How long after employer verification until ESD makes approval/denial decision?

I filed my initial claim 3 weeks ago and my eServices account shows they contacted my former employer for verification 8 days ago. The status still just says 'pending' and I'm getting really anxious about whether I'll be approved or not. Does anyone know how long it typically takes ESD to make a decision after they've heard back from your employer? I'm trying to figure out if I should be expecting a response soon or if I'll be waiting another month. My last employer let me go due to 'restructuring' but we parted on good terms so I don't think they'd contest anything...

In my experience, it varies a lot depending on your specific case and current workload at ESD. If everything is straightforward and your employer confirmed the separation reason without contesting anything, you could hear back within 1-2 weeks after employer verification. But if there's any discrepancy or if your employer didn't respond promptly, it can take 3-4 weeks or more before you get a decision. Have you checked your "Notices/Letters" section in eServices? Sometimes they post decisions there before updating the claim status.

Thanks for responding! I just checked my Notices/Letters section and there's nothing new there. My anxiety is through the roof because rent is due next week. Do you think calling them would speed things up or just waste my time?

mine took TWO MONTHS!! but my employer contested it so thats prob why it took so long. if your employer is cool it might be faster. the waiting is THE WORST tho

TWO MONTHS?? Oh god I can't wait that long. Did you keep filing weekly claims during that whole time?

The timeline can vary significantly based on several factors. For standard uncontested claims, ESD typically makes a determination within 2-3 weeks after employer verification. However, if your claim enters adjudication for any reason, it can take 4-6 weeks or longer. A few things that might help: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the initial determination 2. Check your spam folder for emails from ESD 3. Log into eServices regularly to check for updates 4. If it's been more than 3 weeks since employer verification, trying to contact ESD directly is reasonable If your employer provided verification and didn't contest anything, you should hear back relatively soon. The system is somewhat backed up right now due to seasonal claims increasing.

This is good advice but calling ESD is impossible!!!!! I spent 3 days trying last month and never got through. The automated system just hangs up on you when they're too busy which is ALWAYS. So frustrating!!!

I had a similar situation last year and found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an ESD agent when I couldn't get through on my own. Basically they hold your place in line and call you when they have an agent on the phone. Saved me from the endless redial cycle. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their site is claimyr.com. It was worth it for me because I had questions that only an agent could answer about my verification status.

Has anyone else used this? Seems kinda sketchy to pay for something that should be free... but I guess if it works and you're desperate...

The ENTIRE system is designed to be frustrating and make people give up! I waited 5 weeks after employer verification only to be DENIED for some bogus reason. Then I had to file an appeal which took ANOTHER 6 weeks! ESD is a joke and they don't care about actual people who need help. They'll make you wait as long as possible hoping you'll just give up and go away.

While I understand your frustration, this isn't entirely accurate. ESD has specific timelines they try to meet for processing claims. Staffing shortages and high claim volumes can cause delays, but it's not a deliberate strategy to make people give up. Appeals do take longer because they go through the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), which is a separate entity with its own scheduling process.

I've been filing my weekly claims, so that's good to know I'm doing something right! Just wish there was a clear timeline somewhere.

I used Claimyr twice last year and it worked both times. Got through to an actual person who could tell me what was happening with my claim. Not sketchy at all - they just have a system that keeps redialing for you instead of you having to do it manually.

Thanks for the info - might give that a try if I don't hear anything by the end of next week. At this point I'd pay just to know what's going on!

My sister's boyfriend's cousin works at ESD (or used to anyway) and he said they're super backed up right now because of seasonal layoffs in construction. So probably add an extra week to whatever the normal time would be.

If it's been 8 days since employer verification and you parted on good terms, there's a good chance they've already responded positively. ESD is currently processing standard claims in about 14-21 days after employer verification, based on what I've seen in recent cases. One thing to note: if your claim shows 'pending' rather than 'adjudication in progress,' that's actually a good sign. Pending typically means they're just working through the queue, while adjudication means there's some specific issue they're investigating. If you don't hear anything by the end of week 4 (from initial filing), then it would be reasonable to try contacting them directly for a status update.

That's really helpful, thank you! It does just say 'pending' and not 'adjudication' so that makes me feel a bit better. I'll try to be patient for another week or so before panicking more.

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed 3 weeks ago and they contacted my employer 6 days ago. Also laid off due to "restructuring" and left on good terms. The waiting is killing me - I keep refreshing eServices hoping something will change. At least it sounds like we're both in the normal timeframe based on what others are saying here. Fingers crossed we both hear back soon!
