Remember that even if you qualify, you need to file weekly claims every week to actually get paid. Missing a week can cause delays or loss of benefits. Set a reminder on your phone for the same day every week.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I feel much more confident about applying now. Sounds like I should definitely qualify based on my work history and the fact that I was laid off. Going to file my claim today.
And remember that Claimyr option if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. Sometimes it's the only way to get answers quickly.
I tried calling Washington ESD to ask about my benefit calculation but couldn't get through. The phone system is terrible. That Claimyr thing people mentioned might be worth trying if you need to actually talk to someone. I'm considering it myself.
Definitely recommend it. I probably called the regular number 50 times over two weeks and never got through. Claimyr got me connected in like 20 minutes.
For what it's worth, I think the benefit calculator on the Washington ESD website is pretty accurate. I used it before filing and my actual benefit amount was within $5 of what it predicted. Just make sure you have your wage information correct when you enter it.
One more thing - if you're getting benefits on a debit card instead of direct deposit, those typically load on Tuesday afternoons. The timing is slightly different than ACH transfers to bank accounts.
Bottom line: file your weekly claim by Saturday night, expect payment Tuesday-Wednesday, and don't panic if it's a day late due to holidays or bank processing. The system is pretty reliable once you understand the timing!
Your benefit amount stays the same for your entire claim year unless you have a new claim or your circumstances change significantly. So once you know your weekly amount, that's what you'll get each week you're eligible.
The maximum benefit duration is 26 weeks in Washington, but that's only if you qualify for the full amount based on your work history. Some people get fewer weeks depending on how much they worked.

One thing I learned when I finally got through to Washington ESD (using Claimyr helped a ton) is that FUTA funding also supports the administrative costs of running the UI system, not just benefit payments. So it helps fund the whole operation.

•That makes sense - someone has to pay for all those Washington ESD offices and computer systems

•Right, and the customer service staff, adjudication officers, appeals tribunals - the whole infrastructure that processes our claims.

Thanks everyone for explaining this! I was worried my benefits might get cut or something but now I understand that FUTA provides stable federal backing for the Washington ESD system. Makes me feel more confident about my claim while I'm job searching.

•Glad this thread helped you too! The unemployment system seems much more solid when you understand how it's funded.
