How long after verifying identity with Washington ESD will I get paid?
I finally completed my identity verification with Washington ESD last Tuesday through their ID.me system. My claim has been stuck in adjudication for over a month and I just want to know when I can expect to actually see some money. The website still shows 'adjudication in progress' but I thought once I verified my identity it would be pretty quick? I'm behind on rent and really need to know if I should expect payment this week or if it's going to be longer. Has anyone been through this process recently?

Identity verification usually takes 3-5 business days to process through Washington ESD's system. Once they confirm your ID.me verification, your claim should move from adjudication to approval. You'll get paid for all the back weeks you've been waiting, but it might take another 2-3 days for the actual payment to hit your account.

•Thanks! So I'm looking at maybe next week before I see anything? I verified on Tuesday so hopefully by Friday?

•That sounds about right. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting. The system will backpay you for all eligible weeks once it's approved.

Mine took exactly 4 business days after ID verification. But here's the thing - I couldn't get through to anyone at Washington ESD to check on the status. The phone lines are impossible. I ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. The agent was able to confirm my verification was processed and gave me a timeline.

•Never heard of Claimyr before. Is it legit? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks with no luck.

•Yeah it's real. They basically handle the calling for you so you don't have to sit on hold for hours. Saved me a ton of time and stress.

•How much does something like that cost though? I'm already broke waiting for unemployment.

I'm in the same boat! Verified my identity 6 days ago and still nothing. The waiting is killing me. Did you have to upload additional documents or was the ID.me thing all they needed?

•Just the ID.me verification for me. They wanted my driver's license and a selfie. Pretty straightforward but nerve-wracking waiting for it to process.

•OK good, same here. Hopefully we both hear something soon. This whole process is so stressful.

Washington ESD's identity verification process has gotten much better since 2023. Before that it could take weeks. Now with ID.me integration it's usually under a week. The key is making sure your weekly claims are filed during the waiting period - that's how you get your retroactive payments once approved.

•I've been filing every week religiously. Glad to hear the process is faster now. Last year my friend waited over 3 weeks.

•Yeah the old manual review process was brutal. ID.me automated a lot of it which sped things up significantly.

whatever you do dont stop filing your weekly claims!!! i made that mistake thinking i had to wait and it messed up my whole claim. even if it says adjudication in progress you still need to file every week

Melissa Lin
•Oh wow, what happened when you stopped filing? Did you lose those weeks?

•had to appeal to get those weeks back. took another 2 months. just keep filing no matter what the status says

•This is absolutely correct. Never stop filing weekly claims during adjudication. The system needs those filings to calculate your back pay.

The identity verification part is usually the last step in adjudication. Once Washington ESD confirms your ID.me results, most claims get approved within 24-48 hours. You should see a status change from 'adjudication in progress' to 'paid' or 'processed' pretty quickly after that.

•That's encouraging! I'll keep checking my account obsessively lol

Update: Just checked and my status changed to 'paid'! Took exactly 5 business days from when I completed ID verification. Payment should hit my account tomorrow according to the usual schedule. Thanks everyone for the info and encouragement!

•Did you get back pay for all the weeks you were waiting?

Melissa Lin
Yes! Got paid for all 6 weeks I had been filing during adjudication. The lump sum was actually more than I expected because I forgot about the extra $25 weekly benefit that's still active in Washington.

Eve Freeman
•Wait, there's still an extra $25 per week? I thought all the pandemic bonuses ended.

Clarissa Flair
•That's Washington state's additional benefit, not federal. It's been in place for a while now, separate from the old federal supplements.

For anyone still waiting - I used that Claimyr service mentioned earlier when I was in this situation last month. Got connected to a Washington ESD rep who walked me through exactly where my claim was in the process. Turned out there was an additional verification step I didn't know about. Worth checking out if you're stressed about the wait.

•I might have to try that. The uncertainty is driving me crazy and I can't get through on the phone myself.

Just want to add that if you're having trouble with the ID.me process itself, make sure you're using a good camera and proper lighting. I had to redo mine twice because the photos weren't clear enough. Also use a computer browser instead of your phone if possible - seems to work better.

•Good tip! I did mine on my laptop and it went through first try.

The waiting sucks but at least Washington ESD's system is pretty reliable once it gets going. Some states have way worse unemployment systems. I moved here from Florida and it's night and day difference.

•Really? I thought all state unemployment systems were terrible.

•Washington's actually one of the better ones. The phone wait times are still bad but the online system works and payments are reliable once you're approved.

Make sure you're checking your correspondence in your Washington ESD account too. Sometimes they send messages about additional documents needed and people miss them. That can delay things even after ID verification.

