First PA UC payment not in bank yet - approved after 6 month wait
After fighting with the system for SIX MONTHS (!) I finally got approved for PA UC benefits last week. Such a relief but now I'm stressing about when the money will actually hit my account. I called the treasury office this morning and the guy told me they sent the payment to my bank Monday morning but nothing's showing up yet. I'm getting anxious because I've got bills piling up. Does anyone know the typical timeline for when these first payments actually show up in your bank account? Is Wednesday the normal day? Just wondering what to expect since I've never claimed unemployment before. Thanks for any help!

congrats on finally getting approved! when i got my first payment back in jan it took about 2-3 business days after they sent it to show up in my account. so if they sent it monday morning you'll probably see it tomorrow (wed) or thursday at the latest. they don't process anything on weekends btw

•Thank you! That's good to know. I'm just so paranoid something else will go wrong after waiting so long. I'll keep an eye out for it tomorrow then.

The first payment typically takes a bit longer than subsequent ones. From my experience with PA UC, the first direct deposit usually arrives 2-3 business days after Treasury processes it. Since they sent it Monday morning, you should see it by Thursday at the latest. Remember that your financial institution also plays a role in how quickly it appears in your account. For future reference, your regular weekly payments should fall into a more predictable pattern after this first one. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims each week and meeting all work search requirements (applying to at least 2 jobs and completing 1 work search activity per week).

•This is correct! Also worth noting that some banks hold the first deposit longer than subsequent ones for security reasons. Bank of America held my first UC payment for an extra day but after that they were always available same day as Treasury sent them.

NOBODY tells you this but the Treasury and the UC office are completely different departments!!! Treasury might say they sent it but UC has to approve it first and they are so backed up. I waited 7 months for my claim and then another 3 WEEKS for my first payment!!! The UC system is a MESS right now!!! Good luck getting any answers from anyone!!!!

•This isn't accurate. If Treasury confirmed the payment was sent, then UC has already approved it. They're different departments, but Treasury doesn't process payments until UC releases them. The delay is most likely just the normal ACH transfer time plus possible holds by the receiving bank.

I had the exact same issue back in March. My first payment took almost a week to appear after Treasury said it was sent. I kept calling UC but couldn't get through to anyone. I was about to give up when I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to a UC rep in about 10 minutes. They confirmed everything was fine and the money showed up the next day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 After that first payment delay, all my other weekly payments came through exactly 2 business days after filing my weekly claim. The first one is always the weirdest.

Just to clarify some of the information here - PA UC payments follow this general timeline: 1. You file your weekly certification 2. UC processes and approves it (1-2 days normally) 3. Treasury issues the payment to your bank 4. Your bank processes the ACH transfer (1-3 business days) Since you said Treasury confirmed it was sent Monday morning, your bank is currently in step 4. PNC typically processes ACH transfers within 1-2 business days, so you should see it by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. I'd only start worrying if you don't see it by Friday. At that point, you could contact your bank to confirm they don't see any pending deposits.

•Thank you for breaking this down! I'll give it until Friday before panicking. Appreciate the detailed info.

btw did u set up direct deposit when u filled out your initial claim? sometimes people miss that part and then they automatically send u a debit card which takes way longer

•Yes I definitely set up direct deposit. The treasury guy confirmed they sent it to my checking account, not to a card. That's why I'm confused about the delay.

my buddy just went thru this whole process and his first payment showed up wednesday but got approved on a friday so maybe its always like 3 business days?

•The timing really varies based on several factors. PA Treasury typically processes payments in batches, and your bank's processing time adds another variable. Generally, you can expect 2-3 business days from when Treasury sends it, but there's no exact guaranteed day.
