ESD weekly claim stuck on 'Processing-Web' for over 48 hours - normal or problem?
I got laid off from my restaurant job on March 7th and filed my initial claim on March 14th. For that first week, my claim showed 'exceeded earnings' because I had some final hours to report - no surprise there. But I'm confused about my second weekly claim that I submitted on Sunday night. It's been showing 'Processing-Web' status for over 48 hours now, even though when I hover over that status it says it should only take 'up to 48 hours.' I've never applied for unemployment before so I don't know if this is normal or if something's wrong with my claim. Should I be worried? Do I need to call ESD? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Don't worry too much yet. Those 'up to 48 hours' timelines aren't always accurate, especially if you're a first-time claimant. New claims often take a bit longer because ESD's system is doing verification checks on your identity and employment history. I'd give it until at least Friday before getting concerned. If it still says 'Processing-Web' by Monday, then you might want to contact them.

Thank you, that's reassuring! Is there anything I should be doing in the meantime? I'm worried if I miss something important my benefits will be delayed even longer.

That's good to hear it eventually went through for you. Did you get any kind of notification when it changed, or did you just have to keep checking the website?

What you're experiencing is actually quite common with first-time unemployment claims. The ESD system has several verification stages your initial claim goes through:\n\n1. Initial processing (the 'Processing-Web' status)\n2. Identity verification \n3. Employment history verification\n4. Monetary eligibility determination\n\nThe 48-hour guideline is just that - a guideline. It often takes 3-5 business days for new claims to move from 'Processing-Web' to the next status. As long as you continue filing your weekly claims on time (every week between Sunday and Saturday), you'll be paid for all eligible weeks once your claim is fully processed.\n\nOne important thing to check: make sure your identity verification is complete. Log into your account and see if there's any alert about needing to verify your identity. Sometimes that step gets stuck without notification.

I had EXACTLY the same problem in January when I got laid off from construction work due to the weather. My first claim went through fine but then my second weekly claim got stuck on

Thank you for sharing that resource! I'll definitely keep it in mind if I can't get this resolved by early next week. Did you have to provide any special information when you finally reached someone?

One more thing to check - did you answer \

I did answer yes to changing my address because I moved apartments last month, but everything else was answered no. And I definitely reported my 3 job search activities. Maybe the address change is causing the delay?

Thank you for the detailed advice! I've checked my eServices inbox and I don't see any monetary determination letter yet. I'll try calling tomorrow morning as soon as they open if the status hasn't changed by then.

I've been refreshing pretty regularly throughout the day, using both my phone and laptop just to be sure. Still stuck on the same status unfortunately.

Good news is that even if there is a delay in processing, you'll still receive all the benefits you're entitled to, including for the weeks when your claim was processing. As long as you keep filing your weekly claims on time (even while the first one is still processing), you won't lose any eligible benefits.\n\nAnd just to set expectations - your first payment will likely be delayed compared to future payments. Once your claim is fully established in the system, weekly claims typically process much faster. Many people see their weekly claims move from submission to paid status within 48-72 hours after the initial claim is fully processed.
