Called governor's office about stuck ESD claim - what info to prepare?
After 8 weeks of hearing nothing on my unemployment claim, I'm seriously considering calling the governor's office as a last resort (saw several people mention this worked for them). But I'm honestly a bit intimidated about making this call. For those who've actually done this, what specific information should I have ready? Do they ask for particular claim details? Is there a specific request process? I'm worried about calling unprepared and wasting this opportunity. Any insights from folks who've gone this route would really help calm my nerves. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience!

I called the governor's office last month when my claim was stuck in adjudication limbo for 10 weeks. Have these things ready: 1. Your full name and contact info 2. ESD claim ID number 3. The exact dates you filed and when issues started 4. A list of all attempts you've made to contact ESD with dates 5. Any adjudicator names you've spoken with 6. Clear explanation of your issue (keep it brief but complete) They were surprisingly helpful and took all my info. They created a case file and contacted ESD on my behalf. Got a call from an ESD supervisor within 3 business days and my claim was resolved by the end of the week. Be polite but firm about your financial hardship.

•Thank you SO much for this detailed response! This is exactly what I needed. Did they ask why you were contacting the governor instead of going through normal channels? I'm worried they'll just tell me to keep waiting.

•This can definitely vary by region and current case volumes. If the governor's office doesn't help, contacting your state representative as suggested is an excellent alternative. They often have dedicated constituent services staff who specifically handle ESD issues. I've seen many claims get unstuck this way.

When I called last summer, they mainly wanted to know what I'd already tried. Have you sent messages through the ESD portal? How many times have you called? Have you tried the technical support line instead of the claims line? They're looking to make sure you've exhausted normal channels first. They also asked about financial hardship - be prepared to briefly explain your situation (bills due, risk of eviction, etc). Good luck!

•Yes, I've tried everything! 23 calls to the main line (always disconnected), 9 messages through the portal (no response), and even tried the technical line who just transferred me back to the main queue. I'll make sure to document all these attempts with dates. Thank you!

I was in your exact situation about 6 weeks ago. My claim was stuck in adjudication since January with ZERO communication from ESD. I was hesitant to call the governor's office too, but it was honestly the best decision I made! Before you call, I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) first to actually reach an ESD agent directly. I found this service after weeks of getting disconnected, and they got me through to an actual human at ESD within 25 minutes - here's their demo video: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The reason I suggest trying this first is that when I called the governor's office, they specifically asked if I had been able to speak with an ESD agent at all. When I told them I finally got through using Claimyr but the agent couldn't help with adjudication, it strengthened my case that I had truly tried everything.

•Has anyone else tried this Claimyr thing? Seems fishy to pay just to talk to a government agency we should be able to reach anyway... but I'm getting desperate after 3 months of nothing.

•I used it last week after being disconnected 17 times in 3 days. Got through in about 30 mins. Had to swallow my pride to pay for it but honestly worth it to finally talk to someone. They can't make adjudication go faster but at least I found out what was holding up my claim.

I work with unemployment appeals, and I'd suggest one additional preparation step: have a very clear, specific "ask" ready. The governor's office works best when you have a concrete request rather than a general complaint. For example: - "I need someone to review my adjudication that's been pending for 8 weeks" - "I need to speak with a tier 3 specialist about my identity verification issue" - "I need my claim to be assigned to an adjudicator as it's been in queue since [date]" Also, be prepared to explain your financial hardship situation specifically. Are you facing eviction? Unable to afford medications? Behind on utilities? This helps prioritize your case.

•This is extremely helpful advice. My specific request would be "I need my claim to be assigned to an adjudicator as it's been pending initial review since March 11th, 2025." I'll also mention that I'm two months behind on rent and my landlord is getting impatient. Thank you!

They gonna ask why you callin THEM instead of ESD lol!! But seriously my cousin works for the state (not ESD) and says they cant do nothing for you unless you got your claim ID, the exact date you applied, and proof you already tried contacting ESD multiple times. They gotta document everything so dont call til you got all your dates and stuff organized

One more tip - when you call, ask for the name and contact information of the person you're speaking with at the governor's office. Then follow up with an email summarizing your conversation and thanking them for their help. This creates a paper trail and shows you're serious. I did this and included all my documentation as attachments (screenshots of my ESD account status, my call log showing all my attempt to reach ESD, etc.). The email follow-up seemed to really help move things along.

•Smart approach! I'll definitely do this. I've been taking screenshots of all my attempts to contact ESD through the portal too, so I have those ready to send as well.

OMG I had to call Gov Inslee's office TWICE and lemme tell you the second call was totally different than the first!! First time they were like "we'll look into it" and nothing happened for 3 weeks. Second time I called I mentioned I was working with a JOURNALIST about ESD problems (total bluff lol) and BOOM got a call from ESD leadership team the next day!! Sometimes you gotta get a little creative 😂

•This made me laugh but honestly... whatever works! The system is so broken right now. I waited 16 weeks for my claim to process last year. Had to borrow money from family just to survive. It shouldn't take these extreme measures just to get someone to look at your claim.
