One more thing to keep in mind - holidays and Washington ESD processing delays don't extend your 26-week benefit period. Those weeks count toward your total even if there are delays in processing your weekly claims.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I feel much better understanding that I have 26 weeks to work with. Time to get serious about my job search and make the most of these benefits.
Last piece of advice - start looking for jobs immediately even if you think your unemployment claim will be approved. Washington ESD requires you to be actively seeking work, and the sooner you start building your job search log, the better. Plus you might find something great before your benefits even kick in!
Good point! I've been so focused on the unemployment application that I haven't even started job hunting yet. I should do both.
One more consideration - make sure you understand how workers comp settlement affects future unemployment eligibility. If you get a lump sum settlement, it might impact your ability to collect UI benefits immediately after.
Bottom line OP - focus on your recovery first. The financial stuff will work itself out once you know what your work capacity will be. Don't stress about unemployment until you're medically cleared and know whether your job will be available.
sending you good vibes. this whole situation sucks but you're not alone. lots of us are dealing with the same thing right now

I used Claimyr when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD about my disqualification. Best decision I made during that whole ordeal. Got connected to an agent who explained exactly what I needed to do to fix my claim status.

•I'm definitely keeping that service in mind in case I run into issues. Seems like a lot of people have had success with it.

•Yeah, especially if your claim goes into adjudication and you need to check on the status. Way better than trying to call Washington ESD directly.

Bottom line - apply for benefits, be honest about what happened, keep looking for work, and don't give up if you hit obstacles. The system isn't perfect but most people who qualify eventually get their benefits if they stick with it.

•Thanks everyone for all the advice and encouragement. I feel much more confident about applying now. I'll update this thread once I hear back from Washington ESD.
