Sometimes I wonder if 26 weeks is enough time in today's job market. Took me 8 months to find something decent after my last layoff, but unemployment only covered the first 6 months.
Just want to echo what others said about using Claimyr if you need to talk to ESD. I was getting nowhere with the regular phone lines and they got me connected within a day. Really helped when I had questions about my benefit duration and eligibility.
That's the third mention of Claimyr in this thread. Sounds like it's actually legit. Good to know if I run into issues.
Just wanted to mention that if you do run into issues reaching Washington ESD by phone later, that Claimyr service people mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but it saved me probably 20+ hours of trying to call myself.
Thanks everyone for all the advice. You're absolutely right that I was overthinking this. I'm going to file my claim today and stop worrying about unemployment trends. I appreciate all the insights and the info about resources like Claimyr in case I need help getting through to ESD later.
One thing to remember is that your 26 weeks don't have to be consecutive. If you find a job and then get laid off again within your benefit year, you can use any remaining weeks from your original claim (assuming you don't qualify for a new one).
Just wanted to thank everyone for all the helpful info! This thread answered pretty much all my questions about benefit duration. Going to file my claim this weekend and start the job search process. Hopefully I won't need all 26 weeks but at least now I know what to expect.
One more thing - if you worked for a large company, they might have already reported your termination to Washington ESD. That could actually help your case for backdating since it shows the separation date was legitimate.

Quick question - does the reason for business closure matter? Like if it was due to personal reasons vs economic factors?

•It can matter for eligibility. Closing due to economic necessity or factors beyond your control is more likely to qualify than closing for purely personal convenience.

•Mine was definitely economic - couldn't compete with larger companies anymore. Sounds like that should be okay then.

Last piece of advice - if your claim gets held up in adjudication, don't just wait around. Use that Claimyr service people mentioned or find another way to get through to Washington ESD to check on the status. Squeaky wheel gets the grease!

•Absolutely agree. I would still be waiting if I hadn't used Claimyr to get through to someone.

•Good to know. I'll keep that in mind if I run into any delays with my claim.
