ESD claim showing 'processing web' after adjudication with no approval letter - what does this mean?
I filed for unemployment benefits right before the holidays (Dec 18) and my claim was under adjudication for several weeks. Last Saturday I logged in and noticed I suddenly had two weekly claims available to file, which I did. Now my account just shows 'processing web' status but there's absolutely nothing else - no pending issues section, no tasks showing they need additional info from me, and no approval letter in my notices. Is this a good sign that they're going to approve me or are they still deciding if I'm eligible? I'm really confused about why they'd let me file weekly claims if they haven't approved me yet? Has anyone else seen the 'processing web' status and know what it means? My rent is due next week and I'm starting to panic a little. Thanks for any insight!

The fact that they allowed you to file weekly claims is typically a good sign. 'Processing web' usually means they're processing your weekly claims after you submitted them. It's common to not receive an approval letter immediately - sometimes they just start paying benefits without sending formal notification first, especially if they're backed up. Check your account again in 2-3 business days. If it shows 'paid' instead of 'processing' and there's a payment date listed, you should receive funds shortly after. This timing depends on your payment method (direct deposit is faster than debit card).

•That's reassuring, thank you! Do you know if they typically backdate payments to when I first applied in December? Or will I just get paid for the two weeks I was able to file for?

•That's such a relief to hear! Did you have to keep filing weekly claims while it said 'processing web' or did you wait until that changed?

Processing web is MEANINGLESS honestly. I've had it say that for weeks and still get denied or it says that for a day and then pays out. The system is broken. My theory is nobody at ESD even knows what half the statuses mean. They never tell you anything clearly and expect you to just figure it out.

•While the system definitely has issues, 'processing web' does have a specific meaning - it indicates that your weekly claim was received through the web system and is being processed. It's a temporary status that should change within 72 hours in most cases. If it stays in that status for more than a week, then there might be an issue worth calling about.

I had the exact same experience but mine was for a temporary layoff at my construction job. When I was able to file weekly claims before getting an actual approval I was confused too! But it worked out fine in the end. Just keep filing your weekly claims even if it still says processing. Good luck!

This is actually a fairly common scenario with ESD. The ability to file weekly claims doesn't guarantee approval, but it's generally a positive indicator. Here's what's likely happening: 1. Your initial eligibility is being determined (the adjudication phase) 2. While that's happening, they're letting you file weekly claims so that IF you're approved, they can quickly pay those weeks 3. The 'processing web' status means those weekly claims are being held pending the adjudication decision If your adjudication resolves positively, those weekly claims will process through to payment. If your application is denied, they'll simply stay in the system but won't be paid. My advice: Keep filing your weekly claims every week, even while waiting. If you haven't heard anything in another week, you should try contacting ESD directly, though that can be challenging with their call volumes.

•That makes perfect sense - thank you for the detailed explanation! I've been trying to call them all morning but can't get through. Is there any other way to contact them that actually works?

I struggled getting through to ESD for WEEKS during my adjudication. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that gets you through the ESD phone queue without having to redial hundreds of times. Saved my sanity! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through to an actual agent, they were able to tell me exactly what was happening with my claim and gave me an estimated timeline. The agent even pushed my claim through to the next step while I was on the phone.

•This sounds like exactly what I need! I'll check it out - thanks for the suggestion. Did you find out anything surprising when you finally got through to them? I'm worried there might be something missing from my application that's causing the delay.

•Actually yes! Turns out they needed verification from my previous employer who hadn't responded to their requests. The ESD agent was able to make notes on my file and escalate it. Sometimes there are simple issues that can be resolved quickly once you actually talk to someone. Hope it helps!

KEEP FILING YOUR WEEKLY CLAIMS no matter what!!!!! I didn't file for two weeks because I was confused about the status and ended up losing those weeks forever. Even if they haven't formally approved you yet you MUST keep filing every single week or you will not get paid for those weeks even if you're eventually approved.

•Oh wow, I didn't realize that! Thank you for the warning - I'll definitely keep filing regardless of what the status shows.

•I worked in hospitality - restaurant management. Was laid off when they decided to close for renovations but then told us they're just staying closed permanently. Maybe that's why mine is taking longer to review?

•That could definitely be a factor. Business closures often require additional verification since the employer might not be actively responding to ESD inquiries. In these cases, ESD may need to do additional research to verify the circumstances, which can extend the adjudication timeline.

Quick update on what you should expect timing-wise: If your weekly claims process successfully, payment usually occurs 2 business days after the status changes from 'processing' to 'paid'. For direct deposit, funds typically appear 1-2 business days after the payment date shown in your ESD account. For the debit card option, it can take 2-3 additional business days. Regarding backdating: If your initial application date was in December, and you're approved, you should be able to file for all eligible weeks since then, not just the two most recent weeks. Look for an option to file for previous weeks once your claim is approved.

•Thank you! I opted for direct deposit so hopefully that speeds things up a bit. I'll keep an eye out for the option to backdate once it's approved.
