PA UC RESEA requirement confusion - 87% complete but in-person meeting still needed?

So I just got selected for this RESEA program with PA unemployment (ugh, of course right when my payments started flowing). The online portal says I've completed 87% of my obligations after registering, but I still have an in-person meeting scheduled for August 2nd. Does anyone know if I'm good until then? Will completing this meeting finish all my RESEA requirements? The website is super vague and I'm worried about messing something up and losing my benefits. Only received 2 payments so far and now dealing with this extra hoop to jump through. 😩

Yes, you should be fine until your scheduled meeting. The 87% completion means you've done all the pre-meeting requirements like registering with PA CareerLink and completing the assessment questionnaires. The in-person meeting is the final component that will get you to 100%. Make sure to bring your resume and work search records to the meeting - they WILL check these. After completing the meeting, your RESEA obligations will be fulfilled, but you'll still need to continue regular weekly claims and work search activities.

Thank you!! That's such a relief. Do they actually look at your job search records in detail or just verify you have them? I've been applying to jobs but haven't been super organized about keeping detailed records 😬

RESEA is such a waste of time! They just want to make sure you're not committing fraud. I had to do this last year and it was an hour of them telling me things I already knew about job searching. Just show up with your work search records and you'll be fine.

I got chosen for RESEA back in March. Don't stress about it too much! Just make sure you actually GO to the meeting. My neighbor missed hers and they stopped her benefits for like 6 weeks while she appealed. As long as you show up with whatever paperwork they told you to bring (I think it was just my ID and work search records), you'll be fine until then. The 87% just means you did the online part right.

Omg 6 weeks without benefits sounds terrible! I'll definitely be there. Did they tell your neighbor ahead of time that missing would stop her benefits?

They send some generic warning in the RESEA letter saying failure to participate may result in loss of benefits, but they don't make it super clear HOW BAD it can be! She thought she could just reschedule but nope - they marked her as non-compliant right away!

I went through RESEA last month. Here's exactly what to expect: 1. Bring printed copies of your work search records - at least 6 job applications (3 weeks worth) 2. Have a current resume - they'll review it and suggest improvements 3. Be prepared to discuss your job search strategy 4. The meeting takes about 45-60 minutes 5. They'll mark you complete in the system immediately after The 87% is normal at your stage. And yes, once you complete the meeting, you're done with RESEA requirements (though regular UC work search continues). One tip: if you're having trouble getting through to someone at PA UC with questions (which is common), I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that connected me to an actual agent within minutes instead of dealing with busy signals. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. It was helpful when I had questions about my RESEA requirements.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! That's really helpful. I've been trying to call them with some questions but keep getting the busy signal, so I'll check out that Claimyr thing. Do they really go through all 6 job applications in detail?

They didn't go through all my applications in super detail, but they did randomly check 2-3 to verify they were legitimate. They mainly want to see that you're making consistent efforts each week. And yeah, the phone situation with PA UC is frustrating - Claimyr saved me hours of redial attempts.

Am I the only one who thinks its RIDICULOUS that we have to do all this extra stuff just to get the benefits we EARNED?!? I got picked for RESEA last year and it was such a waste of time!!! The CareerLink people barely knew what they were doing and gave me a bunch of useless job leads that didn't even match my skills!!! Then they had the nerve to critique my resume that I paid a professional to write!!! 🤬🤬🤬

preach!! its like they think were all trying to cheat the system or something. i worked for 7 years straight before getting laid off!!

Actually, studies show that RESEA programs help people return to work about 1-3 weeks faster on average. The program is designed to provide early intervention and career guidance. While it may feel burdensome, the intention is to help claimants reconnect with employment more quickly. Pennsylvania's implementation certainly has room for improvement, but the concept itself has proven effective in many states.

Has anyone done the RESEA meeting at the Downtown Pittsburgh CareerLink? Wondering if that location is better than the ones in the suburbs. I heard some locations are way more strict than others about the work search records.

I did mine at the downtown office in March. The staff was actually pretty chill compared to what I expected. They glanced at my work search stuff but didn't like interrogate me about it. The workshop part was boring though.

My meeting is at the Allentown office, I wonder if they're all different or follow the same procedures. Hoping mine goes smoothly!

Just to add some clarification about the 87% completion: - The remaining 13% is specifically the in-person meeting - Until your meeting date, your benefits will continue normally - At the meeting, they'll review your work search records (minimum 6 applications, 2 per week for 3 weeks) - They'll provide job search resources and review your resume - After completing the meeting, you'll immediately show as 100% compliant It's important to note that RESEA is a federal requirement that Pennsylvania must implement - it's not just PA UC creating extra hurdles. The program is designed to help claimants return to work faster and identify those who might need additional assistance. If you have specific questions before your meeting, make sure to have them written down to ask during your appointment.

Thank you! That's exactly what I needed to know. I was worried there might be something else I needed to do before the meeting that I was missing. I'll make sure to have all my work search records organized and bring extra copies of my resume.

anyone know what happens if u cant go to ur scheduled meeting? my boss just told me i have to work that day and cant take off

Call the RESEA unit IMMEDIATELY to reschedule. There's a number on your RESEA notification letter. If you can't reach them (which is common), you need to contact your assigned CareerLink office directly. Do NOT just miss the appointment without rescheduling - that can result in benefit disqualification. Make sure to document your attempts to reschedule in case there's any issue later.
