ESD claim stuck on 'processing' in IVR system since yesterday - normal or problem?

I filed my unemployment claim yesterday at 12:30pm and when I call the automated phone system (IVR) it still just says "processing". Shouldn't it have updated by now? This is my first time filing so I'm not sure if this is normal or if something went wrong with my application. The website doesn't show any updates either. For those who've filed recently, how long did your claim take to move past the processing stage? Should I be worried or is this timeline normal for ESD right now?

Don't panic yet! ESD's system typically takes 24-48 hours to fully process new claims. The IVR message will continue to say

Thanks for the reassurance! Yes, I did get a confirmation number in my email. I guess I'm just nervous because I really need this claim to go through. I'll try to be patient and check again tomorrow afternoon.

Oh no, 2 weeks in adjudication sounds awful! Did you end up getting approved after all that waiting?

I've been through this a few times over the years, and in my experience, the IVR system is the LAST thing to update. The eServices portal on the website will usually show changes before the phone system does. Have you checked your eServices account for any messages or status updates? Sometimes there will be additional information there even while the IVR still says \

THEY ALWAYS SAY 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS BUT THATS A LIE!! mine said processing for 3 weeks and i couldn't get anyone on the phone to tell me what was happening. absolute nightmare dealing with ESD!!

While the system can be frustrating, 3 weeks in processing status is definitely not normal. Most claims do move to the next stage within 1-3 business days. If anyone experiences a delay longer than a week in just the initial processing stage (not adjudication), there's likely an issue with your claim that needs attention. I'd recommend calling as soon as you hit the 5 business day mark in processing status.

I did get a confirmation email with my claim ID number, but nothing else since then. I'll check my spam folder though, thanks for the suggestion!

When mine was stuck in processing for over a week, I was going crazy trying to get through on the phone. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an ESD agent and found out there was an identity verification issue they needed to resolve. Fixed it in one call. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - totally worth it for the peace of mind after all that waiting and uncertainty.

does that thing actually work? i spent hours on hold before getting through

Yeah it worked for me. Their system calls ESD for you and then calls your phone when they get through to an agent. Saved me from having to sit on hold for hours.

Processing status on a newly filed claim typically updates within 48-72 hours during normal volume periods. However, if you filed on a Friday or before a holiday, it may take until the next business day to update. Here's what you should know:\n\n1. The IVR (phone system) often updates slower than the eServices portal\n2. Make sure ALL application sections are completed in eServices\n3. If it stays in processing for more than 3 business days, there may be an issue requiring attention\n4. Your first weekly claim can't be filed until the initial claim processing is complete\n\nRegarding your timeline - filing yesterday at 12:30pm means it's been less than 24 hours, which is still within normal parameters. I recommend checking again tomorrow, and if there's no change by Friday, then consider reaching out to ESD directly.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! This is really helpful. I did find a task I needed to complete in eServices that I missed initially. I've submitted that now, so hopefully that will help move things along. I'll check again tomorrow as suggested.

Just checking back - did your claim status update yet? Sometimes completing those additional questionnaires can trigger the system to move forward with processing right away.
