How long does identity verification take for unemployment Washington ESD?
I submitted my identity documents to Washington ESD three days ago through their secure upload portal and my claim is still showing 'pending identity verification'. I uploaded my driver's license, social security card, and W-2 forms like they requested. The website doesn't give any timeframe for how long this process takes. Has anyone been through this recently? I'm getting stressed because I need to know when I can expect my benefits to start flowing.

Identity verification with Washington ESD typically takes 1-2 weeks, but it can vary based on their current workload. Make sure all your documents were clear and readable when you uploaded them. If there are any issues with the quality, they'll request new documents which adds more time.

•The documents looked clear to me but maybe I should double-check. Is there a way to see if they accepted them or if they need different ones?

•Check your Washington ESD account dashboard - it should show the status of your uploaded documents. If they need additional verification, you'll usually see a notification there.

took me almost 3 weeks last month for identity verification to clear. the waiting is the worst part because you cant do anything but wait

•Three weeks?! That's so long. Did you have to call them or did it just eventually get approved?

•it just got approved on its own, never could get through on the phone to check status

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to check on your identity verification status, I used a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual person. They have a system that calls Washington ESD for you and gets you connected to an agent. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they even have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Really helped when I was stuck waiting on my verification.

•Is this legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•Yeah it's legitimate. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. They don't ask for your personal info or anything sketchy, just help you get through Washington ESD's phone system.

•I've heard of Claimyr too. Friend of mine used it when she couldn't get through to check on her adjudication. Saved her hours of calling.

IDENTITY VERIFICATION IS A JOKE!!! I've been waiting 4 weeks now and Washington ESD keeps saying they're 'processing' my documents. This is ridiculous - how hard is it to look at a driver's license??? People need their benefits to survive!

•I feel your frustration. The system is definitely overwhelmed right now.

•Overwhelmed is putting it nicely. This whole system is broken and they don't care about people who actually need help.

One thing to keep in mind - identity verification delays can happen if there's any discrepancy between the name on your documents and how it appears in Washington ESD's system. Even something as small as a middle initial being missing can cause delays. Also, if you've recently moved or changed your name, that can complicate things.

Zara Shah
•My name should match exactly. I haven't moved or changed anything recently. Maybe it's just the volume of claims they're processing?
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•Could be. Washington ESD has been dealing with higher than normal claim volumes even post-pandemic, so processing times for everything have been slower.

anyone know if you can still file weekly claims while waiting for identity verification? or do you have to wait until its approved
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•Yes, you should continue filing your weekly claims even while identity verification is pending. If you don't file, you could lose those weeks of benefits even after verification is complete.

•ok good to know, was worried about that

Just want to share my timeline for anyone curious - submitted documents on a Tuesday, got approved the following Wednesday. So exactly 8 days for me. But this was back in September when things might have been less busy.

Zara Shah
•That gives me some hope! What documents did you submit? I'm wondering if I should have included more than what they asked for.

Yuki Nakamura
•I just submitted exactly what they requested - driver's license and social security card. Sometimes submitting extra documents can actually slow things down because they have to review more materials.

Has anyone had their identity verification rejected and had to resubmit? I'm paranoid that I'll wait all this time just to find out something was wrong with my documents.
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•If documents get rejected, Washington ESD will usually send you a message through your online account explaining what needs to be corrected. Common issues are blurry photos, expired documents, or documents that don't clearly show your full name and address.

•Good to know. I made sure to take high-quality photos with good lighting, so hopefully that's not an issue.

This whole identity verification thing is such a pain. I had to submit mine twice because the first time the photo of my social security card was apparently too dark. Took almost a month total.

Zara Shah
•A month?! That's terrible. Did they at least backpay you for all the weeks you waited?
0 coins
StarSurfer
•Yeah they did backpay, but only because I kept filing my weekly claims. If you stop filing while waiting, you lose those weeks permanently.

For anyone still struggling to get updates on their identity verification status, I really recommend trying Claimyr. I know I mentioned it before, but it made such a difference for me. Instead of calling Washington ESD hundreds of times, their system does it for you and gets you to an actual person who can check your case.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already struggling financially.

