TWC disqualified me after work-from-home equipment issues - need appeal advice ASAP
I'm beyond frustrated with this whole process! Got disqualified for unemployment because my employer claimed I was 'not compatible with work-from-home standards' due to internet issues. The TRUTH is their equipment was faulty! I've been fighting this for 2 months now. I have PROOF - my internet provider came out, ran tests showing my connection was fine, and I have saved messages showing I repeatedly reported issues with their equipment. But TWC sided with my employer without even looking at my evidence! I've tried calling TWC literally every day when they open (8am sharp!) and can't get through. Yesterday I actually managed to stay on hold for 5 HOURS and still didn't speak to anyone. My bills are piling up and I'm getting desperate. Can anyone help with: 1. What's the fastest way to actually reach a TWC agent? 2. How do I properly appeal this disqualification? 3. Will my proof of internet testing and message history be enough? I really need this resolved soon - my savings are almost gone and I can't find another job yet.

First of all, I went through something similar last year, so I feel your pain. TWC's determination was definitely wrong in your case. Having documentation from your internet provider and screenshots of messages reporting equipment issues is exactly what you need for an appeal. For appealing: You need to file your appeal within 14 calendar days of receiving the determination letter. Did you already submit an appeal? If not, do it IMMEDIATELY - even if it's just a basic appeal letter stating you disagree with the determination. You can always submit additional evidence later. The best way to reach TWC quickly is unfortunately not through their main line. Have you tried using the Telecenter option in the TWC system? Call the main number, then select option 2, then option 1, and finally option 1 again. Sometimes this path has shorter wait times.

•Thank you!! I did file the appeal right away but haven't heard anything back yet. It's been 3 weeks since I submitted it. Is that normal? I'm so scared they're just going to ignore my appeal too. I'll try that phone option tomorrow morning! Do you know if I can still qualify for benefits during the appeal process? I marked 'yes' that I'm appealing when I did my payment requests, but they're still showing $0.

THE ENTIRE TWC SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO SIDE WITH EMPLOYERS!!! I spent 6 months fighting a similar case when I got fired for "performance issues" that were actually caused by their outdated software. They WANT us to give up because it saves them money. Here's what you NEED to know - those determination letters are often written by people who spend like 5 minutes on your case. They rarely look at evidence unless you get to an actual appeal hearing. And getting an appeal hearing takes FOREVER unless you know how to speed it up. Honestly, I wouldn't count on getting benefits anytime soon. The appeal backlog is MONTHS long now. I had to take a crappy job at half my previous pay while waiting. The whole system is BROKEN!!!

•This is so discouraging to hear... I'm already 2 months without income and don't know how much longer I can last. Is there any way to request an expedited appeal hearing? My situation is becoming desperate.

my cousin had almost the same probem last month. her job gave her a laptop that kept crashing but they said it was her fault lol. she got denied benefits to. she ended up getting approved but only after she talked to a actual person at twc. took her like 3 weeks of calling every single day

•That gives me some hope! Did she do anything special to finally get through to someone? I'm desperate to talk to an actual human at this point.

I went through the appeal process last year after being discharged for alleged attendance issues (which were actually approved medical absences). Based on your situation, here's what you need to do: 1. While waiting for your appeal hearing to be scheduled, organize all your evidence chronologically: - The service report from your internet provider with timestamps - Screenshots of all communications with your employer about equipment issues - Dates and times you requested equipment replacement/repair - Any performance reviews from before the equipment issues started 2. For your payment requests, keep submitting them even if they show $0. If you win your appeal, they'll pay retroactively. 3. For reaching TWC: Most people don't know this but try calling your local Workforce Solutions office. They sometimes have direct lines to TWC representatives and can help escalate your case. 4. You can check your appeal status online through the UI portal. Look for the "Check Appeal Status" option. The key to winning these kinds of cases is showing that the issue was outside your control and that you made reasonable efforts to address it. Your documentation sounds solid.

I found a service called Claimyr that really helped me get through to TWC last month when I had a similar issue with my claim. After weeks of busy signals, they got me connected to an agent in about 30 minutes. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh The agent I spoke with was able to look at my case notes and explained exactly what documentation I needed to submit for my appeal. Saved me weeks of guessing! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the same endless phone loop I was in.

•Thank you for the tip! I'm willing to try anything at this point. Did the TWC agent you spoke with give you any insight on how long appeals typically take? I'm getting really anxious about the timeline.

•Is this legit? Seems like it might be a scam to get people's information when they're desperate...

•@anxiousclaimant - The agent told me appeals are taking 4-6 weeks right now, but it varies depending on your region in Texas. For me it was worth it just to confirm they had received my appeal paperwork properly. @skeptical - I was hesitant too, but it's a real service. They basically use a system that calls TWC repeatedly until they get through, then connect you. I found them mentioned in several TWC Facebook groups before I tried them.

I had a somewhat similar situation and ended up winning my appeal, but it took almost 3 months from start to finish. The key thing is making sure you're properly preparing for the actual hearing. When you finally get your appeal hearing notice, it will include instructions. READ THEM CAREFULLY. You'll need to submit all your evidence before the hearing date. If you wait until the actual hearing, they might not accept it. Also the hearings are usually by phone, and the hearing officer will be all business. Have your notes organized and stick to the facts - when the equipment failed, what steps you took to resolve it, how you communicated with your employer. Don't get emotional or go off on tangents about how unfair the company was. Good luck!

•3 months?? 😭 That's so long! But thanks for the tips about the hearing. I'll definitely get everything organized now so I'm prepared. Were you able to get retroactive payments for the entire time once you won?

Is anyone else finding that the TWC website keeps logging them out when trying to check their appeal status? It's happening to me constantly and I'm wondering if it's just my computer or if there's some issue with their system right now.

•That's a known issue with the TWC portal - it times out very quickly for security reasons. Try using Chrome in incognito mode and make sure you're not using any VPN. Also, the site is usually more stable during non-peak hours (early morning or late evening).

Quick update on appeal timelines - I was at the Workforce Solutions office yesterday for a job fair, and the staff mentioned they're seeing TWC appeals getting scheduled faster now than a few months ago. The current backlog is about 4-5 weeks from filing to hearing date for most cases. Also, regarding your evidence - make sure you have documentation showing you reported the equipment issues to your employer multiple times. In work-from-home cases, TWC looks closely at whether you made reasonable efforts to resolve technical issues before they led to your termination.

•That's at least a little better news on the timeline! And yes, I have texts, emails, and screenshots from our company chat showing I reported issues at least 8 different times over a two-week period. I even offered to drive to the office to get replacement equipment but was told that wasn't an option because of their office space limitations. I'm hoping that shows I made reasonable efforts.

Just wanted to follow up - after you get through to TWC, ask them specifically about a "quality control review" of your case. Sometimes they can flag obvious determination errors for review before the actual appeal hearing. It doesn't always work, but I've seen it help speed things up in cases with clear documentation like yours.

•Quality control review is a JOKE. I requested one and all they did was rubber-stamp the original denial. Complete waste of time. The ONLY thing that works is getting an actual hearing with a different examiner.
