For what it's worth, I found that calling Washington ESD super early in the morning sometimes works better than trying later in the day. But honestly, that Claimyr thing sounds way easier.
I tried the early morning thing but still couldn't get through. Might have to check out that service.
Definitely recommend Claimyr if you need to speak with someone at Washington ESD. Takes all the frustration out of trying to get through on your own.
Just want to add that your benefit amount might be different if you're in a union or have other special circumstances. Most people will get the standard calculation but there can be exceptions.
This whole situation is making me realize how unprepared most people are for unemployment. We should all know this stuff before we need it.
Anyone else think we should be pushing for Washington ESD to be more transparent about their capacity and contingency plans? Seems like we're all just guessing here.
Don't forget about taxes! Your unemployment benefits are taxable income. You can have taxes withheld or pay quarterly, but don't get surprised at tax time.
Bottom line - you get up to 26 weeks, file every week, do your job search, report all income, and keep good records. It's not that complicated once you get the hang of it. The hardest part is dealing with Washington ESD if you have problems, but services like Claimyr can help with that.
Does anyone know if there's a way to get a breakdown of exactly how they calculated your benefit? My monetary determination just shows the final amount but not the math behind it.
Good luck with that. I mentioned earlier I've been trying for weeks. That Claimyr service someone mentioned might be worth checking out if you get frustrated with the phone lines.
One last tip - keep all your pay stubs and tax documents from the base period in case there are any discrepancies. I had to provide proof of wages when Washington ESD couldn't verify some of my employment history. Having the documentation ready made the whole process much smoother.

Bottom line for the original poster - you'll likely get close to the full 26 weeks if you worked steadily for 8 years. Make sure to file your weekly claims on time and keep up with your job search requirements. The benefits should give you a good cushion while you look for your next position.

One last tip - if you do need to contact Washington ESD and can't get through on your own, that Claimyr service really does work. I was skeptical at first but it saved me weeks of frustration trying to get answers about my claim duration and weekly benefit amount.
