PA UC RESEA appointment scheduling issues - can't update address or access portal to avoid payment hold

I'm so stressed about this RESEA appointment situation with PA unemployment! I received a letter saying I need to attend a RESEA appointment by 7/16 (second notice - apparently missed the first one scheduled for 7/1). Problem is, they sent everything to my old address, and I can't update my address in the portal - it keeps erroring out! When I try to click the link in the email to schedule, it doesn't work either. I've filled out the RESEA form and sent it to the examiner along with evidence of my job applications, but I'm still locked out of scheduling the actual appointment. My payments are on hold until I complete this RESEA thing, and I really need that money. Is there a way to schedule by phone instead of through the broken portal? Also dealing with an appeal mess - my employer falsely claimed I resigned when I have email proof they terminated me while I was on FMLA. My attorney is handling that part, but does anyone know how long until I might get a hearing date for the appeal? Everything's a complete mess and I'm getting desperate.

You definitely need to get this RESEA situation resolved ASAP or your benefits will remain on hold. For the address update issue, try using a different browser or clearing your cache first. If that doesn't work, yes you CAN call to schedule your RESEA appointment. The direct RESEA scheduling number is 855-284-8545. Call as early as possible (7:30am) because they get swamped. Make sure to explain that you never received the original packet due to address issues. Regarding your appeal, hearings are typically scheduled 4-6 weeks after the appeal is filed, but it can take longer if the UC system is backed up. Since you have an attorney, they should receive notice of the hearing date via mail. Just make sure your attorney has your current address on file since it sounds like your UC profile has the wrong one.

Thank you SO MUCH for that phone number!! I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to schedule. I'll call first thing tomorrow morning. Do you think I'll still get in trouble for missing the first appointment even though I never got the notice? Still worried about that part.

This is what drives me NUTS about PA unemployment!!! They create these mandatory requirements but then make it IMPOSSIBLE to actually comply with them. I swear they do it on purpose to reduce the number of people who can successfully claim. My RESEA appointment was a complete waste of time too - they just went over basic job search stuff I was already doing.

I've been through the same address update nightmare with PA UC. Here's what worked for me: instead of trying to update it in the portal, call 888-313-7284 and follow the prompts to verify your identity (you'll need your SSN and PIN). Once verified, tell them you need to update your address AND schedule your RESEA appointment. However, getting through on that number is nearly impossible unless you have hours to waste on hold. I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that gets you through to an agent quickly. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. After trying to get through for days, I used their service and finally got my address updated and RESEA scheduled in one call. For your appeal situation, with an attorney involved and FMLA issues, hearings are taking about 8-10 weeks currently. Document everything and make sure your attorney has copies of that termination email!

This is so helpful, thank you! I'll check out that Claimyr thing because I've been trying that 888 number for days with no luck. Getting both the address AND the RESEA appointment handled in one call would be amazing. And thanks for the timeline on appeals - at least I know what to expect now.

My cousin works for UC and said they're super backed up with RESEA appointments right now. Just FYI.

This is accurate. I'm a career counselor who works with the PA CareerLink offices that handle RESEA appointments. The system is currently running about 3-4 weeks behind schedule due to staffing shortages. However, if you explain that your benefits are on hold and you never received the initial notice due to an address issue, they CAN expedite your appointment. Make sure to emphasize that you've been actively job searching and have records to prove it. They're much more accommodating when you can show you're following the rules.

anyone else think its super suspicious the employer is claiming resignation when they FIRED you during FMLA??!! thats literally illegal! they're prob trying to avoid paying unemployment by lying. good thing you have a lawyer!!

Yeah, it's definitely sketchy. My attorney says they're trying to avoid both unemployment charges AND a potential wrongful termination lawsuit related to the FMLA violation. Just makes the RESEA scheduling issue more stressful because I really need these benefits until the case is settled.

Regarding your RESEA situation: You need to explain to UC that you had a legitimate reason for missing the first appointment (never received notice due to address issues). When you get your RESEA appointment scheduled, bring documentation of ALL your job search activities since filing your claim. The RESEA interviewer will be looking for proof that you've been completing your work search requirements all along. Also, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while your payments are on hold! Many claimants stop filing when payments pause, but this is a mistake - you need continuous weekly claims on record to receive back payments once the RESEA issue is resolved. For the appeal hearing: Since your case involves FMLA (which is federally protected), the examiner will likely prioritize scheduling your hearing. Current timeframes are 4-8 weeks, but complex cases involving protected leave status may be expedited. Your attorney should request expedited scheduling based on the FMLA component.

wait we're supposed to keep filing even when payments stop??! shoot nobody told me that when my account got flagged for id verification last year!!! i missed like 3 weeks of claims thinking what's the point if im not getting paid 😭

The whole RESEA program is a JOKE!!! It's just a hoop they make us jump through so they can kick people off benefits. My appointment was USELESS - just went over basic job search techniques I already knew. The real kicker? My "career counselor" had ZERO knowledge about my industry (software development). How are they supposed to help people find jobs when they know NOTHING about our fields??? And don't get me started on the appeal process. They're deliberately slow-walking appeals hoping people will just give up. I waited TWELVE WEEKS for my hearing date, all while my landlord was threatening eviction. The system is BROKEN BY DESIGN.

While I understand your frustration, the RESEA program does actually help many claimants connect with resources they didn't know about. The quality of the experience depends a lot on which CareerLink office handles your appointment and which counselor you get assigned. Some are far more knowledgeable than others. Regarding appeal timelines - 12 weeks is unfortunately not unusual right now, especially for complex cases. The referee offices are severely understaffed since many people left during COVID and haven't been replaced.

UPDATE: I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone recommended! It actually worked - got me through to a real person at PA UC in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. The agent was super helpful and did everything in one call: updated my address, scheduled my RESEA appointment for next Tuesday, and noted in my file that I never received the original notice due to the address issue. She said my payments should resume after I complete the RESEA appointment. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help with this nightmare situation.

Great news! Make sure you bring all your job search documentation to the RESEA appointment - they'll want to see that you've been completing the required work search activities all along. And as I mentioned before, continue filing your weekly claims even while payments are on hold. Glad you got it sorted out!

So glad to see your update about getting through with Claimyr! I've been following your situation and was really worried about how stressed you were. That's exactly what I was hoping would happen - getting everything handled in one call is such a huge relief when you're dealing with this mess. Just a heads up for your RESEA appointment next Tuesday: bring printed copies of EVERYTHING. Job applications, emails from employers, your work search log, and definitely those emails proving your employer terminated you (not resigned). The counselors love documentation and it shows you've been taking the requirements seriously. Also, since your payments should resume after the appointment, make sure to keep filing those weekly claims like others mentioned. I learned that lesson the hard way during my own UC nightmare last year. Hope your attorney gets some movement on the appeal soon too. Employers lying about termination reasons when FMLA is involved usually backfires on them pretty badly once it gets to a hearing!

This is such great advice about bringing printed documentation! I hadn't thought about printing out those termination emails for the RESEA appointment, but you're absolutely right - showing them I have proof of the wrongful termination will probably help demonstrate I'm legitimately unemployed and not just trying to game the system. I'm actually feeling cautiously optimistic for the first time in weeks since getting this scheduled. Thanks for following my situation and for the encouragement!
