Just want to add that the base period thing can be confusing but there's actually an alternate base period option if you don't qualify under the standard one. It uses more recent wages but has stricter requirements.
That's good to know! So if recent work doesn't count under the regular base period, there might still be another option?
Bottom line - you need wages in at least 2 quarters during your base period, meet the minimum earnings threshold, and be unemployed through no fault of your own. Everything else is just details and special circumstances.
One thing that caught me off guard - if you work part time while collecting unemployment, it can extend your benefit year but you still only get 26 weeks total of payments. The weeks just get spread out more.
Bottom line: 26 weeks is your standard limit in Washington, no extensions currently available, make sure you file weekly claims on time, and start job searching immediately. That's the reality of unemployment benefits right now.
This whole thread has been really helpful! I'm in a similar situation and was totally confused about the requirements. Going to try calling Washington ESD tomorrow morning bright and early.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I think I have a better understanding now. Going to gather my pay stubs and employment dates, then either call Washington ESD or maybe try that Claimyr service if I can't get through on my own.
You're welcome! Feel free to come back and update us on how it goes. These kinds of real experiences help other people in similar situations.
I'm bookmarking this thread because it answers so many questions I had about unemployment. The Washington ESD website is not very clear about the employer side of things.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information. I feel much better about filing my claim now. Time to stop worrying about my former employer and focus on finding my next job!

The bottom line is that it's possible to get both, but you need to meet all the requirements for unemployment while being honest about your disability. The 'able and available' requirement is key - you have to genuinely be able to work within your restrictions.

•That makes sense. I think my situation might qualify since I can do desk work. I'll gather all my medical documentation and apply carefully.

•Definitely get everything from your doctor in writing about what you can and can't do workwise.

One more thing - if you do get approved for both benefits, the unemployment office might periodically review your case to make sure you're still meeting the requirements. Don't be surprised if they ask for updated medical documentation.

•Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to keep my medical records updated and stay in touch with my doctor about my work capabilities.
