ESD paid my benefits on same day but in separate deposits - normal?
Got something weird with my ESD benefits today. I checked my bank account and saw that my unemployment payment came through, but it was split into multiple separate deposits that showed up throughout the day instead of one lump sum like usual. The total amount matches what I was expecting, but I'm confused why they'd send it in pieces? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned that something's wrong with my claim? I've been on UI for about 6 weeks now and this is the first time it's happened.

•That's a relief to hear! Did your payments go back to normal the next week? I'm trying to figure out if this is going to be the new norm or just a one-time glitch.

This is actually fairly common with ESD's payment processing system. When they have a high volume of claims being processed on the same day, sometimes the system breaks larger payments into smaller chunks to process them faster. As long as the total amount matches what you're entitled to on your weekly claim, there's nothing to worry about. You can verify everything in your payment history on eServices if you want to double-check.

•Not exactly true... I work in banking and what's probably happening is the ACH processing is being batched differently on their end. ESD doesn't decide to "break up payments to process them faster" - that's not how the banking system works. But yeah, OP doesn't need to worry as long as total amount is correct.

I had this happen when part of my payment was from regular UI and part was from some adjustment they made to a previous week. Check your payment detail on eServices by clicking on the payment history. It should show you exactly what each amount was for. Mine was split because one part was regular benefits and the other was for a week they had initially underpaid me.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I just checked and you're right - looks like part of it was my regular weekly benefit amount and the other part was labeled as "adjustment payment" from a week where I reported some earnings. Mystery solved!

THE ESD SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! I've had FOUR different payment issues in the past 3 months. Sometimes split payments, sometimes delayed, once completely missing! When I finally got through to someone after calling 37 TIMES, they just said "oh that happens sometimes" with NO EXPLANATION!!!! The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

•If you're having that many issues with your claim, it sounds like there might be something specific going on with your account that needs attention. Have you tried scheduling a phone appointment through your eServices portal? That way you don't have to keep calling repeatedly. The split payment thing is pretty common though and usually not a sign of problems.

I've been dealing with ESD for over a year now (on and off unemployment) and sometimes their system does weird things like this. If you're really concerned, you can try to contact them, but good luck getting through. I spent 3 days trying to reach someone about an actual payment problem last month. If you're determined to speak with them, I recently found this service called Claimyr that can help get you through to an ESD agent much faster. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to fix an issue with my claim.

•Thanks for the tip! Since it looks like everything is actually correct with my payment, I probably don't need to call in this time. But I'm going to bookmark that site for the future. Last time I needed to speak with someone at ESD it took me almost a week of trying.

•No, split payments don't indicate any issues with your claim. It's just a processing quirk that happens sometimes with ESD's payment system. As long as your total benefits match what you're expecting and your claim status shows as active/paid, you're fine.

Personally had this happen 4-5 times over the last year on my claim. Sometimes it's when they're processing retroactive payments or adjustments, other times it just seems random. One thing I noticed is it seems to happen more often when my weekly claim is processed on a Monday rather than Sunday.
