailbox is secure - these cards sometimes get stolen.

•Oh I didn't know it came from KeyBank! Should I call them instead of Washington ESD?

•You can try both. KeyBank handles the card delivery but Washington ESD has to authorize it first.

I had the same problem last month and it was so frustrating trying to reach anyone at Washington ESD about it. I finally used this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual person. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Got my card issue resolved in one call after using them.

•Never heard of Claimyr before. Is it legit? I'm worried about giving my info to random services.

•Yeah it's totally legit. They just help you get through the phone system faster. Was worth it for me since I was going crazy trying to call on my own.

•I used Claimyr too when my benefits got stuck in adjudication. They're not scammy at all, just a tool to help with the phone system.

THREE WEEKS?? That's ridiculous! The whole Washington ESD system is so broken. I've been waiting for my card for over a month and nobody can tell me what's happening.

•Over a month?! That's insane. Have you tried going to a WorkSource office in person?
0 coins
Zara Khan
•Yeah I went to WorkSource and they said they can't help with card issues, I have to call Washington ESD directly. It's like they designed this system to make us give up.

•What did you end up doing? Did you eventually get it?

•had to request a replacement card through KeyBank website. took another 2 weeks but finally got it

Pro tip: You can actually request a replacement card online through KeyBank's website if it's been more than 2 weeks. Go to their unemployment benefits card section and follow the replacement process. Much faster than trying to call Washington ESD.

•This is really helpful! I didn't know I could do that. Do I need any special info from Washington ESD first?

Diego Fernández
•Just your SSN and the info from your Washington ESD account. Make sure your address is updated in both systems before requesting the replacement.

Also make sure you're checking your mail every day. My neighbor got their unemployment card delivered to my mailbox by mistake. Mail carriers sometimes mess up addresses.

•Good point. I'll check with my neighbors too just in case.

The card situation is the worst part of the whole unemployment process. Even when you get approved, you still have to wait weeks just to access your money. How are people supposed to pay rent and bills?
0 coins
Omar Farouk
•Exactly! I'm already behind on everything because I've been out of work. This delay is making everything worse.

•The system is designed to wear us down. They probably hope we'll just give up and stop claiming benefits.

•I get the frustration but there are legitimate security reasons for the card process. Identity theft is a huge problem with unemployment benefits.

Just want to follow up - definitely try Claimyr if you need to talk to Washington ESD quickly. I was skeptical at first but it really worked. Way better than spending hours on hold or getting hung up on.

•I'm definitely going to try it. This whole situation is stressing me out so much.

•How much does Claimyr cost? I'm already broke from being unemployed lol

•It's really reasonable compared to the stress and time it saves. Check their website for current info.

One more thing to check - make sure Washington ESD has your current address and that it matches exactly what's on file with USPS. Sometimes even small differences like 'Street' vs 'St' can cause delivery problems.

Omar Farouk
•I'll double check that. I did move about 6 months ago so maybe there's a mismatch somewhere.

Sean Fitzgerald
•Yeah definitely update it in your Washington ESD account if needed. You can usually do that online through SecureAccess Washington.

This brings back memories of when I was on unemployment 5 years ago. The card system was a mess then too. Some things never change with Washington ESD.

Omar Farouk
•Did you have the same kind of delays back then?

Nia Williams
•Yep, waited almost a month for my card. Eventually had to go through the replacement process just like people are suggesting now.

Quick update for anyone reading this thread later - Washington ESD has been having more card delivery issues lately due to increased claim volume. If you're waiting for a card, don't panic right away. But if it's been more than 2 weeks, definitely start the replacement process.

Omar Farouk
•Thanks for the update! I feel a bit better knowing it's not just me having this problem.

•Increased claim volume from what? I thought unemployment was supposed to be lower now.

•There are always seasonal fluctuations plus various economic factors. The point is the system gets overwhelmed easily.

UPDATE: I tried the KeyBank replacement card process and it worked! Got my new card in 8 days. Thanks everyone for the advice. Also ended up using Claimyr to call Washington ESD just to make sure everything was set up right on their end - totally worth it to get peace of mind.

•Awesome! Glad you got it sorted out. I'm going to remember the KeyBank replacement trick if I ever need unemployment again.

Still waiting for mine after 6 weeks now. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to try the Claimyr thing and see if they can figure out what's wrong.

Omar Farouk
•6 weeks is way too long! Definitely try both the KeyBank replacement and Claimyr. Hope you get it resolved soon.

Sean Fitzgerald
•At 6 weeks you might want to check if there's a hold on your account or some other issue. That's not normal even for the slowest deliveries.

For anyone dealing with this issue - also make sure you're not accidentally throwing away mail that looks like junk. The unemployment card envelope isn't always obviously labeled and sometimes looks like credit card offers.
0 coins
Omar Farouk
•Oh wow, I never thought of that. I definitely throw away a lot of mail without looking closely.

Diego Fernández
•Good point. The KeyBank unemployment card envelope does look pretty generic. Always check your mail carefully when you're expecting the card.

Just went through this same thing last week. Card took 3 weeks to arrive but it did eventually come. Sometimes you just have to wait it out, as frustrating as that is.
0 coins
Omar Farouk
•3 weeks seems to be pretty common based on what people are saying here. At least I know what to expect now.
0 coins
Aisha Mohammed
•Yeah, unfortunately 3 weeks seems to be the new normal. The 7-10 day thing they tell you is outdated.

One last thing - if you do use Claimyr, they can also help with other Washington ESD issues like checking on adjudication status or getting answers about job search requirements. It's not just for card problems.

Omar Farouk
•Good to know! I'll definitely keep that in mind if I run into other issues.

•Yeah, getting through to Washington ESD for any reason is always a challenge. Having a reliable way to reach them is valuable.

This whole thread just shows how broken the unemployment system is. People shouldn't have to jump through this many hoops just to get their benefits.

•I agree it's frustrating, but at least there are workarounds like the KeyBank replacement process and services like Claimyr.
0 coins
Zara Khan
•Exactly! We shouldn't need workarounds for basic functions. The system should just work properly from the start.

•The system definitely has problems but it's also handling a huge volume of claims. There are always going to be glitches and delays unfortunately.
