Called Governor's office about stuck ESD claim - what happens after referral?
So I finally got fed up with waiting on my unemployment claim that's been sitting for almost 6 weeks with no updates. I called the Governor's office this morning as a last resort! The person I spoke with asked for my claim ID number, current claim status, and my email address. They told me they submitted a 'referral' to the Unemployment department about my claim. Has anyone gone this route before? What actually happens after they submit this referral? Does ESD actually respond or is this just another dead end? My rent is due next week and I'm getting desperate. Thanks for any insight! 😊

i did this exact thing last yr when my claim got stuck for 2 months. they send ur info to some special team at ESD that handles these referrals. took about 10 days but someone finally called me and fixed everything right there on the phone! definitely better than waiting forever!!

•Oh that's so good to hear! 10 days would be way better than continuing to wait with no end in sight. Did they tell you what was wrong with your claim when they called?

The Governor's office referral process can be effective for cases that have fallen through the cracks. Once they submit your information, it typically goes to what's called the Executive Review Team at ESD. They prioritize these cases because they've been escalated through the Governor's office. In my experience helping claimants, you should receive some form of contact within 7-14 business days, though it varies with their current workload. Make sure your contact information in your ESD account is up-to-date so they can reach you.

•THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE!!! I had a referral sent in TWICE and they never called me. I ended up having to file an appeal after 3 months of waiting. The whole system is broken and they dont care about us!!!

While waiting for the referral, have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent? It saved me so much time when my claim was stuck in adjudication. The service connects you with an ESD agent without having to wait on hold forever. Check out their site claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 showing how it works. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked and got my issue resolved in one call.

•I've never heard of this service before. Has anyone else used it? I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point since the regular phone line just disconnects me after saying they're too busy.

The Governor's office referral process is actually quite effective. When they submit a referral, it creates a ticket in ESD's escalation system that's flagged as a Governor's inquiry, which gets prioritized. Here's what typically happens: 1. The referral is assigned to a specialized team (often within 48-72 hours) 2. They'll review your claim file and identify any issues 3. They'll either call you directly or make the necessary adjustments to your claim 4. If they need additional information, they'll contact you via phone or eServices message Most people see movement within 5-10 business days after a Governor's referral. While waiting, continue filing your weekly claims and check your eServices account daily for messages or status changes.

•Exactley this! My claim was stuck for 9 weeks in adjudication for "able and available" issue after I had surgery. Called govs office and they fixed it in 6 days! Make sure you answer any calls from unfamiliar numbers because ESD often calls from blocked numbers.

I tryed the governors office twice and nothing happened for me. Called and left messages and sent emails. Total waste of time! What worked was contacting my state representative instead. Their office has direct contact with ESD liaison and got my claim fixed in 3 days after being stuck for MONTHS. Google 'WA state find my representative' to get your local rep's contact info.

•Wow, I didn't even think about contacting my state rep! That's a smart backup plan if the Governor's office referral doesn't work out. I'll look mine up right now. Thanks for the suggestion!

•Yes! I've been filing every Sunday without fail. That's good advice though - I've heard horror stories about people having to start over.

Just to follow up on this thread - it's been about 2 weeks since you contacted the Governor's office. Have you received any response or seen any movement on your claim? The typical timeframe would be 7-14 business days for some kind of action.

•Thanks for checking! Actually yes - I got a call yesterday from an ESD specialist! They said there was an employer response verification that was holding up my claim. They fixed it while I was on the phone and said I should see payments within 48 hours. So relieved! The Governor's office referral actually worked.
