Called Governor's Office to expedite adjudication - told to expect call but nothing happened
After 6 weeks of my ESD claim sitting in adjudication, I finally reached out to the Governor's Office to see if they could help speed things up. Someone there took my info and specifically told me to 'answer your phone tomorrow' for a call back from ESD. I made sure to keep my phone with me all day, didn't even shower without it nearby, but never got any call. Does this mean they're ignoring my case? Is this normal or should I be worried? Has anyone else tried contacting the Governor's Office and actually gotten results? I'm getting really desperate - rent is due next week and I literally have $47 in my account.

This happens pretty often unfortunately. The Governor's Office basically just sends an email to ESD asking them to review your case more quickly, but ESD is still overwhelmed with claims in adjudication. I'd recommend calling back the Governor's Office and letting them know you never received the promised call. Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts before they actually prioritize your claim. Also make sure your voicemail is set up properly and not full - ESD often calls from blocked numbers and won't leave a message if they can't get through.

•Thanks for this info! My voicemail is definitely working but I never thought about blocked numbers. I'll try calling the Governor's Office again tomorrow. Do you think I should also try contacting my state representative? I'm getting so frustrated with this whole process.

•3 times?! Oh god, I don't know if I can handle the stress of waiting that long. Did they eventually resolve your claim after you got the call?

Not a bad sign at all - just more ESD disorganization. In my experience, the Governor's Office referrals do work, but rarely on the timeline they promise. When I was stuck in adjudication last year, they told me I'd get a call "tomorrow" but it actually took 4 business days before an ESD specialist called me. But the good news is that once they did call, my claim was fixed within 48 hours and all my back payments were processed immediately. Keep your phone nearby for the next week just in case. If you're desperate to reach ESD directly while waiting, you might want to try Claimyr (claimyr.com). I used their service after 3 weeks of failed calling attempts and they got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 15 minutes. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It was worth it to finally talk to a real person instead of getting disconnected constantly.

•I tried that Claimyr thing and it DID work but the ESD agent I spoke with couldn't do anything for my adjudication anyway. Said it was a special department and regular agents cant touch those claims. WASTE OF TIME!!!!!

•@mightymouse That's not entirely accurate. While regular agents can't complete the adjudication themselves, they CAN add notes to your file that adjudicators see, verify that everything is in order with your claim, and sometimes escalate urgent cases. Getting through to any agent is still helpful if your claim has been stuck for weeks.

When I was waiting for my adjudication to complete last winter, the same thing happened to me with the Governor's Office. They told me to expect a call the next day, but it didn't come for a week. When ESD finally did call, it was from a No Caller ID number at 7:30am! I almost didn't answer because I thought it was a spam call. Make sure you're answering ALL calls right now, even the weird ones.

MY CLAIM WAS STUCK FOR 9 WEEKS!!! Governor's office is just as useless as ESD. They all make promises they don't keep. The whole system is designed to make us give up. Keep calling ESD directly every single day, that's the only thing that worked for me. I had to call 67 times in one day before I got through!!!

•67 calls is definitely excessive and not something everyone can do, especially if they're job searching or have limited phone minutes. There are more efficient ways to reach ESD agents, as I mentioned above. While the system is certainly frustrating, it's not actually "designed to make us give up" - they're just underfunded and understaffed for the claim volume they handle.

I work with unemployment issues frequently, and I can tell you that contacting the Governor's Office can be effective, but there's no guarantee of next-day contact. When they say "answer your phone tomorrow," they're often expressing the best-case scenario. Here are some concrete steps you can take: 1. Contact the Governor's Office again and mention you never received the promised call. 2. Reach out to your state representative and senator - they have constituent services staff who can sometimes move things along faster than the Governor's Office. 3. Make sure your ESD account has no "action required" items that might be holding up your claim. 4. Continue filing your weekly claims while waiting for adjudication to complete. 5. Document all your contact attempts with dates and names for potential appeals if needed. Most importantly, no, not receiving a call doesn't mean your case is being ignored. It's just part of the frustrating process many claimants face during adjudication.

•Thank you so much for this thorough response! I'm definitely going to contact my state rep tomorrow. I didn't even think of that option. And yes, I've been religiously filing my weekly claims even though no money is coming through. Really appreciate the help!

I had almost the exact same situation in January. Governor's office said I'd get a call the next day, and nothing happened. I waited 3 days, then called the Governor's office back. They apologized and escalated again. Got a call from ESD the next morning at 8:15am, and they resolved my adjudication that same day. My advice: be persistent with the Governor's office. They're actually trying to help, but sometimes your request falls through the cracks on the ESD side. Good luck!
