ESD status still showing 'disqualified' after approval letter - system glitch?

I'm so confused with ESD right now! I received an approval letter dated 1/31/25 saying my adjudication is complete and I'm approved for benefits, but when I log into my eServices account, my claim status STILL shows 'disqualified'. It's been 8 days since I got that letter and nothing has changed in the system. I've tried everything to get this fixed - called the claims center at least 15 times (always get the 'high call volume' message), sent 3 messages through the portal, and even tried the virtual assistant chat feature. Complete radio silence from ESD! I'm starting to panic because I've got bills coming due and was counting on those benefits. Has this happened to anyone else? Is the system just slow to update or is something wrong with my claim?

Ugh, the ESD system is notorious for these status discrepancies! The exact same thing happened to me back in November. I got the approval letter but my online status stayed as "disqualified" for almost TWO WEEKS before it finally updated. What worked for me was calling the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) instead of the regular ESD number. They have a different phone system and sometimes can transfer you directly to an ESD agent, bypassing the normal queue. Worth a shot! The number is 1-800-366-0955. Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll definitely try calling the OAH number tomorrow morning. Did you have to explain your situation to them first or did they just transfer you right away? Also, did you receive any backpay for the weeks while your status was still showing disqualified?

This is actually a pretty common issue with the ESD system. The approval letter is the official determination, but their internal systems don't always update right away. The technical term for what you're experiencing is a "lag in status reconciliation" between their determination system and the payment system. You have a few options: 1. Keep trying the main number early in the morning (right at 8:00 AM) 2. Contact your state representative's office - they often have dedicated ESD liaisons 3. Try calling the technical support line instead of the claims line Have you checked if any payments are pending in your payment history section? Sometimes the money gets processed even while the status is wrong.

Thank you for such a detailed response! I haven't thought to check the payment history section - just did and there's nothing pending there either. I didn't know contacting my state rep was an option! I'll try the early morning call tomorrow and if that doesn't work, I might try reaching out to my representative. This whole process is so stressful.

Thanks for the reassurance! It's good to know it might resolve itself. I'm just nervous because I'm already behind on rent and was really counting on this money coming through this week.

I worked at ESD as a claims specialist until last year, and I can tell you what's happening. There are two separate systems that don't communicate well with each other - the adjudication system (which generates determination letters) and the payment system (what you see online). The adjudicator marked your claim as approved, but someone needs to manually update your status in the payment system. Unfortunately, these manual updates often get backlogged, especially when they're understaffed. You definitely need to speak with someone. Calling the OAH as suggested is a good idea, but you can also try calling at exactly 7:59 AM and hitting the options for the claims center as soon as the system opens at 8:00. Have your letter in front of you with the determination ID number when you call.

Thank you for explaining what's happening behind the scenes! That makes so much sense now. I'll try calling right at opening tomorrow with my letter ready. Do you think I should also send another message through eServices with the determination ID number, or is calling definitely the better option?

Has anyone tried using Claimyr to get through to ESD? I was stuck in a similar situation last month and couldn't get anyone on the phone for weeks. My friend recommended this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that somehow gets you through to an actual ESD agent. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I was super skeptical but desperate, and it actually worked! Got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed my claim status right away. Just sharing in case it helps - the regular phone system is practically impossible.

CONGRATS ON THE UPDATE!!! So glad to hear you got through! I've been following this thread because I'm having a similar issue (been stuck in adjudication for 3 weeks). Can I ask what time you called the OAH office? And did they just transfer you immediately or did you have to explain your situation to them first? I might try this approach tomorrow.

I called the OAH around 9:30 AM. I just briefly explained that I had an approved determination letter but my online status hadn't updated, and they transferred me to the ESD queue immediately. I still had to wait about 20 minutes, but at least I got through! The agent (Corey) was super helpful and updated my status while I was on the phone. He said the payments should process within 48 hours. Such a relief!

This is great news! For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, here's what happened: the OAH has a direct transfer line to ESD that bypasses the normal call routing system. It's not publicized, but it's a legitimate way to get through when the main line is jammed. Just be aware that this method should only be used if you have a legitimate issue like OP did with contradicting information between your determination letter and online status. The payments should show up in your account within 2-3 business days.

That's exactly right! And just wanted to update everyone - my payments just hit my account this morning! The status now shows 'paid' for the weeks I claimed. Such a relief after all that stress. Thanks to everyone who offered advice!
