What does 'reversed' decision status mean after my ESD appeal hearing?
I had my OAH hearing with a judge last Thursday for my denied unemployment benefits, and today I checked my account and it shows the decision status as 'reversed' but nothing else changed. I don't see any new documents, payments, or updates on my weekly claims. Does anyone know what 'reversed' actually means? Did I win my appeal? How long until I get my benefits if the decision was reversed in my favor? So confused and desperately need these benefits to pay rent next month.

Reversed means the judge overturned ESD's original decision! Congrats, you won your appeal! But don't celebrate yet cuz now ESD has to process this reversal and it can take 2-3 weeks to actually get paid. The system is sooooo slow updating after hearings.

•OMG really?? That's such a relief! Why don't they make this clearer? And did you also have to wait 2-3 weeks after your decision was reversed? I'm down to my last $200 and rent is due soon...

Congratulations! A 'reversed' status means the judge has overturned ESD's initial determination. This is good news, as it means the Administrative Law Judge disagreed with ESD's original denial. Here's what typically happens next: 1. OAH sends the reversed decision to ESD for implementation 2. ESD has to recalculate your benefits based on the judge's order 3. Your account will be updated with any retroactive payments you're entitled to 4. You should receive a formal written decision in your eServices inbox or by mail This process can take 10-15 business days, sometimes longer if there are complications with your specific claim. Keep filing your weekly claims during this period if you're still unemployed.

•Thank you for such a detailed explanation! Is there any way to speed up this process? I've already been waiting 5 months since my initial denial and I'm literally about to be evicted if I don't get these backpay benefits soon.

•5 WEEKS?? That's insane! I can't wait that long. Did calling them help speed anything up?

My cousin had this happen last year. Reversed means you won, but ESD still has to process it. They're notoriously slow after hearings. My cousin said it took about 3 weeks before he actually saw money in his account. Really stressful when you're counting on that money! Keep filing your weekly claims in the meantime.

•Not always true actually. Reversed can sometimes mean they're sending it back for further review, not necessarily that you won. I had a 'reversed' status once but it turned out they needed more documentation and I had to go through another hearing. The system is super confusing and inconsistent.

•I used Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent after my hearing decision was reversed. Normally it's impossible to reach someone, but Claimyr connected me to an agent in about 40 minutes. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my payment would be processed and what documents I needed to look out for. It cost me a fee but was worth it for the peace of mind. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 if you're interested in how it works. The website is claimyr.com.

•Not stupid at all! I was denied because my former employer claimed I quit, but I was actually laid off. They tried to get me to sign a "voluntary resignation" but I refused. ESD initially sided with them, but I had text messages proving what really happened. Definitely appeal if you think you're in the right - the judges seem fairer than ESD.

Just to clarify something important: 'Reversed' specifically means the judge disagreed with ESD's determination and ruled in your favor. This is different from 'Remanded,' which means the judge is sending it back to ESD for further review or reconsideration without making a final decision. So 'Reversed' is indeed good news. However, the implementation timing varies greatly depending on your specific case and current ESD workloads. After your decision is implemented: 1. You'll receive a Notice of Redetermination documenting the change 2. Your eServices account will update to show eligible weeks 3. Payment will process for any back benefits If it's been more than 15 business days, I would recommend contacting ESD to check on status.

•Yeah not always that easy to "contact ESD" lol. I've been trying for 3 weeks and never get through. they just put you on hold forever and then disconnect you

UPDATE: I used Claimyr and finally got through to an ESD agent! They confirmed my appeal was approved and that my benefits are being processed. Should receive back pay for all 13 weeks by next Friday! Such a relief. For anyone else dealing with this, the agent said after an appeal reversal they have up to 30 days to process payment, but average is 2-3 weeks. Thanks everyone for your help!

That's amazing news about getting your back pay! I'm dealing with a similar situation - my hearing was last week and I just saw "reversed" on my account too. Reading through all these comments really helped me understand what to expect. It's so frustrating that ESD doesn't explain these statuses clearly anywhere. I'm definitely going to keep filing my weekly claims like everyone suggested. Fingers crossed mine processes faster than 5 weeks!

•Hope yours goes smoothly too! One thing I learned is to screenshot everything in your eServices account - the status changes, dates, everything. The agent I talked to through Claimyr said having those details helps them track your case faster when you do get through to someone. Also keep an eye out for that Notice of Redetermination document - apparently that's when you know it's really official and processing has started. Good luck with your case!

A "reversed" decision is definitely good news - it means the Administrative Law Judge ruled in your favor and overturned ESD's original denial! However, the waiting game isn't over yet unfortunately. From what I've experienced and seen in this community, it typically takes 2-4 weeks for ESD to actually implement the judge's decision and start processing your payments. The most important thing right now is to keep filing your weekly claims during this waiting period - if you don't file for those weeks, you won't get paid for them even though you won your appeal. I know it's incredibly stressful when you're counting on that money, but hang in there! You've cleared the biggest hurdle by winning your hearing.

•This is such helpful advice! I'm new here and going through something similar - just had my hearing yesterday and anxiously waiting to see what happens. It's really reassuring to read everyone's experiences and know that "reversed" means good news. The tip about continuing to file weekly claims is super important - I almost missed filing this week thinking I should wait for the decision to be processed first. Thank you for explaining the timeline too, helps set realistic expectations even though the waiting is torture when you need the money!
