SSA Death Benefits: Tips for Actually Reaching a Human?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get through to the Social Security office about death benefits. Has anyone had any luck getting through to a real person lately? It's been a nightmare trying to reach them. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been trying to get through for weeks now. It's like they don't want us to actually talk to anyone 🙄

Same here! I swear they must have like 2 people working the phones for the entire country 🤣

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through

Yeah, I've tried that. Still no luck. It's like playing the lottery at this point 😫

I actually found a way to get through! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure it's legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but I can confirm it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration!

How long did it take for them to get through?

It took about an hour and a half, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music the whole time. They just called me when they got an agent.

Here's what I've learned from my experience with SSA death benefits: • Start by gathering all necessary documents (death certificate, SSN, etc.) • Try calling first thing in the morning, right when they open • Be prepared for long hold times, sometimes up to 2-3 hours • If you can't get through by phone, consider making an appointment at your local office • Check their website for any online options to start the process • Be patient and persistent, it can take several attempts to reach someone Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Has anyone else noticed that their hold music is like, the worst ever? I swear it's designed to make you hang up 🎵🤮

Pro tip: put it on speaker and mute it. Check back every 15 mins or so to see if anyones picked up

I'm in the same boat, trying to get death benefits sorted for my grandma. This whole process is so frustrating. Sending good vibes your way, OP!

Thanks, appreciate the support. It's tough enough dealing with loss without all this bureaucracy on top of it.

Have you tried reaching out to your local congressperson's office? Sometimes they can help expedite things with federal agencies like SSA.

This! 👆 My rep's office was super helpful when I was stuck in SSA limbo last year.
