Contacting governor's office about ESD claim - is 6 weeks the rule?

I'm at my wit's end with my ESD claim. It's been sitting in adjudication for almost 5 weeks now and I can't get through to anyone on the phone. Someone at my job said I should contact the governor's office, but they mentioned I need to wait until it's been 6 weeks? Is this actually a rule or just something people say? Has anyone had luck reaching out to the governor's office before the 6-week mark? I've got bills piling up and can't wait much longer.

The 6 weeks thing isn't an official rule, but it's generally when the governor's office starts taking unemployment escalations seriously. They get so many requests that they prioritize the longest-waiting claimants. I reached out at 5 weeks and they helped me, but your results may vary. Make sure you explain your financial hardship situation clearly when you contact them.

Thanks for clarifying! Did you email or call them? And how long after contacting the governor's office did it take for your claim to get resolved?

OMG THE 6 WEEK RULE IS NONSENSE!!!! ESD is required by LAW to process claims within 21 days but they ignore it and nobody holds them accountable!! I waited 9 weeks last year and the governor's office did NOTHING for me. The whole system is broken!!

While it's true that ESD has processing time requirements, the reality is different with their current backlog. There's no need to wait any specific time before contacting the governor's office, but having documentation of your attempts to reach ESD is important. Have you tried sending secure messages through the ESD portal? That creates a paper trail.

Have you tried Claimyr? It helped me get through to ESD after weeks of busy signals. It basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. The website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I was skeptical at first but it worked for me when my claim was stuck in adjudication last month.

I hadn't heard of that before. I'll check it out! I've been trying to call for two weeks straight with no luck. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

i waited 4 weeks then emailed my state representative instead of govnr office, got my claim fixed in 3 days. worth a try

This is actually really good advice. Your state representatives often have dedicated staff who handle constituent services, including unemployment issues. They can sometimes get results faster than going through the governor's office. I recommend reaching out to both your representative and senator. Include your claim ID, the date you filed, and a brief explanation of your situation.

When I was waiting for my claim last winter, I contacted the governor after 4 weeks and they just sent me a form email saying to be patient. Then at 7 weeks I contacted again and suddenly my claim was fixed in 2 days! So maybe the 6 week thing has some truth to it? Or maybe it was just coincidence. But definitely worth trying at 5 weeks if you're in a bad spot financially.

That's interesting! Maybe I'll try contacting them now (at 5 weeks) and then follow up again if I don't hear back. I'm definitely in a tough financial spot.

I work with unemployment cases professionally, and here's what you should know: There's no official waiting period before contacting the governor's office, but they do prioritize based on wait time and hardship. If you contact them, be very specific about: 1. Exactly when you filed (date) 2. What you've done to resolve it (calls, messages, etc.) 3. The specific financial hardship you're experiencing 4. Your claim ID number Also send a secure message through your ESD account specifically stating you've been waiting X weeks with no resolution. This creates documentation that can help your case.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely include all of this information when I reach out. I've been documenting all my attempts to contact ESD so I can provide specific dates.

I had to wait 8 weeks last year and no one helped!!!! The governor's office is useless just like ESD! I lost my apartment because of them!!!! Don't get your hopes up, they don't care about regular people AT ALL.

To update everyone in this thread - I just checked the ESD website and they're showing an average adjudication time of 5-7 weeks right now. So while technically they should process claims within 21 days, the reality is very different. Contact the governor's office, your state reps, and try using the phone services others have mentioned. Multiple approaches at once seem to work best.

Thanks for checking that. I'm going to try all the approaches mentioned here. I'll update if anything works!

I'm in a similar situation - been waiting 4.5 weeks for my adjudication and getting really stressed about my mortgage payment. Reading through all these responses, it sounds like there's no harm in contacting the governor's office now rather than waiting for some arbitrary 6-week mark. I'm also going to try that Claimyr service and reach out to my state representative like others suggested. It's frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops when we're already dealing with job loss, but I appreciate everyone sharing what's worked for them. Good luck to everyone dealing with this mess!

You're absolutely right - there's no point waiting for some unofficial 6-week rule when you're facing real financial pressure like a mortgage payment. I'm in week 5 myself and just sent emails to both my state rep and the governor's office this morning after reading all these responses. The multiple approach strategy makes sense since everyone seems to have different experiences with what actually works. Let's both update this thread if we get any movement on our claims - it could help others who find this post later!
