PA UC examiner wait time after being added to priority list - anyone have experience?

I've been stuck in limbo with my unemployment claim for over 7 weeks now. Every time I called (when I could actually get through), they just said I needed to wait for an examiner to review my case. Yesterday, I finally got someone who told me they've 'added me to a priority list to be seen by an examiner' but wouldn't give me any timeframe for when that might happen. Has anyone else been through this 'priority list' situation? How long did you end up waiting after being told this? I'm getting desperate as my savings are almost gone and my landlord is getting impatient about rent.

3 more weeks? I can't wait that long! Did they call you or email when they finally reached out?

When I dealt with this last year, I was told I was on the 'priority list' and waited about 10 days before an examiner called me. The key is to make sure your contact information is 100% up-to-date in the system. Many people miss their calls because examiners often call from blocked or unknown numbers. Also, check your spam/junk folders daily for emails from PA UC. If you miss their call, it can add weeks to your wait time as they move on to other claims.

Thanks for the tip about blocked numbers! I've been ignoring those calls thinking they were spam. I'll start answering everything now.

This is great advice. I missed my examiner's call twice and ended up waiting an extra month before they tried again. It was horrible.

I WAS ON THAT SO-CALLED "PRIORITY LIST" FOR 5 WEEKS!!!! The system is completely broken! They just tell you that to get you off the phone! I had to contact my state representative's office to finally get someone to look at my claim. Don't believe anything they tell you about timeframes or "lists" - it's all garbage designed to keep us quiet while they ignore our claims!!!!

While I understand your frustration, reaching out to your state representative is actually solid advice. Their offices often have dedicated contacts at PA UC who can expedite claims that have been delayed. I'd recommend everyone facing extended delays consider this option.

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to an actual PA UC agent? I was stuck in a similar situation last month and couldn't get answers about my priority status. I used their service (claimyr.com) and got connected to a PA UC rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent I spoke with was able to give me a more specific timeframe and actually escalated my case while I was on the phone. Worth trying instead of just waiting indefinitely.

I hadn't heard of this before. Does it actually work? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

It worked for me. Got through to someone who could see exactly where my claim was in the system and what was holding it up. Definitely better than the generic answers I was getting before.

in my experience those priority lists dont mean much tbh. my buddy got a call 2 days after being put on one but i waited almost 6 weeks and had to keep calling. think it just depends who u get and how backed up things are that month

This is correct - the timeline varies significantly based on claim type, complexity, and current workload. Regular UC claims often move faster than claims with special circumstances like severance pay, pension offsets, or employer protests.

The term "priority list" is somewhat misleading. What typically happens is your claim gets flagged for review by an examiner, but there are different priority levels within that system. Claims with simple issues might be resolved in 1-2 weeks, while more complex cases (especially those requiring employer input) can take 4-6 weeks or longer. A few tips that might help: 1. Continue filing your weekly certifications even while waiting 2. Check your dashboard and correspondence folder daily for updates 3. Make sure you've uploaded all requested documentation 4. If you reach the 8-week mark with no contact, consider reaching out to your state representative's office for assistance Also, note that some examiners are now working through the messaging system rather than calling, so keep an eye on your PA UC dashboard messages.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I didn't realize there were different levels within the priority system. I'll keep filing weekly and watch my dashboard more closely. I'm approaching that 8-week mark, so I might contact my state rep next week if I don't hear anything.

Update: I took several of your suggestions and finally got some movement! I started answering all calls (even blocked numbers) and yesterday an examiner called me. They needed some additional information about my separation from my employer. The examiner said they should be able to make a determination within 5-7 business days. Thanks for all the advice - especially about the blocked numbers!

Great news! Be sure to check your dashboard daily as determinations are often posted there before payment processing begins. If approved, payments typically start within 2-3 business days after the determination is posted.

This is why answering unknown numbers is so crucial during this process! Glad it worked out for you.
