PA UC appeal confusion - I won my appeal but what happens now?

Hi everyone, I'm in a weird situation. I got disqualified from PA unemployment last month for supposedly not being available for work (which wasn't true). I filed an appeal right away and just got the decision letter yesterday saying I WON my appeal! The referee ruled in my favor and overturned the determination. But now I'm confused... what happens next? Do I automatically get backpay for the weeks I missed? Do I need to contact someone? The letter doesn't explain next steps at all! Has anyone won an appeal before and can tell me what to expect now? I'm worried because I still can't access my claim online.

Congrats on winning your appeal! Here's what happens next: The system should automatically update within 7-10 business days to reflect the referee's decision. You don't need to do anything special to trigger your backpay - it should process automatically once your claim status updates in the system. However, you should continue filing your weekly claims during this period if you haven't been. If you don't see any updates after 10 business days, then you should contact them.

Thank you! That's a relief. I have been filing my weekly claims even though I wasn't getting paid. So I just need to be patient for another week or so? The waiting is killing me since I'm behind on bills.

That's good to know! Did your online account update before you got paid or did the money just show up on your Money Network card?

DONT ASSUME ANYTHING WITH PA UC!!! I won my appeal in January and had to call EVERY SINGLE DAY for THREE WEEKS before they released my payments!!! The system is BROKEN and they will make you wait forever if you don't stay on top of them!!!! Their "automatic" process is a JOKE!!!!!

While it's true some claims need extra attention after appeals, most do process automatically within 2 weeks. But you're right that following up if nothing happens is important. The system isn't perfect.

I had the same exact scenario back in February - won my appeal for availability issues. The payments started processing about 8 days after the decision letter. BUT, there's one important thing you need to know: if any of those weeks had "other issues" besides the one that was appealed, those weeks might still be held up. Check your payment history to see if any weeks show other issues. If they do, you might need to contact them about those specific weeks.

That's really helpful! I just checked and you're right - 2 of my weeks show "other issues" whatever that means. I guess I'll need to call about those specifically.

My brother had the same thing happen! Make sure you print out that appeal decision and keep it safe. They somehow "lost" his appeal decision in their system and tried to say he still owed them money six months later! Having the paperwork saved him a huge headache!

If you're having trouble getting through to PA UC about those weeks with "other issues," I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation after winning my appeal and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Claimyr got me connected to an actual UC rep in about 30 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Their website is claimyr.com - it was totally worth it to get my backpay sorted out quickly.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a few more days to process automatically, but if I'm still having issues next week I'll definitely check that out. At this point I just want to talk to an actual person who can explain what's happening with my claim.

Make sure you also check that the amount they're calculating is correct when it does come through. My appeal was approved last year but they miscalculated my back weeks and shorted me about $430. Had to file a separate appeal just for that issue!

One more thing - make sure your payment method is set up correctly in the system. If you've never received a payment before, you'll need to verify that your Money Network card information is properly linked to your claim. Sometimes after appeals, this connection needs to be refreshed in their system. You can check this under the payment information section of your online account.

That's a great point - I've never actually received a payment yet since I was denied from the beginning. I do have the Money Network card they sent me though. I'll double check all that information is correct in my account. Thank you!