•I don't want to get into pricing details here, but for me it was worth it just to get peace of mind about my claim status. Check their site at claimyr.com for current info.

UPDATE: Just wanted to thank everyone for the advice. My identity verification finally got approved this morning - took exactly 11 days from when I submitted. Now I'm just waiting for my first payment to process. Keeping my fingers crossed!

•Congratulations! That's a pretty reasonable timeframe. Your first payment should process within a few days of verification approval.

For future reference, Washington ESD's identity verification process is supposed to take 5-10 business days according to their official guidelines, but real-world experience shows it often takes longer. The key is to make sure your documents are crystal clear and match exactly what's in their system.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•Good to know for anyone else going through this. The 5-10 days is definitely optimistic based on what people are reporting here.
0 coins
Andre Moreau
•Exactly. It's better to expect 2-3 weeks and be pleasantly surprised if it's faster than to expect 5 days and get frustrated when it takes longer.

Anyone know if identity verification times are different for different types of claims? Like does regular UI take longer than standby or something?
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•The identity verification process is generally the same regardless of claim type. What can affect timing is whether you're a first-time claimant or if there are any flags on your account that require additional review.

Zoe Christodoulou
•Makes sense. I'm filing standby for the first time so wasn't sure if that changed anything.

Just a heads up - if you submitted documents through the old system before they updated their portal, you might need to resubmit them through the new system. Found this out the hard way when I was wondering why my verification was taking so long.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•How can you tell which system you used? I submitted mine through the link in my Washington ESD account.
0 coins
Jamal Thompson
•If you submitted through your regular Washington ESD account dashboard, that should be the current system. The old system was a separate portal that they discontinued a few months ago.

This thread is really helpful! I'm about to submit my identity verification documents and was wondering what to expect. Sounds like 2-3 weeks is realistic and I should definitely keep filing my weekly claims while waiting.
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•That's exactly right. Take clear photos, submit exactly what they ask for, keep filing weekly, and be patient. Most people get approved eventually.

•Thanks! This whole unemployment process is so stressful but at least I know what to expect now.

One more thing - if you're worried about the status of your identity verification and can't get through to Washington ESD by phone, I've heard good things about that Claimyr service people mentioned. Might be worth looking into if you're really anxious about the process.

Zara Shah
•Yeah, several people have mentioned it in this thread. Seems like it could be helpful for people who are really struggling to get through.

•I can vouch for it personally. Really made a difference when I was stuck waiting and couldn't get anyone on the phone at Washington ESD.

Does anyone know if there's a way to expedite identity verification if you're in a really bad financial situation? Like is there a hardship process or anything?
0 coins
Luca Bianchi
•Unfortunately, Washington ESD doesn't have an expedited process for identity verification based on financial hardship. The process times are what they are. Your best bet is to make sure everything was submitted correctly and keep following up.

CosmicCadet
•That's disappointing but I guess it makes sense. Just frustrating when you really need the benefits.

PSA for anyone reading this - make sure you upload documents in the correct file format. Washington ESD's system can be picky about file types and sizes. I had to resubmit because my photos were too large.
0 coins
Zara Shah
•What file format and size worked for you? I want to make sure I didn't mess that up.

•JPG files under 5MB worked fine for me. PDF files seem to work too but I stuck with photos since that's what they specifically asked for.

I went through identity verification about 6 months ago and it took exactly 2 weeks. One tip I'd add that I haven't seen mentioned yet - if you have a passport, that can sometimes be processed faster than driver's license + social security card combo since it's a single federal document. Also, make sure you're checking your account at least once a day because sometimes they'll request additional documents and the notification isn't super obvious. The key is really just being patient and staying on top of your weekly claims like everyone said!

CosmicCommander
•That's a great tip about using a passport! I didn't even think about that option. I already submitted my driver's license and social security card, but for anyone else reading this who has a passport, that sounds like it could be simpler. And you're absolutely right about checking the account daily - I've been obsessively checking mine anyway just hoping to see a status change.
