Does Washington ESD email you about unemployment claim updates?
I'm wondering if Washington ESD sends email notifications for unemployment claim updates? I filed my initial claim two weeks ago and haven't heard anything except the confirmation number. Should I expect emails about my claim status, adjudication updates, or approval/denial? I'm checking my spam folder daily but nothing from ESD. Is this normal or should I be worried that something went wrong with my application?

Washington ESD does send some emails but not for everything. You'll get emails for important stuff like if your claim needs additional information or if there's an overpayment issue. For regular claim status updates you usually have to check your account on their website.

•Thanks! So I should still be checking the website regularly even if I'm not getting emails?

•Yes definitely. The website is more reliable for status updates than waiting for emails.

I got emails when my claim went into adjudication and when it was approved, but nothing during the initial processing phase. Two weeks is pretty normal for the first response.

•That's reassuring to know it's normal. How long did your adjudication take?

•About 3 weeks total but this was last year so might be different now.

The email system is pretty inconsistent tbh. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. I've had claims where I got emails for every little thing and others where I heard nothing until final approval. If you're really worried about missing important updates, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you actually get through to ESD agents on the phone - way more reliable than waiting for emails. Check out claimyr.com, they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of Claimyr before. Is it legit or one of those scam services?

•It's legit, they just help you get through the phone queue. I used it when my claim got stuck and couldn't get anyone on the phone for weeks.

•How much does something like that cost though?

•They focus on the value of actually reaching someone rather than costs. Worth checking out if you're stuck waiting.

Make sure to check your ESD account settings to confirm your email is correct and notifications are turned on. I missed important emails because my settings got changed somehow.

•Good point, I'll double check my notification settings tonight.

•Where do you find the notification settings? I can never find anything on their website.

•Login to your ESD account, go to Profile, then Communication Preferences. It's buried pretty deep.

ugh the ESD email system is TERRIBLE. I've been waiting 4 weeks for ANY communication and nothing. Called probably 200 times and can't get through. This whole system is broken.

•Same boat here. Filed in December and still nothing but radio silence.

•This is exactly why I mentioned Claimyr earlier - saves you from making hundreds of calls yourself.

•At this point I'm willing to try anything. Thanks for the suggestion.

They definitely email for adjudication issues and appeals. Got multiple emails when they needed documentation from my former employer. But for routine stuff like weekly claim confirmations, those usually don't come via email.

•Good to know they email for important stuff. I guess no news is good news right now.

•Pretty much. If there was a problem you'd definitely hear about it.

Just FYI the emails come from noreply@esd.wa.gov so make sure that's not blocked or going to spam. I almost missed an important appeal deadline because it went to my junk folder.

•Thanks for the email address! I'll add it to my safe senders list.

•Good tip. I'll check that too since I haven't gotten anything either.

•Yeah definitely whitelist that address. ESD emails are critical when they do send them.

Two weeks with no communication is actually pretty standard for initial claims. I work in HR and deal with unemployment stuff regularly - most people don't hear anything until week 3-4 unless there's an issue.

•That's really helpful perspective from someone who sees this professionally. Thank you!

I never got emails but I did get text messages for some updates. Did you sign up for SMS notifications when you filed?

Dmitry Smirnov
•I don't remember seeing an option for text messages. Where do you set that up?

•It's in the same communication preferences section someone mentioned earlier. Under phone notifications.

honestly the whole communication thing with ESD is hit or miss. sometimes you get bombarded with emails, sometimes nothing. i gave up trying to figure out their system and just check the website every few days

•At least the website is usually up to date even if the emails aren't reliable.

Pro tip: if you do get an email from ESD, screenshot it immediately. I've had emails disappear from my inbox and had to prove I received certain notifications during an appeal.

Update your post when you finally hear something! I'm in the same waiting period and curious how long it really takes these days.

The lack of communication from ESD is one of the most stressful parts of unemployment. You're basically in limbo wondering if your paperwork got lost or if everything's processing normally. At least now with services like Claimyr you can actually talk to someone when you need answers instead of just waiting and wondering.

Just wanted to add that if you do eventually get put into adjudication, THAT'S when you'll start getting more regular email updates. The initial processing phase is mostly silent unless there's a problem.

•Adjudication isn't necessarily bad, sometimes it's just routine verification stuff.

I'm in week 3 of waiting after filing my initial claim and this thread is really reassuring! I was starting to panic that something went wrong since I haven't received any emails either. Sounds like the general consensus is that no news is good news during the initial processing phase. I've been checking my account on the ESD website daily and my claim status still just says "processing" but at least now I know that's normal. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it helps to know I'm not the only one dealing with the communication blackout from ESD!
