PA UC sent payment to old bank account - how long for Treasury mailed check to arrive?
My husband just started receiving UC benefits again after being laid off, but we discovered his weekly payments were sent to an old closed bank account despite him entering his current banking info during the new claim filing. He called the Treasury department on Tuesday (5/23) and they said they mailed him a paper check on Friday (5/19). We're getting anxious because bills are due next week and we need that money. Does anyone know approximately how long these mailed checks take to arrive? We're in the Bucks County area outside Philly. Should we be worried it's lost already or is this normal wait time? I've heard horror stories about UC mail getting lost and I'm freaking out a bit.

My check took 6 business days to arrive last time this happened. Treasury is pretty consistent with there mail but USPS can be hit or miss depending on your area. Dont panic yet!! If you dont get it by this friday then maybe call treasury again. Bucks county mail usually isnt as slow as philly proper.

•Thanks for the reassurance. We're now going on 5 business days so hopefully Friday is the day! Is there a way to track the check or request a replacement if it doesn't show up?

This is actually fairly common with PA UC when opening a new claim after having a previous one. The system sometimes defaults to the banking information from the last claim even if you update it. For the checks, they typically arrive within 5-7 business days. If it doesn't arrive by early next week, call Treasury again (not UC) and they can place a stop payment and reissue. More importantly, your husband should verify his banking information is updated correctly for future payments by checking the direct deposit section on his UC dashboard. If not corrected, each payment will have the same issue.

•OMG this is super helpful. I didn't realize this could keep happening with future payments too! He's going to log in right now and double-check the banking info in the system.

had the same thing happen in march!!! took about a week for check to get here. but then the NEXT payment also went to old account even tho i already updated it twice!!!! had to call UC and they said i needed to update it in TWO different places on the website. so stupid how they set it up.

•Wait, TWO different places?? Where's the second spot? He only updated it in the direct deposit section.

Yes, it's confusing but there are actually two places to update banking info. First is in the "Direct Deposit" section under "My Benefits Plan." The second is when you're actually filing your weekly/biweekly claim - there's a review page that shows your payment method and allows you to update it. Many people miss this second one. Both need to be updated for it to take effect properly.

•PA UC system is DESIGNED to be confusing so people give up getting their benefits!! Been that way for years! Everytime they "update" the system it gets worse not better!

I was dealing with a similar issue last month trying to change my payment method and kept getting sent in circles. The website says one thing, the automated phone system says another, and nobody answers when you call for help. After wasting three days trying to get through to someone, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual UC rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The rep was able to update both places in the system from their end and confirmed my next payment would go to the right account. Saved me so much stress.

•Thanks for this suggestion! If the check doesn't come by Monday we might try this. We'll need to get through to someone to issue a replacement anyway.

Just to provide some specific information about Treasury checks for PA UC benefits: they're processed on Fridays, then mailed through USPS First Class Mail which typically takes 3-5 business days. For the Bucks County area, it's usually on the shorter end of that timeline. If it was mailed 5/19, you should definitely have it by today (5/26) or tomorrow at the latest. If not received by 5/30, contact Treasury at 877-869-1956 and request a tracer. They can stop payment and reissue after 10 business days from the original mail date. Make sure to check if your mail is being forwarded or held for any reason.

•Thank you for the detailed info! Today's mail already came and no check. We'll give it until Tuesday and then call that number. Really appreciate the specific guidance.

•My brother still uses the Money Network card! Says he prefers it because the payments never have issues like with direct deposit. He's had same UC card for like 3 years lol

USELESS TREASURY DEPT!!! I had FIVE checks lost in mail last year alone!! They make you wait TWO WEEKS before they'll even consider it lost! Then another WEEK to reissue! Meanwhile your landlord doesn't care and wants RENT ON TIME! The whole system is BROKEN!

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! Did you ever figure out what happened to them? Were they actually lost or delivered to the wrong place?

They claimed they were "delivered" but NOT TO ME!! Post office said they left it but WHO KNOWS WHERE!! Treasury doesn't care - they just make u wait and suffer!!! I had to borrow money from family TWICE because of this!!

update on my situation - finally got all my payments fixed BUT had to call treasury AND uc seperately to fix it. took like 3 weeks total but got all the money eventually. just keep calling!

•That's reassuring at least. Did they eventually deposit the money or send more checks?

they fixed the direct deposit for future payments but the old ones that went to wrong account came as checks. total mess but worked out eventually

One more important tip: make sure your husband continues filing his weekly certifications on time even while waiting for this payment issue to be resolved. I've seen people get so focused on fixing the payment problem that they forget to file their weekly claims and then have even bigger issues. Best of luck!

•Thanks for the reminder! He's been good about filing every Sunday. Hoping the check comes tomorrow and we can put this behind us.

Just wanted to share my recent experience since I went through something similar last month. My UC payment also went to a closed account and Treasury mailed the check on a Wednesday. It arrived exactly 5 business days later (the following Wednesday). The key thing is to make sure you're home when it arrives - these Treasury checks require signature confirmation in my area. Also, once you get this sorted out, I'd recommend setting up text alerts through the UC system so you get notified when payments are processed. That way you can catch any future issues immediately instead of waiting to see if money hits your account. Fingers crossed your check arrives tomorrow!

•Wait, they require signature confirmation? That's good to know! We've been home all week waiting but nobody mentioned needing to sign for it. I hope that doesn't mean it got returned or something. The text alerts tip is really helpful too - I had no idea that was an option. Thanks for sharing your timeline, it gives me hope that maybe tomorrow really will be the day!

I went through the exact same thing about 6 months ago! The Treasury check took exactly 7 business days to reach me in Montgomery County, so you're still within the normal window. One thing that helped reduce my anxiety was calling my local post office to see if they had any delivery updates - sometimes they can tell you if a certified/priority piece is in their system even if it hasn't been delivered yet. Also, make sure to check with any neighbors in case it gets misdelivered. The good news is Treasury checks don't expire quickly like regular paychecks do, so even if there's a delay you won't lose the money. Hang in there!

•That's a great idea about calling the local post office! I didn't think of that. We're going to try that tomorrow if it doesn't show up in today's mail. It's reassuring to hear it took 7 days for you in Montgomery County since we're in a similar area. The neighbor check is smart too - our mail carrier sometimes gets confused with our address since there's a similar one down the street. Thanks for the encouragement and the practical tips!

I just went through this exact situation 2 weeks ago! My PA UC payment got sent to my old PNC account that was closed. Treasury mailed my check on a Thursday and it arrived the following Tuesday - so 4 business days. I'm in Delaware County which is pretty close to Bucks. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking especially when bills are due! One thing I learned is that you can actually call your local USPS office and ask if they have any "accountable mail" (that's what they call certified/treasury checks) in your name. They were able to tell me mine was out for delivery that morning which gave me peace of mind. Also make sure your husband updates his banking info in BOTH places on the UC website like others mentioned - I made that mistake too and the next payment almost had the same issue. You should definitely get it by early next week if not sooner!
