TWC claim stuck 'under review' for 5 weeks despite rep promising to expedite - can't pay rent now

My TWC claim has been sitting in 'under review' status for FIVE WEEKS now! I'm at my wit's end. I finally got through to someone at TWC on Tuesday after trying for days (kept getting busy signals or disconnected). The lady said she would 'expedite' my claim and I got all hopeful... but it's now Thursday and NOTHING has changed on my account status. My rent is due Monday and my car payment was due yesterday. I already used up my emergency savings during the first few weeks. Is an 'expedite' just something they say to get you off the phone? Does this typically mean good news or bad news is coming? I've submitted all the requested documents through the portal. I worked at my last job for 3 years before they did mass layoffs, so I know I should qualify. Can't sleep from the stress!

this happend to me too. it took 7 weeks for mine and then suddenly one day it just got approved. the system is horrible but just hang in there

7 WEEKS??? I can't go that long. Did calling actually help speed things up at all for you or was it just a waste of time?

TWC is severely backlogged right now because of the tech industry layoffs. When they say 'expedite' it usually means they flag your case for priority review, but that still takes 2-5 business days in most cases. It's not just something they say to get you off the phone, but it's also not an instant fix. If you're facing immediate financial hardship, you should: 1. Contact your landlord ASAP to explain the situation (many will work with you if you show proof of your pending TWC claim) 2. Call your auto lender about a payment deferral (many offer hardship programs) 3. Consider applying for emergency rental assistance through your county's program 4. Keep requesting payment every two weeks even while under review (this is critical!) Also, 'under review' usually means they're verifying your separation reason with your employer, which is generally a good sign. If there was a problem with your eligibility, you'd typically see 'disqualified' or receive a determination letter.

Thank you for the detailed response! I've already talked to my landlord and she's giving me until the 15th before charging late fees, which helps a little. I didn't know about still requesting payments while under review - I thought I couldn't do that until approved! Going to do that right now.

Under review for 5 weeks is not normal! Even with backlogs, most claims should be processed within 21 days. Something is stuck in your claim. When you talked to the rep, did she mention anything specific about why it's delayed? Did you have multiple employers in your base period? Or any out-of-state work? Those things can cause delays.

She didn't tell me much, just that she would 'put in a request to expedite' it. I did have a part-time side gig for about 3 months during my full-time job, but that was just 1099 contract work. Could that be causing the holdup?

The 1099 work could definitely be complicating things. Any income you earned during your base period has to be verified, and 1099 work requires additional steps for TWC to process. When they're backlogged, these mixed-income claims often take longer. I was stuck in a similar situation and wasted weeks trying to call the regular TWC number with no luck. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual claim specialist. They connected me with TWC in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh Once I got to a specialist (not just a general rep), they were able to see my claim was stuck because they needed additional verification of my 1099 income, which wasn't showing in the regular system. Within 3 days after that call, my claim was processed.

Is that service legit? I've never heard of it and I'm always suspicious of services that claim to help with government stuff. Seems like they'd just take your money and you'd still be waiting on hold forever.

Yes, it's legitimate. They don't handle your claim or interact with TWC directly - they just connect you to the actual TWC phone lines using their system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you. You still talk directly to TWC representatives. I was skeptical too but was desperate after weeks of busy signals.

I might try this if nothing changes by Monday. Right now I'm hoping the expedite request actually does something. I just hate not knowing what's happening with my claim!

EXPEDITED CLAIM IS A JOKE!!! I was told the SAME EXACT THING 3 DIFFERENT TIMES by 3 DIFFERENT REPS and my claim was stuck for 9 WEEKS!!! The only thing that finally worked was getting my state representative involved. Google "[your county] state representative" and call their office. They have special TWC liaisons who can actually get things fixed. I did this and my claim was processed within 4 days after 9 weeks of being ignored.

9 weeks?! That's insane! I never thought about contacting my state rep. That's actually a really good idea if the expedite doesn't work. Thanks for the tip!

One more thing to check - log into your TWC account and make sure there are no pending requests for information or documents they need from you. Sometimes these requests don't generate notifications, and your claim just sits there waiting for something you don't know they need. Check both the Correspondence Inbox and the main dashboard for any alerts or tasks. If you see anything labeled 'Action Required,' that's likely what's holding things up.

