EDD claim denied for 'domestic reasons' - Need advice on appealing!

My unemployment claim got denied because of domestic reasons. Has anyone else dealt with this? What can I do to appeal the decision? I'm really stressed out about this and could use some advice.

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Have you tried contacting a lawyer? Some offer free consultations for EDD appeals. It might be worth looking into.

I hadn't thought about that. Do you know any specific lawyers or firms that handle these cases?

Yeah, I used Pershing Square Law Firm for my appeal. They only charged me after I won, which was pretty sweet. Might wanna give them a shot!

The EDD system is such a mess rn. I swear they're just denying claims left and right without even looking at them properly. 🤬

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep for a phone call 😬

I get it, but tbh it was worth every penny for me. Time is money, and I wasted way more than $20 worth of time trying to get through on my own.

Here's what you need to know about appealing an EDD denial: 1. File your appeal within 30 days of receiving the denial notice. 2. Clearly explain why you believe the decision was wrong. 3. Provide any new evidence that supports your case. 4. Consider getting legal help - many lawyers offer free consultations. 5. Prepare for your hearing by organizing all your documents. 6. Be honest and respectful during the hearing. 7. Follow up if you don't hear back within a reasonable timeframe. Remember, many denials get overturned on appeal. Don't give up!

what exactly do they mean by 'domestic reasons'? that seems pretty vague

They didn't really specify in the denial letter. I'm guessing it's because I quit my job to take care of a sick family member, but I'm not 100% sure.

Ah gotcha. Yeah, that could be tricky. Def appeal and explain your situation. Good luck!

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things along with EDD. Worth a shot!

I hadn't even considered that. How would I go about contacting them?

Just google your address + 'state representative'. Most have a contact form on their website. Explain your situation and ask if they can help. They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agency issues.
