PA UC determination timeline after supervisor escalation through state representative?

Hi everyone, I've been stuck in limbo with my unemployment claim for almost 6 weeks now. After getting nowhere with regular calls, I finally contacted my state representative last Thursday. They must have pulled some strings because I got a call from UC today saying my case is being sent to a supervisor for review. The lady couldn't tell me how long it might take for an actual determination though. Has anyone gone through this state rep escalation process before? How long did it take you to get a determination after your case was sent to a supervisor? I'm down to my last $200 and getting really anxious about how much longer this will drag on.

I had almost the exact same situation in January. After my state rep got involved, it took about 8 business days from the supervisor escalation to getting my determination letter. The UC agent called me on a Tuesday saying it was going to a supervisor, and the following Friday I could see that my payment was processed in the system. The actual determination letter came in the mail the next Monday. Hang in there - once it hits supervisor level things usually move pretty quickly.

Thank you so much! 8 days sounds manageable compared to the 6 weeks I've already waited. Did they process all your back weeks at once when they finally approved it?

state reps dont actually do anything except send a email to the same people u can contact urself. its all about getting lucky with who reviews ur claim. took me 3 MONTHS even with my rep 'helping' me

This isn't accurate. State representatives have dedicated liaison contacts at unemployment offices who can flag claims for priority review. The regular contact methods available to claimants don't have access to these same escalation pathways. While results vary, legislative escalations do typically move claims forward faster than regular inquiries.

I was in this exact position back in February! The whole process was SO frustrating. After my state rep got involved and my case went to a supervisor, I waited... and waited... and waited some more. THREE WEEKS went by with nothing!! I called every day but kept getting the runaround that "it's with a supervisor" and "there's nothing we can do but wait." Finally, I broke down and used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually get through to a live person without the busy signals and hours on hold. The agent I spoke with was able to see that my file had been assigned to a specific supervisor but was sitting in their queue. They flagged it as urgent and I got my determination just 2 days later! You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Seriously saved my sanity.

does that claimyr thing really work? i've tried calling like 30 times today and can't get through

Yeah it actually does work. I was skeptical too but I was desperate. Got through to someone in like 15 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks on my own.

When mine was escalated to a supervisor last year it took almost a month to get resolved and that was WITH my state rep's help. The problem is there's a huge backlog of cases and not enough supervisors. It really depends on what type of issue they're reviewing too. What's your open issue about? If it's identity verification that usually goes faster than eligibility questions or employer disputes.

It's an employer dispute. My company is claiming I quit but I was definitely laid off when they downsized my department. I submitted all the documentation I had, including emails about the layoff, but it's still sitting there unresolved. Sounds like I might be waiting a while longer then...

That's really encouraging to hear! I'm owed about $3800 in back payments at this point. Fingers crossed mine goes through as quickly as yours did!

Just to provide some context on how the supervisor review process works: When a claim gets flagged by a state representative's office, it gets marked as a legislative inquiry which does move it into a priority queue. However, there are multiple levels of priority, and multiple supervisors handling different types of issues. The timeline generally works like this: 1. Initial supervisor review: 3-5 business days 2. If they need additional information: Add 5-7 more days 3. If there's an employer dispute involved (like in your case): Add 7-10 more days while they contact the employer Since you mentioned it's an employer dispute, I'd estimate you're looking at 15-20 business days total from the supervisor escalation to determination. This is assuming the employer responds promptly. If you don't receive any updates by day 10, I would recommend contacting the state rep's office again and asking them to follow up. They can check the status without you having to get through the main UC phone lines.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown. It's helpful to understand the process. My employer has been difficult throughout this whole situation, so I wouldn't be surprised if they delay responding. I'll follow up with my state rep after 10 days as you suggested.

mine took 6 days from spervisor to determination but then another 2 weeks before money actually hit my account so dont get 2 excited when u get approved

Same! The approval is just the first step. Then you have to deal with the payment processing delays. The Money Network card is the worst.

just curious, which state rep did u contact? i'm in allegheny county and wondering who to call

You need to contact the specific representative for your district, not just any state rep. You can find yours by entering your address here: https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/

One thing to keep in mind: while your claim is under supervisor review, make sure you're still filing your weekly claims! A lot of people make the mistake of stopping their weekly certifications while waiting for a determination, but you need to keep filing to get all your back weeks once approved.

Yes, I've been faithfully filing every week even though it's depressing to keep seeing 'benefits exhausted' and $0 on my payment summary. Hopefully it will be worth it when they finally process everything.

this is why the whole system is a joke. u literally need to get politicians involved just to get what ur owed. such a broken process.

While the system definitely has flaws, using your state representative is actually part of how the system is designed to work. They're supposed to help constituents navigate government services - that's literally part of their job.
