Final piece of advice - print out or screenshot everything once you submit your claim. Keep records of your confirmation numbers, any correspondence, and your weekly claim confirmations. You'll need them if there are any issues later.
Just wanted to add that if you need to speak to Washington ESD about your claim and can't get through their regular phone lines, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier really does work. I was skeptical at first but they got me connected to an agent in under 10 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own.
I actually tried Claimyr after seeing it mentioned here and it worked for me too. Finally got my adjudication issue resolved after weeks of trying to call myself.
The monetary eligibility is just one part - you also have to meet the non-monetary requirements like being separated through no fault of your own and being able and available for work.
Don't stress too much about it right now. If the layoffs do happen, you can always call Washington ESD or use their online resources to verify your eligibility when you actually need to file. Cross that bridge when you come to it.
Remember that Washington ESD has to prove misconduct on your part if they want to deny benefits for quitting. If you quit due to employer actions that would cause a reasonable person to quit, that's usually considered good cause.
Is there any penalty for filing one extra weekly claim after you've already gone back to work full-time? I filed last week not realizing I was supposed to report my work from the previous week.
The whole unemployment system needs an overhaul. Why is something as basic as closing a claim so confusing? Other states have much clearer processes.
Agreed. The lack of clear guidance creates so much unnecessary stress for people who are already dealing with job transitions.
At least we have resources like this forum and services like Claimyr to help navigate the system. Better than being completely on your own.

Bottom line is Washington ESD calculates your weekly benefit amount based on your earnings in your base period. The exact formula is on their website but it can be confusing. Your best bet is to file your claim and see what amount they give you.

•Thanks everyone for all the info. I think I have a better understanding now of how the benefit calculation works.

One more thing - if you think your benefit amount is calculated wrong you can appeal it. There's a process for that through Washington ESD.

•I think it's 30 days from when you receive the determination notice, but don't quote me on that. Check with Washington ESD for the exact timeframe.

•Definitely something you'd want to call about if you need to appeal. That's another situation where Claimyr might be helpful to actually get through to someone.