Just checked again and I don't see anything pending. No messages in my inbox since the original approval for the application on March 6th. No action items either. It just shows 'Under Review - No Payment Issued' on the claim status page.

have you tried caling the telecenter at exactly 7:00am when they open? thats how i got through after 3 weeks of trying. also if you have access to multiple phones try calling from all of them at once to increase your chances. my claim was under review for 6 weeks and then magically fixed itself 2 days after i finally got through to a real person

I just got an update this morning!! My claim status changed from 'Under Review' to 'Claim Processed - Payment Pending'! The TWC rep's expedite actually worked! It took 2 days from when she put in the request. Now I'm just waiting for the payment to hit my account. I'll update again once that happens. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

That's great news! Payment pending usually means the money will be in your account within 2-3 business days depending on your payment method. If you chose direct deposit, it's typically faster than the debit card option. Make sure you continue to request payments every two weeks to keep benefits flowing.

Congratulations on getting through the review process! That's such a relief after 5 weeks of waiting. I'm currently in week 3 of being under review myself, so seeing your success gives me hope. Did you notice any specific change in your account before the status updated, or did it just suddenly switch from "Under Review" to "Claim Processed"? Also, when you do get your payment, will it include all the back weeks you were waiting, or just the current week? I'm trying to plan my finances around this whole mess too.

Hey! Thanks for the congrats! To answer your questions - there was no warning or gradual change, it literally just switched overnight from "Under Review" to "Claim Processed - Payment Pending" when I checked Thursday morning. And yes, when the payment comes through it should include ALL the back weeks I was eligible for during the review period - that's the whole point of the system holding your place in line while they verify everything. So you should get a lump sum for all those weeks once yours gets processed too. Hang in there, week 3 isn't as bad as week 5 felt! The expedite request really did work, just took a couple days longer than I hoped.

Just wanted to add another perspective - I went through something similar last year and the stress was unbearable. One thing that helped me was documenting everything: dates of calls, rep names if you got them, what they told you, etc. This becomes really useful if you need to escalate later. Also, if you're still struggling financially while waiting, check if your local food banks or churches have emergency assistance programs. Many don't advertise it widely but will help with utilities or small emergency funds. The Salvation Army and 211 (dial 2-1-1) can connect you to local resources. It sounds like your claim is moving in the right direction now, but having that safety net knowledge for next time (hopefully never!) can reduce some of the panic. Glad to hear you got some movement on your case!

That's really solid advice about documenting everything! I wish I had started doing that from the beginning instead of just hoping each call would fix things. The 211 tip is especially helpful - I had no idea that was a resource. I'm definitely going to keep that number saved for the future. It's crazy how much stress this whole process puts on people when we're already dealing with job loss. Thanks for taking the time to share those resources, even though my situation is finally moving forward it could really help others who are still stuck in the waiting game.

So glad to hear your claim finally moved forward! I'm in a similar boat - been under review for 3 weeks now and getting more anxious each day. Did the rep give you any reference number or case number when she said she'd expedite it? I talked to someone yesterday who said they'd "look into it" but didn't give me any specifics, so I'm wondering if that's the same thing as an expedite request. Also, just wanted to mention for others reading this - I found out you can check your claim status online 24/7 instead of calling constantly. Sometimes the status updates before the reps even know about it. Really hoping mine follows the same path as yours did!

The rep didn't give me a specific reference number when she said she'd expedite it, just told me it was "flagged for priority review" and to check back in a few days. That sounds similar to what you were told with "look into it" - might be the same thing just different wording. You're absolutely right about checking online frequently! I was obsessively refreshing my account page multiple times a day (probably not healthy but I couldn't help it). The status change happened overnight between Wednesday and Thursday morning, so definitely keep checking. 3 weeks is still within the realm of normal according to what others have shared here, though I know it doesn't feel normal when you're living it. Fingers crossed yours moves soon!

Wow, what a rollercoaster this thread has been! I've been following unemployment discussions for a while but this is my first time posting. @QuantumQuester, I'm so relieved to see your claim finally got processed! Your story really highlights how broken the TWC system can be - 5 weeks is just unacceptable when people are facing eviction and can't pay basic bills. For anyone else still waiting, I wanted to share that my local workforce office actually has a "claim specialist" who can sometimes help with stuck claims. Not all offices have this, but it's worth calling your nearest location and asking. They can't process claims directly, but they have better access to the TWC system than the regular phone reps and can sometimes spot issues that are causing delays. Also, I've heard good things about that Claimyr service @Mei Chen mentioned - my neighbor used it last month and said it was worth the fee just to avoid the endless busy signals. The stress of not being able to even talk to a human while your bills pile up is almost worse than the actual waiting sometimes. Thanks to everyone sharing resources like the state rep contact and 211 - this community really looks out for each other!