•Good point. I should probably check that more often. I've been so focused on the claim status.

•I checked mine daily during the wait. Luckily didn't get any additional requests.

One thing that helped me during the wait was setting up direct deposit if you haven't already. Speeds up the payment process once you're approved. Paper checks take longer to arrive.

Eve Freeman
•Already set up but thanks for mentioning it. Every day matters when you're behind on bills.

Melissa Lin
•Yeah I had direct deposit from the beginning. Payment showed up the day after status changed to paid.

For what it's worth, I've noticed Washington ESD tends to process identity verifications faster on weekdays. If you verified on a Tuesday like OP, that's probably optimal timing versus doing it on a Friday.

•Interesting observation. Makes sense that they'd have more staff processing things mid-week.

•I verified on a Thursday so hopefully that's still good timing.

The stress of waiting for unemployment payments is real. Hang in there everyone who's still waiting. The system works, it's just slow. Once you get that first payment the relief is incredible.

•It will! I was in the same headspace a week ago. Keep filing your weekly claims and it'll happen.

PSA: Don't try to verify your identity multiple times if it's already processing. I know someone who did that and it actually delayed their claim because it created duplicate records in the system.

•Yikes, good to know. I was tempted to try again since it's been 6 days.

The ID.me verification for Washington ESD is actually pretty secure compared to other states I've heard about. They use multiple verification methods which is why it takes a few days to fully process.

Val Rossi
•I guess that makes sense. Better secure than fast when it comes to preventing fraud.

Melissa Lin
•True. I'd rather wait a few extra days than have someone steal my benefits.

If anyone's claim gets stuck for longer than a week after ID verification, that might indicate there's another issue. I'd recommend using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier or trying to get through to Washington ESD directly to check what's holding it up.

Remember that even after your claim is approved, the first payment might take an extra day or two to process through your bank. Don't panic if the Washington ESD system shows 'paid' but you don't see the money immediately.

Melissa Lin
•Mine actually showed up the next day after it said paid. But good point about bank processing times.

•Thanks for the heads up. I'll try not to freak out if there's a delay between paid status and money in account.

This thread has been super helpful! I'm in the same situation and it's reassuring to hear from people who've been through it recently. The 3-5 day timeline seems pretty consistent from what everyone's sharing.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Just did my ID.me verification yesterday and seeing all these responses gives me so much hope. It's crazy how the waiting and uncertainty mess with your head when you're already stressed about money. @Melissa Lin thanks for asking this question - I was too anxious to post but really needed to hear these timelines. Going to make sure I keep filing my weekly claims like everyone mentioned. Fingers crossed we all get our payments soon!

•@Keisha Taylor You re'so welcome! I was definitely anxious about posting too but this community has been amazing. The waiting really does mess with your head - I was checking my account like every hour. Since you just verified yesterday, you re'probably looking at early next week based on everyone s'experiences here. Just remember to keep filing those weekly claims no matter what! We re'all in this together and it WILL work out. Keep us posted on how it goes!

•@Keisha Taylor I totally get that anxiety! I was in your exact shoes a few months ago after losing my job. The ID.me process itself was pretty straightforward but then waiting for Washington ESD to process it felt like forever. Based on what everyone s'sharing here, you should definitely see movement by early next week. The hardest part is just trusting the process when you re'stressed about bills. One thing that helped me was setting specific times to check my account like (once in the morning and once at night instead) of obsessively refreshing. Hang in there - the relief when that status finally changes is incredible!

I went through this exact process about 8 weeks ago and it was nerve-wracking! After completing ID.me verification, mine took 4 business days to process. What really helped my peace of mind was knowing that Washington ESD has actually improved their system a lot - they now send email notifications when your verification status changes, so you don't have to constantly check the portal. Also, make sure you have your banking info updated in the system because once it switches to "paid" status, the money usually hits your account within 24 hours with direct deposit. The back pay for all those weeks you've been waiting really adds up, so there's a nice lump sum coming your way! Just stay patient and keep filing those weekly claims.

•That's really helpful to know about the email notifications! I didn't realize Washington ESD had added that feature. The constant portal checking was definitely stressing me out more. It's good to hear the timeline is so consistent - 4 business days seems to be what most people are experiencing. The thought of that back pay lump sum is definitely keeping me motivated to stay patient. Thanks for sharing your experience!

•The email notifications are a game changer! I wish I had known about those when I was going through this process. I was literally refreshing the portal every few hours like a maniac. It's amazing how much Washington ESD has improved their system - a few years ago people were waiting weeks or even months. The 4-day timeline seems pretty reliable now, which gives everyone a realistic expectation to work with. @Jade Santiago did you get any intermediate email updates, or just the final approval notification?
