Keep in mind too that even if you get approved, there might be a waiting period before benefits start. And the weekly benefit amount is based on your earnings history, so make sure you understand what you'd actually be getting.
Whatever you decide, make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING. Your application, any correspondence with Washington ESD, documentation of your work situation, interview notes if you have an adjudication call. You'll want all of this if you need to appeal or if there are any questions later.
One more thing about benefit amounts - if you were in the military or worked for the federal government, those wages might be handled differently. Make sure to mention any federal employment when you file your claim.
The whole system is confusing but once you get your first payment you'll see exactly how much you're getting. Just be patient with the process - took about 2 weeks for my first payment after filing.
For what it's worth, I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got some clarity on my own situation. Sometimes talking to an actual person at Washington ESD makes all the difference in understanding your specific circumstances.
Just remember that even if you can't get more regular UI right away, keep applying for jobs and stay engaged with WorkSource. Sometimes opportunities come up when you least expect them, and you want to be ready.
Overall the system definitely kept me more selective about jobs rather than just taking anything out of panic. Probably led to a better match in the end.
This has been incredibly helpful everyone! I have much better understanding now of how UI creates various indirect incentives beyond just the weekly payments. Thanks for all the insights!

Thanks everyone for all this info. I was completely clueless about unemployment taxes and now I feel like I have a handle on what to expect. Going to set up that 10% withholding first thing tomorrow morning.

•Glad this discussion helped. It's one of those things they really should explain better when you first apply for benefits.

Just wanted to add that if anyone needs help reaching Washington ESD to set up tax withholding or get tax documents, that Claimyr thing really does work. I was skeptical at first but it beats sitting on hold for hours. Worth checking out their demo at least.

•I'm convinced. Going to try it when I call to set up my withholding. Thanks for the recommendation!

•Second this recommendation. Used it last month and got through to an agent in like 20 minutes instead of waiting all day.
