Last thing - if your claim gets denied for any reason, don't panic. You can appeal the decision. Sometimes it's just a misunderstanding that can be cleared up.
You got this! The process seems overwhelming at first but thousands of people file for unemployment every week. Just take it one step at a time and don't be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck.
Thanks everyone for all the help! I feel much more confident about starting this process now. Really appreciate all the detailed advice.
No problem! Just remember if you need to talk to Washington ESD directly and can't get through, Claimyr is there as an option. Sometimes you really do need to speak with an actual agent.
The whole system is set up to be confusing on purpose I swear. They don't want people to know they qualify.
Bottom line - if you've worked steadily for 6 months and earned decent wages, you probably qualify. The exact calculations matter less than having consistent work history and earnings.
One last thing - if they can't resolve your issue at the appointment, ask to speak to a supervisor. Sometimes the front-line staff can't make certain decisions but a supervisor can override things or escalate your case.
Thanks everyone for all the advice! I feel much more prepared now. I'll bring copies of everything, show up early, and try to stay patient. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly. I'll update this thread after my appointment in case it helps others.
One more thing - if you do end up owing money after the appeal, make sure you understand whether it's fraud or non-fraud overpayment. Non-fraud doesn't have the same penalties and collection methods.
Will do! Thanks everyone for all the advice. Feeling much better about this now that I know what steps to take.
Definitely try that Claimyr service if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD quickly. Made all the difference for me when I was dealing with my overpayment issue.

Just remember that working part-time while on UI is actually encouraged by Washington ESD. It shows you're actively trying to get back to full employment. Don't feel guilty about it!

•Thanks! I was worried they'd see it as trying to game the system somehow.

•Not at all. The partial benefit system exists specifically to encourage people to take available work while searching for better opportunities.
