PA UC appeal decision 'reversed' - did I win? When will payment arrive?
Got my appeal hearing results yesterday for my PA unemployment claim and the letter says the original decision was 'reversed' - I THINK that means I won but this whole process has been so confusing I'm second-guessing everything! This is my first time dealing with an appeal. I was disqualified initially because my employer claimed I quit (I didn't - they eliminated my position then offered me something completely different with a 30% pay cut). If the decision was reversed in my favor, does anyone know how long before I'll actually see payments? My account still shows $0 and I've got bills piling up. It's been almost 3 months since I first filed!

•Thank you!! That's such a relief to hear. The way the letter was worded was so confusing, I wasn't 100% sure. I'll keep checking my dashboard - fingers crossed it updates soon!

Yes, 'reversed' means the initial determination was overturned in your favor. Congratulations! The payment timeline varies, but typically you should see your UC account update within 3-5 business days, and payments should begin processing within 7-14 days after the decision. Make sure all your weekly claims have been properly filed during the waiting period, as those will now be processed retroactively. If you don't see any updates to your account status or payment information after 7 business days, you may need to contact the UC service center.

•is that true even if u missed filing for some weeks while waiting for the appeal? i missed 2 weeks bcuz i was so stressed about the whole thing

•Good question! For weeks you didn't file, you'll need to request those weeks through the UC service center. They can backdate weekly certifications for weeks missed during the appeal process, but you must specifically request this. Do it as soon as possible as there are time limits for backdating.

CONGRATS on winning but DON'T CELEBRATE YET!!! The system is BROKEN and even after winning sometimes they STILL dont pay you right away!! I won my appeal in March and still had to call them 4 TIMES before the money actually showed up!!! They kept saying it was "in processing" for WEEKS!!! Make sure you call them if NOTHING happens in a week!!!

•That's exactly what I'm worried about! Did they give you any explanation for why it took so long? I've already gone through my emergency savings waiting for this appeal.

I've been through this exact situation last year. "Reversed" definitely means you won your appeal! When my decision was reversed, I had to wait about 8 business days before seeing any changes in my account. The system will release all your back payments at once, so you'll likely get a significant sum if you've been filing your weekly claims consistently throughout the appeal process. One thing to be aware of - they withhold taxes if you selected that option when you first applied. So don't be surprised if the amount is about 10% less than you calculated. Also, make sure you keep filing your weekly claims while waiting for payment to process!

•Thank you so much for the detailed info! I've definitely been filing every week religiously, even when it felt pointless. And yes, I did choose to have taxes withheld. I'm calculating about $7,200 in back benefits at this point - it will be such a relief when it finally comes through.

If you're having trouble reaching a PA UC representative to confirm when your payment will be processed, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation after winning my appeal and couldn't get through for days. Used their service and got connected to a UC agent in about 15 minutes who processed my payment right away. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Saved me weeks of waiting!

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? I've been calling the UC number for weeks and either get busy signals or wait for hours only to get disconnected.

•Yes, it actually works. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 3 days straight to get through. They connect you through their system so you bypass the busy signals. The UC rep I spoke with was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my claim and manually released my payment.

my cousin had same thing last month and he got paid like 9 days after the letter came but his employer filed another appeal or something after that? make sure ur employer doesn't try to fight it again, i think they can do that

•Oh no, I hadn't even thought about that possibility! The letter doesn't mention anything about my employer appealing further. Is there a way to check if they've filed another appeal?

•Your employer has 15 days to appeal the referee's decision to the UC Board of Review. If they do this, you'll receive written notification. You can also call the UC service center to check if any further appeals have been filed, but typically no news is good news in this case.

just wondering wat was ur hearing like??? i have mine next week and im so nervous. was the judge nice? did ur employer show up?

•My hearing was over the phone and lasted about 40 minutes. The referee (not actually a judge) was very professional but not particularly warm. Stick to facts and don't ramble - I prepared notes ahead of time which really helped. My employer did participate and had their HR person there. They asked questions about why I didn't take the new position they offered. Be prepared to explain everything clearly!

Just to add to what others have said - make sure to check your "Payment Status" page on the PA UC portal, not just your dashboard. Sometimes the main dashboard doesn't update right away but the payment status page will show pending payments. Also, when you do get paid, you might receive multiple deposits on the same day for each back week they owe you, rather than one lump sum.

UPDATE: My account just updated! It's showing all my back weeks as "Payable" now instead of "Disqualified" - thank you everyone for your help and advice! The payment hasn't hit my Money Network card yet, but at least I can see progress in the system. Such a relief!

•GOOD! Keep an eye on it though! Sometimes it can still take another week to actually HIT your card even after it shows payable!

That's fantastic news that your account updated to "Payable"! I went through this same process about 6 months ago and once it shows "Payable" the money usually hits within 2-3 business days. Since you mentioned it's been 3 months since you first filed, that back payment is going to be a huge relief when it comes through. Just a heads up - when I got mine, it came as separate deposits for each week rather than one big lump sum, so don't panic if you see multiple transactions. The whole appeals process is so stressful but you made it through the hardest part. Congratulations on your win!

