One more thing about Claimyr since it came up - I used it again last week when I had questions about my work search log and they got me through to someone who walked me through exactly what Washington ESD wants to see. Really took the guesswork out of it.
Final thought - 26 weeks is 26 opportunities to file a claim and get paid. Don't waste any of them by missing deadlines or not meeting requirements. Every week counts when you're unemployed.
One more tip - if you're really tight on money, some food banks and churches can help with groceries while you're waiting for that first unemployment payment. No shame in getting help when you need it.
Remember that unemployment stats from that period don't capture the full picture of economic anxiety. Many people were working multiple part-time jobs or dealing with wage stagnation even when technically employed.
If you need current data for comparison, Washington ESD's website has up-to-date unemployment rates. Though calling them directly might be tough - I've heard good things about that Claimyr service for actually reaching ESD agents when you need specific information.
I used Claimyr last month and it was so much easier than trying to call myself. Worth checking out their demo video to see how it works.
One more thing - make sure you understand what counts as a 'week' for reporting purposes. It's Sunday through Saturday, not Monday through Friday or whenever you happen to file your claim.
honestly the hardest part about all this is just getting accurate information from Washington ESD in the first place. their website is confusing and calling them is nearly impossible. at least forums like this help people figure things out
That's why I ended up trying Claimyr when I had questions. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual person who knows the system.

Just want to add that you should file your claim as soon as possible after your hours are reduced. You can't get benefits for weeks before you file, so don't wait thinking your situation might improve.

•That's a really good point! I was thinking about waiting to see if they give me more hours back, but I guess I should file now just in case.

•Exactly! You can always stop filing weekly claims if your hours go back up, but you can't go back and claim benefits for weeks before you filed your initial claim.

The bottom line is that Washington ESD doesn't care how many hours you work per week - they only care about your wages. If you've earned enough wages in your base year and your current earnings are low enough, you can qualify for partial benefits even while working part-time.

•This has been super helpful everyone! I think I understand the basics now. Time to file that claim and see what happens.

•Good luck! Remember to be completely honest about your earnings and hours when you file your weekly claims. The system works best when you're upfront about everything.
