ESD asking for 2 forms of ID - stuck in pending status for weeks
I finally submitted the 2 forms of identification ESD requested last week (driver's license and birth certificate), but my claim is still showing 'pending' status and last week's benefits are also pending. Anyone know how long they typically take to verify ID documents and start processing payments after you've sent everything in? I've got rent due in 10 days and I'm starting to stress out. The ESD website doesn't give any timeline information.

•5 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long! Did calling them help speed things up at all?

Identity verification usually takes 2-3 weeks on average. The specific timeline depends on their current workload and whether your documents raised any flags in their system. Make sure you can see your uploaded documents in your eServices portal under 'Uploaded Documents.' If they're not visible there, they might not have received them properly.

•Thanks for the info. I can see the documents in my portal, so at least I know they got them. Is there any way to check if there are issues with my verification? The status just says 'pending' with no other details.

my cousin just went thru this! he said they needed 2 forms of ID because of the fraud prevention stuff they started in 2023. took about 16 days for him but he got backpay for all the weeks once it cleared

•16 days is still cutting it close for me but at least it's not 5 weeks. Good to know they do backpay though!

Have you tried calling the claims center? I was stuck in pending for weeks, but when I finally got through to a real person they fixed it while I was on the phone. The trick is getting through their phone system which is almost impossible during normal business hours.

•I've tried calling like 20 times and either get a busy signal or the automated message saying call volume is too high. It's so frustrating!

This ID verification process is standard procedure, especially if there's anything in your claim that triggered their fraud prevention algorithms. This could be a name mismatch, address change, or even claiming from a different IP address. Typical processing times in 2025: - Best case: 10-14 business days - Average case: 15-21 business days - Complex cases: 3-6 weeks If you need to reach an agent (which can sometimes expedite things), I recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical but it actually worked for me when I was stuck in adjudication last month. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It saved me from having to call hundreds of times.

•Thank you for the detailed info. I'll check out that Claimyr service if I don't see movement in the next few days. I'm willing to try anything at this point!

I went through this in January and was terrified I wouldn't make rent. One thing I learned: CONTINUE FILING YOUR WEEKLY CLAIMS even while you're waiting for ID verification! If you miss filing weeks, you'll have an even bigger headache. They'll eventually process all those weeks once your ID is verified (took 17 days for me).

•That's really good advice, thanks! I've been filing my weekly claims but was wondering if it was pointless while waiting. Glad to hear I should keep doing it.

is anyone else noticing that ESD keeps changing their policies??? last year my brother only had to provide ONE form of ID but now they want TWO from everyone? and then they take FOREVER to process them! i bet they're just trying to delay payments to save money. the whole system is designed to make people give up!!!

•They actually changed the ID verification requirements after the massive fraud cases during the pandemic. The two-ID requirement has been standard since mid-2023. While processing times are frustrating, it's not a deliberate attempt to deny benefits - they're just understaffed and dealing with a lot of claims.

make sure u answer ur phone even if u dont recognize the number!!! sometimes ESD calls from random numbers and if u miss it they just mark ur file as 'unable to contact' and delay everything another week!

•Oh wow, I didn't know this! I've been ignoring unknown numbers because of all the spam calls. I'll definitely answer everything now, thanks for the tip!
