How do I check the status of my unemployment claim - Washington ESD account shows nothing
Filed my UI claim about 2 weeks ago and I'm getting nervous because I can't figure out how to actually see what's happening with it. When I log into my Washington ESD account through SecureAccess Washington, I see my claim number but there's no clear status anywhere. Is there a specific page I should be looking at? My friend said hers showed 'pending' or 'approved' somewhere but I don't see anything like that. Really need to know if something's wrong or if it's just processing normally.

Go to your main account page after logging in through SAW and look for the 'Claims and Payments' section. Your claim status should show there - it'll say things like 'Active', 'Pending', 'Adjudication', etc. If you don't see a status at all, that's actually not normal.

•I see Claims and Payments but when I click it just shows my claim number and filing date. No status anywhere that I can find.

•That's weird, the status should definitely be visible there. Try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache. Sometimes the Washington ESD site doesn't load everything properly.

same thing happened to me last month - couldn't see any status for like 3 weeks then suddenly it showed up as approved. the system is just slow sometimes

•Did you do anything to make it show up or just wait? I'm worried something got lost in the system.

•just waited but i was freaking out too. try calling if you're really worried but good luck getting through

If you can't see your claim status after 2 weeks, there might be an issue that needs to be addressed. Check if there are any 'To Do' items in your account that need completion. Also look for any correspondence in your inbox - Washington ESD will send messages if they need additional information for your claim.

•No to-do items showing and my inbox is empty. This is really frustrating - how am I supposed to know if my claim is even being processed?

•At this point you really need to speak with someone at Washington ESD directly. The phone lines are usually busy but it's the only way to get real answers about claim status issues.

I had the exact same problem last year and spent weeks trying to get through to Washington ESD by phone. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to an agent. They have this video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Saved me so much time and frustration trying to call myself.

•How does that work exactly? Is it expensive?

•It's way easier than calling yourself - they handle all the waiting and get you connected when an agent is available. Worth it just for the peace of mind when you're dealing with claim status issues like this.

•never heard of that but anything's better than spending 4 hours on hold

THE WASHINGTON ESD WEBSITE IS COMPLETE GARBAGE!!! I've been trying to check my claim status for WEEKS and half the time the site won't even load properly. How are we supposed to manage our claims when their own system doesn't work???

•I feel your pain - this is so stressful when you need these benefits to pay bills

•The site definitely has issues but getting angry won't help. Try using a different browser or device sometimes that helps with the loading problems.

Check under 'Benefit Payment Control' too - sometimes the status shows up there instead of the main claims page. The Washington ESD site isn't very intuitive about where information is located.

•I don't see anything called Benefit Payment Control in my account. Maybe it's because my claim is still new?

•Could be - that section might only appear after your first payment is processed. If you filed 2 weeks ago you're probably still in the initial review period.

omg this is bringing back memories of when i filed... took me forever to figure out the website. there's also a mobile app that sometimes shows different info than the desktop version

•There's a mobile app? What's it called?

•i think it's just called Washington ESD or something like that. haven't used it in a while but it might be worth downloading

Actually, let me clarify something important - when you say you filed 2 weeks ago, did you also file your first weekly claim? Your initial application and your weekly claims are separate processes. You won't see payment information until you've filed at least one weekly claim.

CosmicCadet
•Wait what? I thought filing the initial application was all I needed to do. No one told me about weekly claims!

•You need to file weekly claims every week to certify that you're still unemployed and looking for work. Check your account for a 'Weekly Claims' section - you should have been filing these already.

•This is exactly why the Washington ESD system is so confusing - they don't explain this stuff clearly during the application process

Weekly claims are due every Sunday and cover the previous week. If you haven't been filing them for 2 weeks, you need to catch up ASAP. Late filing can delay your payments significantly.

•Can I file the weekly claims I missed or am I screwed? This is exactly what I was worried about.

•You should be able to file late weekly claims but there might be a delay in processing. Log in and look for any available weekly claim periods - file them immediately.

been there done that with the weekly claims confusion. washington esd really needs to make this clearer. i missed my first week too and had to call to sort it out

•How long did it take to get through when you called? I'm seeing that calling might be my only option at this point.

•took me like 3 hours of trying different times of day before i got through. early morning worked best for me

This is exactly the kind of situation where Claimyr really helps - when you have specific questions about your claim status that need an actual person to answer. Much better than spending hours trying to get through on your own.

•I was skeptical about using a service like that but honestly after trying to call Washington ESD myself for days, I get it. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone who knows what they're doing.

•I'm seriously considering it at this point. This is way more complicated than I thought it would be.

Look, the bottom line is this: if you can't see your claim status AND you haven't been filing weekly claims, you need to get on the phone with Washington ESD ASAP. Don't wait for the system to magically fix itself.

•You're right, I need to stop hoping the website will start working and actually get answers from a real person.

•Exactly. The automated systems are helpful when everything's working normally, but when there's a problem you need human intervention.

just wanted to add that when you do get through to someone make sure to ask about the weekly claims you missed AND why your status isn't showing up. might be two separate issues that need to be addressed

•Good point - I'll write down my questions before I call so I don't forget anything important.

•smart idea. also have your claim number and SSN ready because they'll ask for that right away

This whole thread is making me grateful that my claim went smoothly. The Washington ESD system really needs to be more user-friendly for people who aren't familiar with how unemployment works.

•Seriously! I feel like I needed a manual just to figure out the basics.

Pro tip: when you call Washington ESD, don't hang up if you get the busy signal. Sometimes if you stay on the line it'll eventually put you in the queue. Learned this the hard way after hanging up dozens of times.

CosmicCadet
•I had no idea! I've been hanging up every time I get the busy signal. Thanks for the tip.

•Yeah it's not obvious at all. Sometimes you'll wait 10-15 minutes just to get into the actual hold queue, but it's better than calling back repeatedly.

UPDATE: I just checked my account again and I can see where to file weekly claims now! Still no status showing but at least I can start filing the claims I missed. Thanks everyone for the help.

•Great! File those weekly claims immediately. Your status should start showing up once you've filed at least one weekly claim and it's been processed.

•Just filed two weekly claims - hopefully that gets things moving. Still planning to call if I don't see any changes in a few days.

Oliver Wagner
•you'll probably see your status update within 24-48 hours after filing those weekly claims. that's when the system usually catches up

This is such a common problem that Washington ESD really should send clearer instructions after people file their initial claim. The number of people who don't know about weekly claims is ridiculous.

•Completely agree. A simple email explaining the next steps would save so much confusion.

•they do send emails but they're easy to miss and don't clearly explain what you need to do next. needs to be more obvious

Glad this got figured out! For anyone else reading this later - always file your weekly claims even if you can't see your claim status. The weekly claims are what trigger the payments once your initial claim is approved.

One more thing - if you're still having trouble seeing your claim status after filing weekly claims, try logging out completely and logging back in. Sometimes the Washington ESD system needs a full refresh to show updated information.

CosmicCadet
•Will definitely try that if needed. Thanks for all the troubleshooting tips everyone!

•No problem! The Washington ESD system can be finicky but once you know the tricks it's much easier to navigate.
