PA UC payments not showing up in direct deposit despite transaction number - where's the money?

So frustrated right now! My husband has been waiting on his PA unemployment for almost 6 weeks and FINALLY got his first payment processed yesterday (including some backpay). The UC portal shows a payment date and transaction number, but nothing is showing up in our bank account! We've triple-checked that his direct deposit info is correct in the system. Has anyone else had this problem? How long should it take to actually hit the bank account? We're counting on this money for bills that are already past due.

This happens more often than you'd think. A couple things to check: 1. Look at the payment type in your husband's portal - does it say direct deposit or debit card? Sometimes the system defaults to the Money Network card even if you thought direct deposit was set up. 2. First payments often take 2-3 business days to process through the banking system after the posted payment date. 3. If the payment date was yesterday or today, give it until at least tomorrow afternoon before panicking. Also, sometimes backpay can trigger a fraud review which delays things. Has he completed all his identity verification through IDme?

Thx for the quick reply! Just checked the portal again and OMG you're right - it says "debit card" under payment type! But we definitely entered his banking info when he first filed. Is this normal? Will they mail him a card automatically or does he need to request one?

same thiing happened to my wife last month!!! PA UC switched her to debit card witout telling us. took over a week to get the stupid card in the mail and we almost got evicted waiting for it. system is completly broken

That's so frustrating! Did she have to call someone to get the card issued or did it just show up? We're already a week late on rent 😩

The Money Network card is automatically issued if this is his first claim. Even if you put in direct deposit info, the first payment almost always goes to the debit card. It's super annoying but that's just how PA's system works. The card should arrive within 7-10 business days of the payment date. Once he activates it, he can either use the card directly or transfer the funds to your bank account through the Money Network app/website. After he gets the card, he should double-check his direct deposit info in the portal to make sure future payments go to the bank account. Sometimes you have to re-enter the direct deposit info to make it stick.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!! No one tells you this when you file! I waited THREE WEEKS constantly checking my bank account before I finally got through to someone who explained the card thing. Such a waste of time and stress for no reason.

have him check his spam folder for emails from Money Network. they usually send an email when the card ships

When I was waiting for my Money Network card last year, I was going crazy trying to reach someone at PA UC to figure out what was happening with my payments. Kept getting busy signals for days. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent and they confirmed my card was already in the mail. Saved me days of stress! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Just having someone confirm when the card was mailed gave me peace of mind. You might want to try that if you're worried about when it's coming.

Thanks for the suggestion. Did you have to wait long to speak with someone after using that service? We're getting desperate here.

I got through to someone in about 30 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They were able to tell me exactly when my card was mailed out and when to expect it. Worth it just to stop the constant worrying.

they say its 7-10 business days but my card came in 5 days last month. dont forget you gotta activate it when it arrives by calling the number on the sticker. and make SURE you create the online account right away cuz thats how you transfer money to your bank

The PA UC payment system is deliberately designed to be CONFUSING AND FRUSTRATING!!! They KNOW most people want direct deposit but they force you to use their stupid debit card first so the bank they partner with can collect fees. It's a total SCAM and they've been doing this for YEARS with no improvement!!! I once spent 2 MONTHS trying to get my money off that card because the transfer function wasn't working. Called every day and got nothing but recordings and disconnections. The whole system is DESIGNED to make you give up!!!

its not that bad lol. the Money Network app works fine for transfers, ive never paid any fees. just need to use the right ATMs

Maybe YOU haven't had problems but THOUSANDS of others have!! Just search this forum! The app constantly crashes, transfers fail, and customer service is nonexistent! Just because it worked for you doesn't mean the system isn't BROKEN!!!

Update: Just in case anyone else runs into this problem - my husband found an email from Money Network in his junk folder that was sent 2 days ago. The card should arrive next week. I wish the PA UC website would make this clearer! There's literally nothing on the site that explains they send the first payment to a debit card regardless of your direct deposit info. Would have saved so much stress if we'd known this from the beginning. Thanks everyone for your help!!

Glad you found the email! This is definitely one of those things PA UC should explain better during the application process. Once you get the card, you can set up recurring transfers to your bank account so you don't have to manually move the money each time. Just remember that even with that set up, there's still a 1-2 day delay between when the payment hits the card and when it transfers to your bank.

Thanks! Will definitely set up the automatic transfers. Really appreciate everyone's help here.

So glad you found the email and got this sorted out! I went through the exact same thing last year - kept refreshing my bank account for days wondering where my payment was. The PA UC system really should have a big warning during signup that says "YOUR FIRST PAYMENT WILL GO TO A DEBIT CARD REGARDLESS OF DIRECT DEPOSIT INFO" in bold letters. Would save so many people from this unnecessary stress. Hope the card arrives quickly for you!

Totally agree! I just went through this same nightmare two months ago. Spent three days calling my bank thinking there was an issue on their end before someone on here told me about the automatic debit card thing. It's like PA UC deliberately keeps this information hidden. They really need to fix their communication - a simple popup during the direct deposit setup saying "Note: First payments are issued via debit card" would prevent so much confusion and panic for families who are already stressed about money.

This exact thing happened to me 3 months ago! I was checking my bank account obsessively for days thinking the system was broken. What's even more frustrating is that the PA UC portal shows "direct deposit" as an option during setup but then quietly defaults to the debit card anyway. One tip that helped me: once you get the Money Network card and activate it, you can actually expedite future payments by calling them and requesting express delivery for replacement cards if yours ever gets lost or damaged. Regular delivery is free but express costs like $15 - might be worth it if you're in a tight spot financially. Also, make sure to save the Money Network customer service number (1-888-659-9085) in your phone. Their hold times are way shorter than trying to reach PA UC directly, and they can at least tell you when payments hit the card and help with transfers to your bank.

This is such helpful info! I had no idea you could get express delivery on replacement cards. That customer service number is gold too - definitely saving that. It's crazy how much easier this whole process would be if PA just communicated these basic details upfront. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now! My payment showed up in the portal on Friday with a transaction number, but nothing in my bank account. Reading through all these comments has been a huge relief - I had no idea about the automatic debit card for first payments. Just checked my email and spam folders but haven't found anything from Money Network yet. Question for those who've been through this: if the payment date in the portal was Friday, should I expect the Money Network email to come this week? Also, does the card get sent to the same address you used when filing your claim? We moved recently and I'm worried it might go to our old place. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this forum is literally the only place I've found clear answers about how PA UC actually works!
