ESD phone nightmare - Governor's office just makes you leave voicemails?

So frustrated right now. Been trying to get my adjudication issue resolved for WEEKS and ESD keeps disconnecting me. Thought I'd try calling the governor's office since someone mentioned that might help. Just called and all I got was a voicemail system! No actual person. Has anyone actually gotten through to a real person at the governor's office? Did they actually help with your unemployment claim or am I just wasting my time leaving messages that no one will ever listen to? Getting desperate as rent is due next week and my claim has been stuck in adjudication since March 15th.

I've been through this exact situation. The governor's office voicemail is standard - they get too many calls to answer them all directly. BUT they do listen to those messages and sometimes they help! I left a detailed message about my ESD adjudication issue (included my claim ID, how long I'd been waiting, and specific hardships). Got a call back 3 days later from someone in their constituent services team who contacted ESD on my behalf. My claim was resolved within a week after that. Make sure your message is clear, concise, and includes your contact info!

Wow really?? I honestly thought those voicemails just went into the void. I'll leave another message with more details. How specific were you about your financial situation? Did you have to like prove you were about to be evicted or something?

That's unfortunate - I think it really depends on how swamped they are with requests. When did you try calling them? Their responsiveness seems to vary a lot based on how many people are having issues at any given time.

The Governor's office can sometimes help, but they're not a magic solution. They basically just send an inquiry to ESD's special liaison team that handles legislative/executive inquiries. Sometimes this puts your claim in front of the right person, but it doesn't guarantee anything. You might consider trying multiple approaches simultaneously: 1. Leave that voicemail with the Governor's office (include claim ID, contact info, and brief description) 2. Contact your state representatives (they have staff who handle constituent services) 3. Keep sending secure messages through your ESD account 4. Try calling early morning (right when they open) or late afternoon (near closing) Also, make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even while in adjudication. If you miss weeks, it creates a bigger mess to fix later.

Thanks for all these suggestions! I've been filing my weekly claims religiously even though nothing's been paid. I'll definitely reach out to my state rep too - didn't think of that. Do you know if there's a faster way to just get someone on the phone at ESD directly? The automated system just keeps disconnecting me.

I had some success using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent when my claim was stuck in adjudication for over a month. It's a service that basically handles the hold times and calls you back when they get an agent on the line. Worked for me after weeks of failed attempts calling directly. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 That said, I also left messages with both the Governor's office AND my state representative. I think the combo approach is what finally got my claim moving. The state rep's office actually called me back within 48 hours.

Thank you! I've been hearing about Claimyr but wasn't sure if it was legit. I'll check out that video. At this point I'll try anything because I need my benefits ASAP.

Governor's office is useless!!! I left SEVEN messages over TWO MONTHS and never got a single callback!!! Meanwhile my car got repossessed and I almost lost my apartment. ESD is a BROKEN SYSTEM and nobody in government cares!!!

I'm really sorry you had such a terrible experience. The system definitely gets overwhelmed and fails too many people. Did you ever try reaching out to your state representatives as well? In my experience, they sometimes have better response rates than the governor's office, especially if you contact both your state senator and representative.

I've been going through the adjudication process too (9 weeks now) and finally got movement after contacting my state representative. The governor's office is dealing with issues across the entire state, but your local reps are specifically focused on helping constituents in their district. My rep's office had me fill out a form authorizing them to inquire about my case, then they contacted ESD directly. I heard back from an ESD supervisor within 3 days. My advice: try both the governor's office AND your local representatives. Make sure to clearly explain your hardship situation (rent due, bills piling up, etc) and include your claim ID number and contact information. Be persistent but professional.

This is really good advice - thank you! I just looked up my representatives and there's a form right on their website for constituent services. I'm filling it out now. I'll update here if I get any response.

You're thinking of the special email system they set up during the pandemic for the massive backlog in 2020-2021. Unfortunately, that specific system isn't active anymore. The regular constituent services channels (phone/website contact forms) are what's available now. The pandemic-era special systems were discontinued once the emergency declarations ended.

Quick update: I tried all the suggestions here. Left detailed message for governor's office (no response yet), filled out the form for my state rep (got an auto-reply saying they'll contact me within 3 business days), AND used Claimyr this morning to get through to ESD directly. The Claimyr thing actually worked - I got a call back when they reached an agent and spoke to someone who could see my claim. Here's what they told me: my adjudication is for "able and available" verification because I had a 2-week trip during my claim period. The agent said it could take another 2-3 weeks to resolve but they added notes about my hardship situation. So at least I know what's happening now. I'll update again if the governor's office or my rep gets back to me!

That's progress! Now that you know the specific issue (able and available determination), you can mention that specifically in your communications with the governor's office and your representative. That makes it easier for them to push on the right buttons at ESD. And since you know it's an able and available issue related to travel, you might want to proactively send documentation through your ESD account message center showing that you were still job searching during that period (if you were), or explaining why the trip unavoidably prevented job searching but was a limited circumstance that's now resolved. Sometimes providing that information proactively can speed things up.
