PA UC payment delayed this week - Thursday check didn't arrive as usual

Has anyone else noticed their PA UC payment is late this week? I normally get my unemployment check in the mail every Thursday like clockwork, but nothing showed up today. Even weirder, it's not showing up on USPS Informed Delivery for tomorrow either. This is stressing me out because I have bills due next week! Is there some kind of system delay happening? Anyone else experiencing this or know if there's a holiday or something affecting payments?

There was a processing delay announced on the PA UC system this week. I got an email about it on Monday saying that due to quarterly system maintenance, some payments might be delayed by 1-2 business days. I'd give it until Monday before worrying too much. My direct deposit was only delayed by one day.

Thanks for letting me know! I didn't get any email about maintenance... wonder why? Should I be signed up for alerts somewhere? I rely on these checks to pay my bills on time.

The delay is affecting both direct deposit and paper checks. If you filed on time and your claim is in good standing, you should still receive your payment. The UC system does these maintenance periods quarterly - the next one is scheduled for September.

THE SYSTEM IS ALWAYS "UNDER MAINTENANCE" WHEN IT'S CONVENIENT FOR THEM!!! This happens EVERY FEW MONTHS and they NEVER warn everyone properly. I'm also waiting on my check and have rent due Monday. They expect us to plan ahead but can't even send payments on time themselves!!!

I hear ya! Last time this happened I had to call like 45 times to even get through to someone. They just told me to wait. Super helpful 🙄

My sister works for the treasury department and said there was some kind of glitch with the check printing system this week too, not just regular maintenance. Something about the address verification system being down for part of the week.

This is why I switched to direct deposit after 6 months of dealing with mail delays. The Money Network card option is actually pretty good too - at least you can see when the funds are loaded through the app even if there are delays.

For anyone having trouble reaching PA UC about this issue, I recently used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes after trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent confirmed there's a processing delay affecting paper checks more than direct deposits this week, but all payments should be processed by Monday.

Does this actually work? Last time I called I was on hold for 3 hours and then got disconnected!

This happens at least once every quarter. You can check your claim status online through the PA UC portal to see if your payment was at least processed. Go to benefits.uc.pa.gov and look under "Payment History" - it will show if the payment was issued even if it hasn't arrived yet. If it shows as "processed" or "issued" then it's just slow mail, not a claim problem.

I just checked and it does show as "issued" on Tuesday, so I guess it's just moving slowly through the mail system. Thanks for the tip about checking that - makes me feel better knowing the payment at least exists!

Just as an update - if your payment was already processed (showed as issued in the system), you should definitely receive it by Monday or Tuesday at latest. If it doesn't arrive by then, you'll need to call UC to request a replacement check, but they typically won't start that process until 10 business days have passed. Make sure you're also keeping up with your weekly claims during the wait!

That's really helpful info, thank you! I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims. I have a job interview on Tuesday too, so hopefully I won't need to deal with this much longer!
