ESD claim shows PAID status but money not in my account - missing routing info problem
I'm going crazy trying to figure out why my unemployment payments aren't showing up in my bank account! My ESD account has been showing 'PAID' status for two weeks, but I haven't received a dime. After hours of digging through my eServices account, I finally discovered the problem - my banking information wasn't complete! Apparently they need both account AND routing numbers (which seems obvious now, but the system never flagged this as an issue). I've now added my routing number, but does anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit my account once this information is corrected? Will they automatically process the backpay that shows as 'PAID' or do I need to call them? Trying to avoid the phone nightmare if possible but rent is due next week...

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you fix the banking info. The system should automatically send ur back payments. It happened to me last spring and I got everything in one big deposit.

•Thank you! That's a relief. Did you get any kind of confirmation email or notification that the deposit was coming?

The ESD direct deposit system typically processes within 48-72 business hours after banking information is corrected. Since your claims already show PAID status, the system should automatically reprocess those payments without you needing to call. However, if you don't see the funds by the end of next week, you might need to contact ESD directly. The payments won't change status in eServices - they'll still show as PAID even before they reach your account, so you'll need to check your bank account directly.

•This is WHY the ESD system is so frustrating!!! Why would it say PAID if the money isn't actually paid?? And why wouldn't it TELL YOU there's missing bank info instead of just silently failing? The whole system is designed to make people give up on benefits they deserve!

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'll wait until next Friday before panicking. You're right - it's frustrating that there's no clear indicator in the system that something was wrong with my banking info.

If it's been more than 3 business days since updating your routing number, I'd recommend calling ESD to confirm they have everything they need. I know calling is a nightmare (I spent 6 weeks trying to get through for my adjudication issue), but I found a service called Claimyr that actually works! It got me through to an ESD agent in about 30 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 For banking issues like yours, getting official confirmation can save weeks of stress wondering if the money is coming.

When my husbands claim had this exact same problem in January ESD actually sent the payments to a DEBIT CARD even though we had entered the banking info (just missed the routing #). Check if they mailed you a ReliaCard - took us ages to figure that out! The ESD phone agents never mentioned it!

•Oh no, I hope that's not what happened in my case! I'll check the mail more carefully. I definitely don't remember choosing a debit card option though.

•We didn't choose it either! It's their default when direct deposit info is incomplete. But if you just fixed your banking info you're probably fine - just sharing what happened to us.

Having processed hundreds of UI claims, I can tell you that corrected banking information is typically processed within 2-3 business days, but it can occasionally take up to 5 business days depending on your bank and when you made the correction. Since your claims already show as PAID, they'll be transferred as soon as the system processes the new routing information. A couple things to note: 1. The date it shows as "paid" is when ESD approved it, not when it will arrive in your account 2. All backpayments will process together once your banking info is corrected 3. If you made the correction on a Friday or weekend, processing won't start until the next business day You won't see any status change in eServices - it will continue to show PAID (which means approved for payment, not actually deposited).

•This is super helpful, thank you! I updated my info on Tuesday so hopefully that means I'll see something by tomorrow or Monday. It's really confusing that "PAID" doesn't actually mean paid...

WHY DOES ESD MAKE EVERYTHING SO COMPLICATED?!!!! I had this EXACT same issue and had to call 67 TIMES before someone would help me! Their system is DESIGNED to make people give up on getting their benefits! The fact that it just silently fails without telling you there's missing information is criminal negligence!!

•Right?? Same thing happened to my cousin. She almost got evicted waiting for money that was "PAID" but never arrived. ESD is the worst.

I had a similar issue but mine was because I had the wrong account number not routing number. They ended up sending paper checks instead for like a month before I figured it out. Maybe check your mail?

•I'll definitely check my mail more carefully now! Though I'm pretty sure my account number was correct, just missing the routing number.
