Desperate for ESD claim stuck 6 weeks - need Governor's office contact number

I'm seriously about to lose it. My unemployment claim has been pending for SIX WEEKS with zero movement. I've called ESD literally 47 times (yes I kept count) and either get disconnected or wait 3+ hours only to be told they "can't help" with my adjudication. My electricity is about to be shut off, I got a 3-day pay or vacate from my landlord yesterday, and I'm completely out of options. Someone at WorkSource mentioned there's a number for the Governor's office that can help push stuck claims through? Does anyone have this number or know if this actually works? I've tried the regular ESD appeals process but they said I can't appeal until there's an actual decision, which is exactly my problem - there IS no decision after 6 weeks! Any help would save my sanity right now.

The Governor's Office does have a constituent services line at 360-902-4111, but I don't think that's your best option for getting quick help. Your situation sounds serious enough that you need immediate intervention. Have you tried contacting your state representative? Many have staff dedicated to helping with ESD issues. Go to leg.wa.gov and enter your address to find your district representatives. Their offices can often get faster responses than going through the governor's office.

Thank you!!! I'm going to try both routes honestly. Do I just call the rep's office and explain my situation? Do I need to bring any documents or claim numbers when I call?

I was in almost the EXACT same situation last month!!! 7 weeks with no movement on my claim & about to be evicted. Calling ESD is USELESS. I tried the governor's office number but got nowhere. What FINALLY worked was using Claimyr to get through to a real ESD agent (claimyr.com). It costs money but it was worth it for me cuz they got me connected to an actual tier 2 specialist who found the issue (missing employer response) and pushed my claim through manually. Got paid 3 days later. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

Has anyone else tried this Claimyr thing? Seems sketch to pay money to talk to a government agency we should be able to reach normally. But at this point I'd try ANYTHING to get my claim unstuck.

I used it last week after 3 weeks of trying to call ESD myself. Got through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They couldn't fix my issue immediately but at least added notes to my file and told me exactly what was causing the hold-up (some employer protest I didn't know about). Better than the nothing I was getting before.

While contacting your representatives can help, you also need immediate action for your housing situation. Call 2-1-1 right away to get connected with emergency rent assistance programs. Many counties have programs specifically for people waiting on unemployment benefits. Also, your utility companies may have hardship programs - call them directly and explain your situation before disconnection happens. For your ESD claim specifically: Does your online account show any "Issues and Decisions" pending? Sometimes there's a specific document they need that you can upload through the portal. Have you checked all messages in your eServices account?

Omg thank you!! YES there are 3 "Issues" showing but when I click on them there's no information about what they need from me! One says "Able and Available" and the others are about "Job Separation" - but I've already submitted everything about my layoff. So frustrating! I'll definitely call 211 right now, I didn't even think about that option.

the govs office wont do anything lol. i waited 10 weeks last year and kept calling and they just kept saying "BE PATIENT" like ok tell that to my landlord!! the whole system is designed to make ppl give up. i finally got through on the phone after calling at EXACTLY 8:00:00 am and hitting redial for 45 mins straight. even then the rep was totally unhelpful just read from a script saying adjudication takes time blah blah blah. its all bs

Same experience! ESD has gotten worse every year. I worked there in 2018 and quit because the management was so bad. They don't train the phone agents properly and the good ones leave because pay is terrible. The people who ACTUALLY can fix claims (adjudicators) never answer phones.

I'm really sorry you're dealing with this. One thing you absolutely need to do - keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the main claim decision! So many people miss this step and then have to start all over. Also, have you tried the technical support line instead of the regular line? Sometimes they can see things the regular agents can't, and the wait time is usually shorter. The number is 855-682-0785. Ask them specifically about those pending issues in your account.

Yes I've been filing every single week without fail! I didn't know about the technical support line though, I'll try that tomorrow morning. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved.

Hate to say this, but ESD is seriously broken. I had a similar issue last year and what FINALLY worked was contacting my state senator's office. I'm in the 38th district and their office had a dedicated person who handles ESD issues. They asked for my claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and a signed release form they emailed me. My claim was fixed within 5 days after 2 months of nothing. The state rep route works WAY better than the governor's office in my experience.

This 100%!! The state senator/rep route is the "secret" way to get claims unstuck. They won't advertise this because they don't want everyone doing it, but it works so much better than any official channel.

have you tried going to a WorkSource office in person? my cousin did that and they have these special phones that connect directly to ESD people who actually know what theyre doing, not the regular call center. worth a shot maybe?

I went to WorkSource last week and they said they couldn't help with claims in adjudication :( The person there was super nice but basically told me I just had to wait or keep calling. I'll try going to a different WorkSource office though, maybe each one has different resources?

Different WorkSource offices definitely have different resources. The ones in larger cities tend to have more direct connections. If you're willing to drive a bit, the Seattle downtown office and Tacoma office typically have more resources for complex cases.

Quick update on the specific issues you mentioned seeing in your account: "Able and Available" usually means they need to verify you're able to work and available for work during your claim period. This is often triggered if you reported being sick, on vacation, or unable to work for any reason during a weekly claim. "Job Separation" issues usually mean they need more details about why your employment ended. Your employer may have provided information that doesn't match what you reported. If you can see these issues but no instructions for resolving them, it likely means they're waiting for information from your employer or they're preparing to interview you. Call the main line and specifically ask for a Tier 2 specialist who can see the details of these issues. Regular agents often can't see or explain these pending issues.

Thank you for explaining this! I did mention being sick for 2 days on one of my weekly claims (I had the flu), but I was available to work the other days. For the separation, I was laid off with 20 other people when our company lost a contract. I have the layoff letter but nobody has asked me to upload it. I'll definitely ask for a Tier 2 specialist next time I call.

Ok so everyones giving good advice but missing the MOST IMPORTANT THING - with a 3 day pay or vacate notice, you need to respond IMMEDIATELY with a written notice that you're waiting on unemployment. Washington state has tenant protections that can buy you time. Go to washingtonlawhelp.org right now and look up the eviction defense forms. Just filling that out can buy you an extra 2-3 weeks legally. For your utilities, call and ask for their hardship program ASAP - most have to offer payment plans before disconnection.

THANK YOU!! I had no idea about this! Going to that website right now. My landlord has been somewhat understanding but said his hands are tied because he has his own mortgage to pay. I'll check on the utility hardship programs too - I just got overwhelmed and didn't know where to start with everything falling apart at once.
