6 weeks in ESD adjudication - do I need to call governor's office or wait longer?
I'm getting really stressed about my unemployment claim. It's been sitting in adjudication for SIX WEEKS now with absolutely zero movement. I keep seeing posts about people calling the governor's office to speed things up, but I'm wondering if anyone has actually had their claim process normally without taking that step? How long should adjudication actually take if I just let the system run its course? I've already burned through most of my savings and my landlord is starting to get impatient. The ESD phone lines are impossible - I've called over 30 times and either get disconnected or told the wait is 4+ hours. Getting desperate but not sure if calling the governor is overkill or actually necessary at this point.

My claim was in adjudication for 9 weeks before it finally got resolved without calling the governor. BUT I did reach an actual ESD agent who told me my claim needed one more document that wasn't showing as missing on my account! So frustrating. The system is totally broken - it might eventually process but there could be some hidden issue holding you up that you can't even see.

•9 weeks?! That's even worse than what I'm dealing with. Did the agent explain why it took so long? Was there anything specific you did that finally got them to look at your claim?

At six weeks, you're unfortunately still within "normal" processing time for adjudication these days. ESD is severely backlogged. However, there are some things you can do to potentially speed things up: 1. Check your ESD account for any alerts or document requests you might have missed 2. Make sure all your weekly claims are still being filed consistently 3. Look for any correspondence in your ESD message center that might need a response 4. Try contacting your state representative (slightly less extreme than governor) The governor's office can help, but they typically prioritize the most severe hardship cases or claims that have been stuck for 8+ weeks.

•Thanks for the advice. I've triple-checked my account and message center - there's nothing waiting for my response. I'm still filing my weekly claims religiously. I'll look into contacting my state rep instead of jumping straight to the governor's office.

•3 MONTHS?? That's insane! Did you eventually get all your back payments at least?

I've tried calling esd like 50 times over the past week and CANNOT get through. Finally I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) yesterday and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They found out my adjudication was delayed because my employer disputed my hours worked!! Nothing was showing on my online account at all. They said they're sending it to a supervisor for review now. Check out their video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zGms-DODN3 Worth it to actually talk to a real person at ESD and find out what's causing your delay.

•is this legit? seems sketchy to pay someone just to call unemployment for you???

•Yeah it's legit. They don't call for you - they get you a callback from ESD directly. They just help you skip the phone queue somehow. The ESD agent calls YOU directly and you talk to them yourself.

I worked as an ESD claims specialist for three years. Six weeks in adjudication is unfortunately within normal timeframes right now. Here's what's likely happening: 1) Your claim has a specific issue flag (separation reason, availability, etc.) that requires adjudication 2) Adjudicators are handling claims in roughly chronological order, but certain issue types take priority 3) The system won't tell you specifically what's being adjudicated to prevent fraudulent workarounds While contacting the governor's office can help, it primarily just flags your claim for expedited review. If you're experiencing true financial hardship (eviction risk, utility shutoffs), you can request hardship prioritization directly with ESD. This is actually more effective than the governor route in many cases. Make sure you continue filing weekly claims during this waiting period - those will be retroactively processed once adjudication completes.

•Thank you so much for the insider perspective! This is really helpful. I am facing potential eviction if this goes on much longer, so I'll definitely look into the hardship prioritization. Is there a specific way to request that, or do I just need to get through to an agent?

I called the governors office after 5 weeks because i literally couldnt pay my mortgage anymore!!! They took my info and ESD called me NEXT DAY. Got my first payment 2 days after that. Prior to that i left a billion messages with ESD and no one EVER called back. The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN. Call the governors office NOW, dont wait!!!

•Wow, that's a dramatic difference in response time! I'm getting close to that same breaking point with bills. Did you just call the main governor's office line or is there a specific department that handles ESD issues?

Anyone else notice that it feels totally random who gets stuck in adjudication? My coworker and I got laid off same day, same reason, and his claim was approved in 10 days while mine took 7 weeks! No explanation whatsoever for the difference.

•yep totally random. system probably picks who to torture based on the phase of the moon or something lol

Update from my earlier comment - I just wanted to add that if you do have a true hardship situation (eviction risk, utility shutoffs, inability to afford medications), you should specifically mention that when contacting your state representative or the governor's office. They prioritize based on severity of need. Also, check your "Uploaded Documents" section in your ESD account. Sometimes they request documentation but the alert doesn't show properly in the main dashboard.

•Just checked my uploaded documents section and everything looks good there. No pending requests. I'm going to try both approaches - request hardship prioritization directly with ESD if I can ever get through, and also contact my state rep explaining my housing situation. Thanks again for the detailed advice.

In response to your question about the hardship prioritization process - you need to speak with an ESD agent to have this flagged on your account. Explain your specific hardship (potential eviction, utility shutoff notices, etc.) and ask them to note it in your file and flag it for expedited review. The most efficient way to get this done is to call right when they open at 8:00 AM. The best days to call are Tuesday through Thursday as Mondays and Fridays tend to have the highest call volumes.

•Thank you! I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow (Tuesday). Hoping I can get through to someone who can help flag my account for hardship review.
