Desperate for ESD approval after 6+ weeks - need Governor's contact info

Filed my unemployment claim on Sept 10th and it's just sitting there with no movement. I check eServices every single day and nothing changes. I've called ESD probably 50+ times but either get disconnected or they say 'high call volume' and hang up on me. I'm seriously behind on rent, utilities, and now I'm literally rationing food to get by. This is insane! Does anyone know how to contact the governor's office directly? I heard they can sometimes push claims through when you're in a desperate situation. I worked consistently for 4 years before getting laid off and paid into this system - now when I need help they're nowhere to be found. Any advice or contact info would be greatly appreciated.

While I understand your frustration, contacting the governor probably won't speed things up. Your claim is likely stuck in adjudication. What does your claim status actually show in eServices? Is it 'pending', 'adjudication in progress', or something else? That will help determine next steps. Six weeks is definitely longer than normal for initial processing.

It says 'adjudication in progress' and has for the past 4 weeks. Before that it just said 'pending' for like 2 weeks. I uploaded all my documents right away - ID, pay stubs, everything they asked for. I'm literally about to be evicted.

That's what I'm afraid of... like what else can I do? I've sent everything they've asked for. Did you ever get approved eventually?

I had a similar situation last month! Adjudication was taking forever and I was really struggling financially. I finally got through to an ESD agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that basically calls ESD for you and when they get through, they connect you with an agent. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent I spoke with was able to see that my claim needed one additional verification document they never told me about. I uploaded it and was approved within 3 days. Might be worth trying before contacting elected officials.

Thank you! I'll check out that site now. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Did you have to explain your situation again or did they already have all your info?

They had all my info in their system already. The agent just needed to look deeper into why my claim was stuck. Turns out there was an employer response they were waiting on, but the system never notified me. They sent a follow-up to my employer while I was on the phone.

You can also try emailing your state legislators! That worked for me. They have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agencies like ESD. Find yours here: app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder I emailed all three of mine (2 reps + senator) with my claim ID and brief situation. Someone from one office got back to me in 2 days and had ESD contact me directly the next week.

This is actually good advice. Legislative inquiry often gets faster responses than going through normal channels. Be sure to include your claim ID number, contact information, and a brief explanation of your situation when you email them.

Unfortunately, adjudication timeframes have been increasing recently. Current average is 4-6 weeks, though some cases take longer if there are complex issues or multiple employers involved. A few things to try: 1. Check your Notices/Letters section in eServices to see if they've requested additional information you missed 2. Make sure you've completed your job search activities (3 per week) and documented them properly 3. Contact your WorkSource office directly - sometimes they can check on status or provide emergency resources while you wait 4. If you're facing eviction, call 211 immediately for emergency assistance programs The governor's office will just redirect you back to ESD. Your best bet is getting through to an actual claims specialist who can see what's holding things up.

Thank you for the detailed info. I've done 1-3 already, but I'll definitely call 211 today. I didn't know about that resource. My landlord is being somewhat understanding but has bills to pay too, so that can only last so long.

I went through the EXACT same thing in July. Claim stuck for almost 7 weeks. What finally worked was contacting my state representative (like someone else mentioned). But what I learned afterward was that my claim was flagged for identity verification and they never sent me the notice! So check your spam folder AND your physical mail. Sometimes they send letters but not notices in the portal. So frustrating. Hang in there.

I've been checking mail obsessively and spam folder too. Nothing from them requesting anything else. I'm going to try Claimyr today to see if I can actually talk to someone, and also email my legislators. Will update if anything changes!

Just checking back - any updates? Were you able to reach anyone at ESD or get help from your legislators?

Yes!! Finally got some movement! I used that Claimyr service and actually got through to someone at ESD within an hour. Turns out my former employer disputed my claim saying I quit (I didn't - it was a layoff). The agent expedited my case since I explained my financial situation. Got approved yesterday and backpay should arrive next week. SUCH a relief. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
