ESD showing 'Processing - Web' status for waiting week after opening new claim - normal or delay?
I reopened my unemployment claim last week after a 3-month break (was working a temp job that ended). I filed my first weekly claim on Sunday, and it's showing as 'Processing - Web' for my waiting week, which seems odd. Usually the waiting week processes faster than this. It's been 5 days now with no change in status.\n\nHas anyone else noticed delays with ESD processing new or reopened claims recently? Is this normal in 2025 or should I be concerned? My bills are coming due next week and I'm getting worried this might drag on for weeks. The last time I collected unemployment (in 2024), my waiting week was processed within 48 hours.

2 weeks?! That's really concerning. Have you tried calling them? I'm wondering if there's a system glitch or if they're just backed up.

This is fairly normal right now. ESD implemented a new claim processing system in January 2025 and there have been some delays as they work through the transition. Most claims with no issues are taking 7-10 days to process, even waiting weeks. If you hit the two-week mark and it's still showing as 'Processing - Web', then I would reach out to them.\n\nAlso, make sure you've completed ALL your eligibility reviews if they've assigned any. Those can silently hold up your claim and the notifications don't always come through clearly.

Thank you for the info! I didn't realize they had a new system. I'll check for eligibility reviews right now - is that something I'd see in my eServices account?

Yes, log into eServices, then go to your dashboard and look for the 'Pending Issues' section. Any eligibility reviews or questionnaires will show up there. Sometimes they hide at the bottom of the page too, so scroll all the way down.

I HATE the new system!!! Been trying to get someone on the phone for THREE WEEKS because my claim is stuck in the same status. Keep getting the 'high call volume' message and disconnected. Finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual ESD agent yesterday. The agent told me there's a huge backlog due to the system changeover and they're working through claims in order received.\n\nThey have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nThe agent was able to push my waiting week through manually once I got on the phone with her. Worth a try if you're in a rush.

It worked for me! Got through to an actual person in about 20 minutes after trying for weeks on my own. The agent explained that some claims are getting stuck in the processing queue because of the new system update.

Just a quick note - make sure you're completing your three job search activities each week and documenting them properly even while your claim is processing. I've seen people get denied retroactively because they thought they didn't need to do job search requirements during the waiting week or while their claim was in processing status.\n\nThe job search requirements apply from week one, regardless of payment status. You don't want to get your claim approved and then immediately disqualified for a job search issue.

Oh! That's a really good point. I did my job search activities but I wasn't being as detailed in my documentation as I probably should be. Going to fix that right now. Thank you!

Anyone know if we're supposed to call if it's stuck on Processing or just wait? Different people tell me different things and I can't tell what's adjudication vs processing anymore. My friend said I need to be in adjudication first before getting paid but that's not what my last claim was like.\n\nI'm on week 3 of waiting and there's NO ISSUES listed on my account. Just perpetual

Processing and adjudication are different things:\n\n- Processing = ESD is reviewing your basic claim details and weekly certification\n- Adjudication = There's a specific issue that needs human review\n\nIf you're showing just \

UPDATE on my situation: After getting through to ESD, they told me there was a flag on my account because my reported wages didn't match what my employer reported for the last quarter. The frustrating thing is this wasn't showing as an \

Thanks for sharing this update. That's pretty concerning that issues can exist without showing up in our accounts. I'm going to give mine another few days and then try to reach someone if it's still stuck.

idk why everyone is so worried lol. the waiting week means you dont get paid for that week anyway, so who cares if its processing? as long as your next week pays out youre fine

That's not quite accurate. If the waiting week is stuck in processing, it often means subsequent weeks will also get held up. The waiting week needs to be processed (even though it's not paid) before regular benefit weeks can be approved and paid. So it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