Congrats on winning your appeal! "Reversed" definitely means you won. I had a similar situation last year where my employer tried to claim I quit when they actually laid me off. After my decision was reversed, it took about 6 business days for my account to update to "Payable" status and then another 3 days for the money to actually hit my ReliaCard. Since you've been filing weekly claims throughout the process, you should get all that back pay in one go. Keep checking your payment status page daily - that updates faster than the main dashboard. The waiting is torture but you're almost there!

•Thank you so much! It's such a relief to hear from people who've been through the exact same thing. The whole process has been incredibly stressful, especially when you're dealing with bills piling up and not knowing if you'll ever see that money. I'm definitely going to keep checking the payment status page daily like you suggested - I didn't even know that updated faster than the main dashboard! Fingers crossed the actual payments come through soon. This community has been a lifesaver through all of this.

Congratulations on winning your appeal! Yes, "reversed" absolutely means you won - the original disqualification decision has been overturned in your favor. I went through this exact same situation about 8 months ago (employer claimed I quit when they actually eliminated my position). Once my decision was reversed, it took about 5 business days for my account to show "Payable" status and then another 4 days for the money to actually deposit. Since you mentioned you've been filing weekly claims throughout the 3-month period, you should receive all that back pay once it processes. Make sure to keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the payments to hit your account. The relief when that money finally comes through after months of stress is incredible - you're so close to the finish line!

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation with an employer falsely claiming you quit. 8 months ago puts you right around when I first started this whole nightmare process. I've definitely been religious about filing my weekly claims even when it felt pointless - glad to hear that was the right move. The stress of not knowing if you'll ever see that money while bills keep coming is just overwhelming. Can't wait for that relief you mentioned! Did you have any issues with your employer trying to appeal the decision further, or was that the end of it once you won?

Amazing that your account updated so quickly! That's a great sign. When I won my appeal last summer, it took about 4 days from seeing "Payable" status to actually getting the money on my ReliaCard. One thing I learned - the payments might come through at weird times, like mine hit at 3am on a Wednesday. So don't panic if it doesn't show up during normal business hours. Also, double-check that your direct deposit or card info is still current in your profile. After 3 months of waiting, you're literally days away from getting paid. The hardest part is behind you now!

•That's really helpful to know about the timing! I never would have thought to check at 3am - I've been obsessively refreshing during normal hours. Good point about double-checking my card info too, I should probably verify that hasn't expired or anything after all this time. It's crazy how this whole process teaches you things you never wanted to know about unemployment systems! Thanks for the reassurance that I'm almost at the finish line.

Congratulations on getting your decision reversed! That's huge! I just went through something similar a few months back where my employer also falsely claimed I quit when they really just eliminated my position. The waiting after winning the appeal is brutal but you're so close now. Since your account already updated to "Payable" status, you should see the actual money within the next few days. When mine finally hit, it was such an incredible relief after months of stress and financial strain. One tip - screenshot your "Payable" status just in case there are any system glitches later. You've been through the worst of it and deserve every penny of that back pay coming your way!

•Thank you so much! Yes, it's been such an emotional rollercoaster these past few months. Great idea about screenshotting the "Payable" status - I actually just did that after reading your comment! It's wild how similar our situations are with employers falsely claiming we quit. I'm definitely learning that this happens way more often than I ever realized. The financial stress has been unreal, so hearing from people like you who made it through gives me so much hope. Can't wait to finally close this chapter and move forward!

Congrats on winning your appeal! "Reversed" definitely means you won - I went through this exact same thing about 4 months ago when my employer tried to claim I voluntarily quit after they restructured my department and offered me a completely different role with way less pay. It's such a relief when you finally get that decision letter! Since your account is already showing "Payable" status, you should see the money hit your card within 2-4 business days. Mine took exactly 3 business days after the status changed. One thing that helped me was setting up account alerts so I'd get notified immediately when deposits hit instead of constantly checking. After 3 months of waiting and stressing about bills, you're literally at the finish line now. That back pay is going to feel amazing when it finally comes through!

•Thank you so much! It's incredible how many people have gone through almost identical situations with employers falsely claiming we quit. Setting up account alerts is such a smart idea - I've been driving myself crazy refreshing the page every few hours! I'm definitely going to do that right now. After all this stress and uncertainty, it's hard to believe I'm actually this close to getting paid. This whole experience has been such a learning curve about how the UC system works (and sometimes doesn't work). Really appreciate you taking the time to share your timeline - knowing it was exactly 3 days for you gives me something concrete to expect!

That's fantastic news about your account updating to "Payable" status! I went through this same situation about 5 months ago when my employer falsely claimed I quit after they eliminated my position. Once my status changed to "Payable," it took exactly 4 business days for the money to hit my ReliaCard. Since you've been filing weekly claims throughout the entire 3-month process, that back pay is going to be substantial - and well-deserved after all the stress you've been through! One thing I learned is to check your account early in the morning (like 6-7am) because UC payments often process overnight. You're literally days away from getting that relief. Congratulations on persevering through such a difficult process!

•Thank you for sharing your experience and timeline! It's so helpful to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. I never thought to check early in the morning - that's a great tip about payments processing overnight! After 3 months of this nightmare, I'm honestly still in disbelief that I'm finally this close to getting paid. The stress of having bills pile up while waiting for the appeal was just incredible. Knowing it took exactly 4 days for you gives me a concrete timeline to expect. I'm definitely going to start checking at 6am instead of obsessively refreshing throughout the day!
