ESD never sent my 1099-G form - need contact info after late payment

I've been stuck in ESD limbo for months! Filed my unemployment claim back in November 2024 and JUST NOW got my first payment (it's March!). Problem is, tax season is here and I never received my 1099-G form that I need for filing. Does anyone know the specific number I should call to request my tax form? I tried the main ESD number but kept getting disconnected after 45 minutes on hold. Really don't want to deal with tax penalties on top of everything else I've been through with this claim.

You need to call the tax form hotline at 360-486-2822. It's separate from the regular claims line. You can also try to download your 1099-G directly from your eServices account - there should be a "tax forms" link on the main dashboard after you log in. Since your payment was so late, your 1099-G might not have been generated with the regular batch in January.

Thank you! I checked eServices but couldn't find anything under tax forms. I'll try calling that number tomorrow.

Ugh, really? Did you eventually get your 1099-G? I'm hoping to avoid filing an extension if possible.

The most efficient way to get this resolved is to submit a secure message through your eServices account. Go to your dashboard, click on "Send a message" and select "Tax form request" as the category. Make sure to include your claim ID and the tax year you need (2024). They're typically responding to these requests within 5-7 business days right now, which is faster than trying to call in most cases.

ya but sometimes those messages just go into the void... i sent like 3 messages about my missing payments and ZERO response!

That's true, message response has been inconsistent. If you don't get a response within a week, that's when calling becomes necessary.

I've been having THE WORST time getting through to ESD by phone lately. After weeks of trying, I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that somehow got me connected to an actual ESD agent in under 30 minutes! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I spoke with was able to resolve all my tax form issues immediately. So much better than waiting on hold for hours or sending messages that never get answered.

is that service legit? seems kinda sketchy that they can magically get u through when nobody else can

It's definitely legit. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. They just have some way of navigating the phone system that gets you in the queue faster.

ESD IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!! First they make you wait MONTHS for your money and then they can't even send proper tax docs?? This is ridiculous!!! I had to request my 1099-G THREE TIMES last year before they finally sent it in APRIL! By then I'd already had to file an extension which cost me more $$$. The whole system is deliberately designed to make it as hard as possible to get your benefits OR file your taxes correctly. And don't even get me started on how they'll probably try to claim you owe them an overpayment next year!!!

While I understand your frustration, I want to clarify that the 1099-G delays are usually system issues rather than deliberate barriers. The tax form system and claims systems don't always communicate efficiently, especially with delayed payments that happen after the regular January tax form generation.

you can also check the irs website they might have it on file already even if esd didnt mail it to you, thats what i did last year when mine got lost

Update: I called the tax form number and was told that because my payment was so recent, my 1099-G won't be generated until next month. The agent said I should file for an extension if I can't wait that long. So frustrating that it takes 4 months to get paid and then I have to wait even longer for the tax form! At least I know what's going on now. Thanks everyone for your help.

thats exactly what happened to me!! extensions are easy to file tho, just use the irs form 4868

Glad you got an answer! One additional tip: When your 1099-G does arrive, double-check that the amount matches what you actually received. Since your payment came late, there's a higher chance of discrepancies. If there are any errors, you'll need to request a corrected 1099-G right away.

my nieghbor works at h&r block and she says u can estimate ur ui income on taxes and then amend later when u get the real 1099g. might be easier than extension

While that's technically possible, I'd caution against it unless you're 100% certain of the exact amount you received. Filing an amendment later is more complicated than filing an extension now. Extensions are very straightforward and give you until October to file without penalties.
