Denied UI benefits due to 'inadequate transportation' - need help appealing!

I just got denied unemployment benefits because they said I don't have adequate transportation to look for work. This is so frustrating! I do have reliable ways to get around, but they didn't even ask me about it. Has anyone else dealt with this? What can I do to appeal this decision and get my benefits?

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the unemployment office ASAP. Tell them you have reliable transportation and want to appeal the decision. 2. Gather evidence of your transportation options (bus pass, car registration, etc.) 3. Write a detailed explanation of how you can get to work reliably 4. Submit a formal appeal with all this info 5. Follow up regularly until you get a response Don't give up! The system is designed to be frustrating, but you gotta fight for your rights. Good luck!

This is great advice! I'd also recommend keeping a log of all your calls and interactions with the unemployment office. It can help if you need to escalate later.

Yep, documentation is key. I learned that the hard way 😩

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely follow these steps. Quick question - how long did your appeal process take?

Mine took about 3 weeks, but I've heard it can vary. Just keep pushing!

Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along with the unemployment office.

I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how I would go about finding my local rep?

Just google '[your state] find my representative' and it should pop up. Most have contact forms on their websites. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the unemployment office. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it varies. Still way better than doing it myself!

this happened to me last year! turns out they had outdated info on file. make sure to update your address and contact details when you appeal.

The unemployment system is BROKEN. They denied me for the same reason even tho I own a car! 🤬 Keep fighting and don't let them push you around!

Have you considered looking into public transportation options in your area? Even if you don't use them regularly, having a bus pass or something similar might help your case.

That's a great idea! I'll definitely look into that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I went through something similar a few months ago! The key thing that helped me was getting a letter from my local transit authority confirming I had access to public transportation, plus I got my mechanic to write a simple note saying my car was in working condition. Also, don't forget that rideshare services like Uber/Lyft count as transportation too - you can screenshot the apps on your phone as proof you have access. The appeal process can be slow but stick with it - most of these initial denials get overturned if you provide proper documentation. You've got this! 💪
