PA UC paper checks to Philly taking forever - anyone know actual delivery timeframe?
I'm seriously worried about my PA unemployment checks getting to me in Philadelphia. I changed bank accounts in January and UC couldn't direct deposit my benefits. They claimed to have mailed my first check on Feb 10th (Monday), but here we are three days later with nothing in my mailbox. Then when I filed my weekly claim early Sunday morning, they didn't even process the mail-out until Tuesday! The UC rep couldn't give me a straight answer on delivery times. I've been without income since mid-December when my seasonal retail position ended, and my rent is already late. Does anyone know how long these paper checks actually take to arrive in Philly or MontCo? The anxiety is killing me!

It took 5 days for my check to arrive in Northeast Philly last month. Mailed on Wednesday got it Monday. USPS is super unreliable lately tho.

•5 days??? That feels like forever when you're broke. Thanks for the info though - at least I have some timeframe now.

For most people in Philly and Montgomery County, the standard delivery time is 3-7 business days from when UC actually puts it in the mail. Keep in mind that the date they tell you it was "mailed" sometimes just means it was processed for mailing, not physically given to USPS. If you don't receive anything by next Monday (that would be 7 business days from the first check), call them again. For future reference, have you considered setting up the PA UC ReliaCard? It's much faster than paper checks and you don't need a bank account for it.

•Thanks for this info! I'll wait until Monday before panicking completely. I didn't know about the ReliaCard option - is that something I can set up online or do I need to call them?

They told me ReliaCard was automatic if you don't have direct deposit set up. Did they not offer you that option? I never had to deal with paper checks at all when my direct deposit info was wrong.

•No! They never mentioned a card option when I called about my closed account. They just said they'd mail paper checks until I updated my banking info! Now I'm even more frustrated.

•Oh great, that's another thing to worry about! I'll ask around my building. Last thing I need is my UC check going to someone else's apartment.

Took 8 business days for my check to get to Lansdale from when they said they mailed it. Was told 3-5 days, ended up being 8. Just PA UC being terrible as usual lol

•Same thing in Upper Darby. They said 3-5 days but took 9 calendar days (so like 7 business days). The system is so broken! They should just use direct deposit for everyone who has a bank account and cards for everyone else. There's no reason to still be mailing paper checks in 2025 except that the state's systems are from 1985.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual person at UC? I was having issues with my check not arriving and getting different answers every time I called. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) after a friend recommended it, and they got me connected to a UC rep in about 15 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. The rep was able to see exactly when my check was mailed and gave me the option to cancel it and switch to the ReliaCard instead. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Saved me a ton of stress.

•I hadn't heard of this before. I'll check out that video - if my check doesn't come by Monday I'm definitely going to need help reaching someone who can actually give me real answers.

Just to update you on the ReliaCard option - you can request it when you speak to a rep. It takes about 7-10 days to arrive, but then your payments will be available 1-2 days after they process your weekly claim. Much faster than paper checks. You can use it anywhere that takes debit cards, and there are free ATMs at most major banks. If you want to switch to the ReliaCard, make sure to request it specifically when you call. Sometimes the reps don't offer all available options unless you ask directly.

•Thank you!! I'm definitely going to ask about this. Even if these checks eventually show up, I don't want to deal with this stress every week.

I had checks going to my old address for 3 weeks before I finally got someone to update my info. The system is a COMPLETE JOKE. I ended up having to go to the UC office in person to fix it because no one answered the phones and the online system kept giving me errors when I tried to update my address. Just be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait some more.

•This is why I always recommend setting up direct deposit or the ReliaCard immediately. Paper checks in the PA UC system have been problematic for years, and the postal service delays have only made it worse. If you do need to visit an office in person, make sure to check their hours online first - many offices have reduced their open days since 2023.

UPDATE: First check finally arrived today (Friday)! So that was 4 business days from when they said they mailed it. Still waiting on the second one that was supposedly mailed Tuesday. Going to call on Monday to switch to that ReliaCard option - this is too stressful to deal with every week. Thanks everyone for your help and for sharing your experiences!

•Glad you got it! The ReliaCard is way better, I switched last year and it's been smooth sailing since then.

So glad your first check finally showed up! 4 business days isn't too bad considering all the horror stories. Definitely get that ReliaCard set up ASAP - I made the switch last year after dealing with similar delays and it's been a game changer. You'll get your money so much faster and won't have to stress about mail delivery anymore. Hope your second check comes through soon too!
